easy to apply with finger
nice, flowery packaging (the cap broke tho...)
creates a film that rubs off upon application of concealer or foundation!!!!
youre sitting wondering if you applied it wrong, or didnt wait long enough (5 min wasnt enough)
Initial part is thick and cakey from drying, followed by normal formula.. EVERY day
Bit drying... I guess thats the point of mattifying.. but I need long term mattifying, not for the moment
using it just to not waste because you keep forgetting to return it
having to deal with that weird film again rubbing off
cussing and having neighbors wonder about you
I'm almost out of my Pop Beauty Face Magnet Primer, and my local Ulta no longer carries it in store. So on a whim, I decided to check out Sephora for a new primer. This was on the Sephora Favorites rack. The thing that first attracted me to this primer is the fact that it is made of 94% natural materials. Even though my skin is extremely sensitive, I can use sillicone based primers with no problem whatsover. But why put chemicals on your face when you don't need to? So I figured this primer was worth a try.
This primer is a lightweight, flesh colored, gel. I was a little concerned about the color, but it dries clear. About the only thing that I like about this primer is that it dries very quickly. It also has a pleasant smell, but that's about it for the positives.
In my opinion, this primer is SO not worth the $33 price tag. I'm not normally that concerned about packaging, but the packaging for this is terrible. It is the same type of tube as Preparation H or hydrocortisone cream. I also found the packaging rather ugly. It's just a boring white tube with brown on it. I also kind of wish this came with a pump. The squeeze tube makes it a little hard to control the amount that comes out.
I don't like the way this feels on my face after it dries. It feels heavy and thick. Almost like you are wearing a mask. It doesn't feel lightweight at all. I used this under my Makeup Forever Mat Velvet foundation. I also don't think this primer does all that great of a job of creating a smooth surface for foundation. In fact, I think it does the opposite. This primer makes my foundation harder to blend and apply. I also wasn't impressed with the mattifying effect of this primer. It didn't really seem like it made or kept me matte much at all.
It also didn't do much to keep my makeup on longer. With my Pop Beauty primer, my makeup stays on about 12 hours before it starts to fade away. With this primer, my foundation started disappearing and oil started breaking through after about 5 hours. Which is about how long my foundation lasts without primer.
I debated about keeping this as a backup, but I think I'm going to return it to Sephora. The Pop Beauty Face Magnet primer is far superior to this one. I wouldn't recommend this primer and won't repurchase.
I originally bought this in a smaller sized duo (0.34 fl oz) with the pomegranate mattifying serum. Something else to preface reviews of this product is that it is not intended to fill in pores as some primers are, so that should not really be a negative for this product.
*Mattifies my super oily skin!
*Lightly scented, and I actually like it
*Packaging is a good squeeze tube that allows user to get ALL of the product out.
*Feels light on the skin
*A little goes a long way. I have the 0.34 fl oz small size and have used it so much, yet I still have about half of it left.
Returning ugh....this made me an oil slick within hours. Too bad i wasn't able to get a sample first. Im staying with my Lorac im so sensitive primer.
Originally tried a sample, & was pleasantly surprised at how well this primer worked! At my age (56) most women need a moisturizer, then we prime, then apply our foundation. I got SO tired of every primer out there being nothing but silicone, which only resulted in 1) it sitting on top of my face making it feel like a grease slick, 2) causing my long wearing foundation to literally slide off my face, 3) not minimizing pores & causing blackheads, & 4) causing my mild rosacea to look like I'd been on a week long drinking binge, from the irritation silicone based primers cause me.
I love the nude shade of this primer, & being water based it is NOT greasy! Soaks right in, without feeling tight. I've used it alone, or over my moisturizer with great results either way. It evens out your skin tone nicely. Best of all is it does minimize pores & smooth wrinkles, my makeup had really great staying power, it is mattifying, & my foundation does not sink into my lines with this primer. I discovered it also works well as lip primer. Bonus! lol!
Because of the price I only gave it 4 lippies. It could less expensive, in comparison to how much product you receive for $33+ tax. In fairness, a little goes a long way, so it should last awhile.
I have oily and acne prone skin. This product smelled nice. It seemed to work well for about 4 hours then my face was all oily again:( I like how it is almost entirely natural and silicon free though!
OK, first off, my skin is generally very oily. I will usually have to blot at least once a day.
So I've been looking for a mattifying product for a long time and I am finally happy with this one, and no longer feel the need to keep searching. This will keep my face matte for a whole day at the office, and almost the whole day just out and about. On a particularly hot day, I will sweat, but if I blot my face, it is only sweat and not oil.
I wear glasses and that makes my nose area especially vulnerable to oiliness, but that problem doesnt really come up if I use this mattifiying primer. I find that this is really good when used with a matte finish foundation, and especially with powder as well. I even find that this primer allows me to use foundations that have a more luminous finish as well, which I was never really able to do previously with my extremely oily skin. It keeps the oil under control so that I can wear a luminous foundation and my face will look nice and glowy instead of like a shiny greaseball. I personally like the fragrance. Maybe some people may not like it, some people don't like fragranced products, but I enjoy it. It comes out like a skintone, beige color and it blends out invisibly.
Now I know some people have had complaints about pilling and clumping. I find that this can be avoided by your application technique. I usually squeeze out an amount about the size of a pea or even a little less. I apply this product to the different areas of my face one by one. So I start out by putting a dot of the product on my nose and just gently spread it out with my other clean fingers. Next I dot some more on my cheek and spread it out, etc etc until I have covered my whole face. You want to cover your face bit by bit, because if you try spreading it all over and rubbing it in, it starts to clump because it starts to dry too quickly. It's like a foundation that dries quickly so you have to work fast on small sections of your face one by one.
Once you have applied it to an area, you don't want to reapply because it will cause the product to clump. After you have finished applying it to your face, let it set for a minute or two before you apply your foundation. If your foundation is on the thicker side, you will want to stipple and pat, DON'T RUB and you won't have clumping. If your foundation is more liquidy, you should be ok, just try to use a brush instead of your fingers. I find that it clumps more if you apply your foundation with your fingers.
Other than that, I think this a really effective primer/mattifier for people with oil problems. Hope this was helpful :)
Got this initally as a product sample from Sephora. I almost threw it away...BUT then I saw that the product had lots of natural goodies 95% natural. So I tried it. Now I use organic unrefined coconut oil as my facial moisturizer after trying a million different acne fighting products. I was amazed at how well it blended with my complexion and moisturizer. Next test--the makeup. I use Nars matte foundation, powder, and sheer illuminator. Perfection! I got compliments all day long.
PROs-very sheer, nice "fragrance", not too heavy, mostly natural
CONS-moderately priced, hard to find--I had to go to the ritzy mall to get it or order online, ugly packaging
Bottomline--I went back to Sephora to purchase this item after I squeezed every last drop of the product from the sample.
I received a sample from Sephora while trying to choose my first primer. I ended up going with the Too Faced Poreless primer, but decided to try this one out anyway. It went on pretty smoothly and a half a pea size was enough for my entire face. Although it didn't feel greasy, I definitely felt like I had some weight on my face. This primer instantly mattified my face! I layered my Shiseido SPF 42 liquid foundation over it and sealed it with Clinique's mineral loose powder. It did a fantastic job controlling the oil all over my face and keeping all of my makeup on through 8 hours of working as a barista behind a hot coffee machine. It withstood several hours of light sweating, and I did not have to blot once! My makeup was practically unaltered.
However, when I got home my face felt very heavy and I couldn't wait to take my makeup off. When I did, I noticed little white bumps on the sides of my cheek and all over my forehead! I also had new blackheads on my cheeks! So gross! So while it completely delivered in every other aspect, this primer really clogged my pores.
IN A NUTSHELL
-extreme oil control
-makeup lasted 8+ hours even through sweating
-broke me out and clogged my pores after just one use!
I got this as a deluxe sample size. I don't notice the effectiveness of this primer. My makeup didn't stay on longer because of it and not only that but while I apply it, it starts flaking off. I love Korres but I am disappointed in this product. I do love the way it smells though. :)
