I am a big fan of Fake Bake products however this 'flawless' self tan is disappointing.
*It dries quicker than most fake tans.
*It has a lovely coconut/exotic smell which has a very faint tan smell and doesn't make me feel sick.
*Has a dark guide to make it easier to apply.
*Comes with a good mitt.
*It is very messy to apply, be careful where you spray it.
*If you get any tiny bit of water or sweat, it will absolutely ruin the tan.
*It rubs off quite easily onto clothes or pyjamas.
*It is very patchy considering I exfoliated & used their own brand of oil free moisturiser.
*Has a tendency to look orange in places, making the tan look
*It is expensive to purchase.
*It sinks into my pores, especially on my face and looks really bad.
Overall, an average fake tan that is very poor quality considering its name is 'flawless' I think their Beyond Bronze range or Original lotion is much better!
First of, I am pretty new in self-tanners, and after doing 2 months of researching self-tanners all through youtube and amazon, I decided to go with this one.
I am overly happy that I did, because this is exactly what I was looking for. A self-tanner that will last me a long time (this one last for up to 6 days), a natural looking tan, and I mean it! I don't want to look orange! So this one gives me a nice natural looking tan, at least as natural as possible. By the way, I am very pale and don't tan well, if I do, I'll be itchy for a week. Now I am on my 6th bottle of this and so addicted to self tanning with this stuff. It just gives me that golden tan which I never had before.
The way I apply it is as followed:
First I exfoliate my skin with 2 exfoliating gloves and an oil-free body wash.
Then I get out of the shower, dry myself, add some body lotion to elbows, knees, and knuckles. I let it absorb for about 10 minutes, and then I start with the tan.
On the instructions it tells you to spray this on the mitt that it comes with, now I spray it directly on my skin. That way the mitt won't absorb that much color, plus I find that the tan will be a little more intense, which I like. So I apply this all over my body, and when I'm done, I put on my house clothes and make sure not to drip any water on myself. SERIOUSLY and ATTENTION! DON'T BE AROUND WATER WHILE THE SELF TANNER IS APPLIED, AFTER WASHING IT OFF IN THE MORNING, GO AHEAD, BUT NOT WHILE IT IS WORKING. I am saying this because one time I got a drop of water on my arm, and then when I washed it off the next day, I had that little patch with the rest of my skin being tanned. Anyways, I fixed it with applying a dab of tanner on it, but still. When you self tan, make it right!
That's the way I do it, and I can tell you, I love my skin color so much more tanned than not tanned now, that I just can't stop it. Plus, I got lots of compliments on it.
Oh, and if you really want to go dark with it, do it on the next evening again, but on the next evening you don't have to exfoliate.
I love the tan, and my husband loves it on me too.
The only thing that I don't like, is the fact that you must be so careful with the water after first applying it, but, it is worth it, because after washing the color guide off, you will be fine and end up with a beautiful golden tan.
hated it, horrible smell, turnd me yellow - orange. i recommend ST TROPEZ DARK MUSSE
I'm definitely a big fan of Flawless!
The smell is really great and the tan it gives me is on the darker side, which I like.
There are really only 2 issues I have with this self tanner...
First, it's in the form of a liquid, which can make application a little messy (I usually prefer lotions).
Second, it's very sticky on the skin once it dries. I put self tanners on at night and it was kind of hard to sleep with this one on.
But, with the exception of those 2 things, I like everything else about this product.
Just a word of advice, sometimes you can get a great price on this self tanner on Amazon. I got my most recent bottle for half off.
Anyways, I'm not positive if I'm going to repurchase. I am on the hunt for the most perfect sunless tanner...& this isn't exactly it. Although FakeBake definitely has its perks. This product is a lot better than a lot of its competition on the market.
-NO NASTY SUNLESS TANNER SMELL. That is the first thing I noticed. FakeBake Flawless Self Tanner does have a strong scent. But rather than rotten eggs, this stuff smells like sweet coconut & plastic-y chocolate. I do not mind that at all.
-It has a layer of bronzer so you know where you're applying it. Thus, no streaks or blotches.
-DRIES INSTANTLY. I have never had a product dry so quickly. Some may hate that quality as you have to blend it in very quickly...but I appreciate it. There's no waiting around for 2 hours before putting on clothes like *some* sunless tanners out there.
-I applied this to my face & it didn't clog my pores, break me out, nor cause my face to be a tacky oily disaster. That earns big points in my book.
Now with all that being said, here is why I'm not in love with FakeBake...
-The color isn't natural looking. At first I was thrilled that it had a red undertone...until it dried & the bronzer was washed off. The sunless tanner itself is very orangey on me. :( I am extremely pale...maybe this would work best on someone darker.
-The orange tint that was left behind........lasted for less than 24 hours. I have never had a self tanner wash off so quickly. It is way too much maintenance for me to reapply this EVERYDAY.
I think this is a great self tanner, and certainly the easiest I've ever used when it comes to application. The mitt that comes with it is a nice touch (I usually buy mitts anyway). The color is natural looking, and the formula makes your skin feel so smooth and soft. Be sure to exfoliate thoroughly, as you should with all self tanners. It's not super dark, so if you wanted a deep tan you would have to apply a couple of nights in a row. I'm definitely going to buy the full size once my sample runs out.
I used to spend a ton of money on getting a spray tan every week and got to the point where I couldn't afford it anymore plus it was just a hassle. For less than what I was paying per week, I order a bottle of fakebake flawless from amazon which will last about 2-3 months. I usually only tan my upper body (face, chest and arms) unless I plan to be showing more skin. I apply this with the ELF powder brush for my chest and face and I use the mitt for my arms and hands and upper back. Spraying directly on your skin and then using the mitt/brush will definitely give a darker result.
Before finding this product I had tried lots of self tanners (Loreal, Clarins, St Tropez, Sun Labs, etc) and this is my favorite! I am naturally very pale and people think I am naturally tan! I haven't had any issues with fading except for my wrists which are tricky no matter what you're using, it always seems to be the sign that you're fake tanning.
I don't have one negative thing to say about this product, I am on my 5th bottle and am about to reorder again! Love it!
This is only about $13-$15 on amazon, buy it!
I've tried several different tanning products including St.Tropez, St.Moritz, Xen Tan and now Fake Bake. In terms of application, packaging and smell this product is the best so far, however it does not get you as dark as the other brands mentioned which is a shame.
I love how the packaging includes a mitt (and a nice one at that) because we all need one for application, and buying the st tropez ones over and over is getting expensive. It doesn't smell bad at all, it's a nice tropical scent and it applies evenly and dries fast (it didn't get all over my sheets like the other tanners have). But the darkness just isn't as good, maybe I need to layer this more, or build it up over time.
Smells amazing! I spray the product on my skin and instantly rub in in with the mit. Exfoliate before tanning! It dries quickly and can pretty much get right into bed afterward. It has a dark color guide, so you can see if it's blended in properly. It is not sticky, my boyfriend LOVES how my skin feels after using this. It is SO SOFT!!!!! major bonus!!!!! Love love love. I use it about once a week and keep my tan maintained with a product like jergens natural glow but I really want to try the Malibu Help golden glow moisturizer which is also a gradual tanner. I am a cosmetologist so I was able to buy the Fake Bake for cost at my local beauty supply. So happy I FINALLY found a self tanner that I love ;)
I am a huge self tanner I've tried tons of products low to high end. This is so far my favorite. I am not 100% satisfied with it because it does not last as long as it says, it lasts me two days so it is nice if you are using it for a special occasion. The colour is awesome , I have fair skin and it gives me a nice bronzed glow Instead of orange. The spray pump can be messy and hard to rub in before it dries because it does dry quickly. If I could get this in lotion form with longer lasting power I think I would be satisfied.
