Compared to traditional eyeliner, this is GREAT. The brush gives you a nice, controlled line and the couloir is quite opaque. It lasts longer than your typical eyeliner, BUT doesn't last as long as some liquid liners out there. Overall it's a good "in-between" eyeliner

I am usually always on the lookout for a liner that will not add shimmer but give me a dramatic cat eye for my usally day to day look. And I was sick and tired of my liquid eyeliner that would get all over and have shimmer and crease halfway throught the day. When my friend suggested I try out this product I was like why not. My first over all idea of this product was the consistency. Gel is not something I have ever used before but i noticed that most if not all of my favorite youtube make up gurus were using it I decided to give it a try. it is a gel like consistency which does make it kind of difficult to use at first but what i love is that a little goes a long way and you can spread it very easily. The first time I used it I was horrified by the brus hthat came with the pakcage it becomes very stiff after just a few applications so washing this brush is mandatory as is with all makeup brushes. Another thing I love and hate about this product is the fact that it comes in a glass pot which makes scooping it out easy for application which is much easier than trying to use every drop of a liquid. Another thing is that this stuff does last. And it does require a little extra scrubbing when taking it off. my trick is baby shampoo. And way if anybody has anything else to say about this let me know..thanks

My biggest problem with the Maybelline "Blackest Black" Gel Liner is it's hardly even black. I'd say it's more of a charcoal color. Once you get halfway through it it tends to dry out like the other gel liners. I did not have any issues with it staying put. I have oily eyelids, but I always use Urban Decay Primer Potion. I wouldn't buy it again just because I seem to have gone longer with higher priced gel liners like MUFE and MAC and they look much blacker. Some things it's worth shelling out some extra money for.

Amazing product. Lovely and very creamy, highly pigmented, easy application, incredible lasting power. Just perfect. Having said that, don't bother with the eggplant shade, it is the exact opposite.

I used this to tightline and it smudged after an hour in 50 degree weather. I do have really oily eyelids though although I expected a lot more from this. A cheap pencil lasts longer when I tightline than this gel eyeliner. I did like the brush that came with it though and the product itself went on smoothly and easily. Really disappointed it didn't last long. I tried it a 2nd time and set with a black eyeshadow but it didn't help.

I love this product. For me, this IS very lasting and durable . I have tried Bobbi Brown's gel eyeliners and also have her brush to go with it and comparing the two for lasting power ....definitely the cheaper Maybelline wins . I do winged eyes with it very well .
I have worn this through 3 hours of very very sweaty workouts- the type of exercise where the sweat drips down your face and this gel eyeliner does not budge. I have also admittedly applied this the night before to save myself the trouble of doing my cat eye winged liner in the morning ( ahem .. ) and it has stayed put throughout the night.
The color is black enough for me , it goes on smoothly as well. 5 stars all the way for price point and function.
Tightlining - does very well too .
Bobbi Brown's gel eyeliners run after sweaty exercise but not this !

A makeup hint - apply your gel liner AFTER your eyeshadow or use a primer or powder .
Then after you apply your gel liner - especially if you do winged liner - get a very dark brown or black eyeshadow and dab some where you tightlined. This is will have your eyeliner to stay put forever till you remove it.

Pros:
Creamy, glides on like a dream
AWESOME packaging - hasn't dried out yet

Cons:
Moves around a lot and sometimes transfers onto crease because it doesn't really set
Not that black, let along the "blackest of black"
Fades throughout the day

Why I would NOT buy this product again:
I've worn this product for 2 months, and really tried to love it. But honestly, it sort of sucks. Maybe it's because I've used so many other better gel liners before (IE Inglot's & wet n' wild's gel liners). Maybelline's Eyestudio is less impressive. The only great quality about it is the super creamy formula. It doesn't tug on your skin and give that "skid mark" effect like other liners do when they're drying out. Neverthe less, that creamy consistency also is a con because it doesn't actually set. If it's a hot day when using this product, expect some transferring and smudging. If you accidentally rub your eye, expect yourself to reapply it. Last but not least, my biggest con is how gray it looks. I'm a dark skinned girl, so this charcoal black just doesn't cut it.

Even when I swatch it and leave it on my hand for a couple of minutes, this product just comes right off when I smudge-test it. Total disappointment.

HOWEVER, if I were to get some decent use out of this product (and I will after spending a good 10 bucks on this thing), I would use it as a black base for a smokey, dramatic look. I think this product would be amazing for that since it's so creamy, making it easy to blend.

And hey, I may intend to use this as a super black eyelid base just so I can use this up faster. I want to repurchase Wet n' Wild's gel liner and transfer it into the Maybelline Eyestudio liner packaging. continued >>

On the fence for this product. The packaging is neat, the brush that came with the eyeliner is fine, could have been more angled. Easy to apply on the eyelid (upper lash line), and good staying power. However for the waterline, this is not the eyeliner for the job. I bought this specifically for my water/tight line, and was disappointed. It looked good when first applied, but within 15 or 20 minutes it started to fade and smudge. It did smudge nicely, but still. It's a no-no for the waterline and tightline. One does have to remember that it is a drugstore eyeliner at a reasonable price.
