LE, Fall 2011, MAC Fall Colour Collection
Product - Ash Violet is a soft/muted heathered purple with faint silver and burgundy microshimmer. Not too dark/harsh, too grey, too purple, and not too flat or flashy. For my AAB/NC25 coloring and dark brown eyes, this is a nice alternative to brown and black for everyday. Good pigmentation and staying power. Does not smudge or run on my sometimes oily, sometimes watery eyes. Has the usual smooth creamy texture and staying power of Fluidlines in the usual sleek and sturdy packaging.
Comparisons - More purple, less muted than BB Black Mauve Shimmer Ink. Only slightly less purple, slightly less vibrant than BB Violet Ink in the pot, but Ash Violet wears darker, more heathered. continued >>
I guess I got duped by the color in the pot. It does look like ash violet. Problem? It applies like ash violet. Very opaque purple with hints of gray. Not enough pigmentation and very thin in consistency...
I love the colour of this Fluidline - it's a deep purple with subtle shimmer, and the shimmer actually translates when applied on skin. However, the consistency is gritty and doesn't apply as smoothly or as pigmented as a traditional fluidline like Blacktrack. It's nice to have as an alternative to black liner, but don't put too much effort into tracking it down unless you're gaga over coloured Fluidlines. I myself find pretty much all coloured fluidlines lacking in pigmentation.
I'm really liking this liner from the Cindy Sherman collection. It's a dark violet with lots of shimmer, not as dark as Laura Mercier's Black Violet kohl liner and bluer than Clinique's Starry Plum Cream Shaper. The shimmer shows up on the lid but isn't overwhelming, which is nice - only a handful of liners that look shimmery when you swatch them actually look that way on the eye. Looks great with pale pink, ivory, gold and of course purple shadows, and would be flattering on any eye color (especially green) and skin tone.
