This is a prelim review of Bull Frog SuperBlock Lotion spf 50 w/ SolarSphere technology. My green 5 fl oz bottle says "waterproof, sweatproof." I purchased it at Target for around $8 in my ongong quest for hi spf, hi PPD (which in US ss is a joke, but I keep hoping) non-avobenzone containing (due to the fact my MMU will destabilize avobenzone) ss.
Today, I put my standby Ocean Potion spf 50 (yes it has avobenzone, but I put it on my body only not my face and I'm trying to use it up instead of throwing away - I still love everything about it except for the avo and the oxybenzone) on the left side of my body and this Bull Frog on the right side. Immediately, I can see 3 shades of skin tone difference - the Bull Frog DEFINITELY leaves a white cast which, if I wasn't using tan in a bottle to fake some summer color, I really wouldn't mind so much. It is thick and smells a bit medicinal/industrial (a definite difference from my lovely smelling OP).
However PPP folks I think would be just fine w/ the white cast as my whitened side matches my tummy which is in its native state of color (I don't put tan in a bottle lotion on it.)
If this stuff disappeared into my skin like OP, I would be much happier. However, I guess that is the trade off for no avo.
I will be outside for a few hours today in the MN summer sun (and the rest of the wknd) so next week, I will post the results as far as actual sun protection.
At this juncture I probably would not re-purchase since I am clinging to my vanity-driven wish to exhibit a bit of summer color (w/out damaging my skin).
I posted the ingredients. NOTE - the inactive ingredients on the interent (Amazon.com, drugstore.com) are slightly different than what is on my bottle. I listed what is on my bottle.
Per the CIBS ss simulator/calculator, the PPD of this ss is 8.1.
UPDATE 4 hours later: change in social plans = outside only for an hour = protection same as my OP side. HOWEVER, 30 min after application, I sat in my SUV, drove for 10 min, got out and wherever my legs were on the gray leather seat = white film = YUK = SOO not acceptable = will MOST definitely NOT repurchase. :(
Up for swap it goes = would be great for PPP folks or older kids (I just don't have the patience to sit and rub it in for that long on my rambunctious 6 year old. :)
