I really miss the oils Aveda had that you could mix and match. They even had the scents of their popular hair products (Shampure, the Brilliant line). I recently went to an Aveda store and this was one of the few things that I remember from Aveda circa mid 90's. Love is something that smells kind of putrid from the bottle, but if it works with your chemistry, it can be quite nice. I picked up the roller ball because I was feeling all nostalgic. I am disappointed. The strength of this scent has been decreased by at least 75%. Now for those who are repulsed by it, it will save you a gag if you happen to sniff it not knowing what to expect. For those who remember Love pre Lauder days, it's kind of annoying in a Lauder conspiracy way. Anyway, it stays close to the skin, lasts about 20 mins...(which is odd for an oil to do). Not worth the money in my opinion.

I bought this on impulse during my last visit at the Aveda Institute...and it is interesting. It smells like a woman at Bonnaroo who's been dancing all day and night. Someone who may or may not have dreadlocks, uses henna and Dr. Bronner's Magical soap, and plays guitar (badly). I am not this woman. Although, every once in a while, I have "earthy" days, and this is perfect for those, this is not an every day fragrance for me, and I prefer Aveda's Blue Oil.

I got this as a gift from a friend who works at an Aveda salon... I was excited when I opened it because I was expecting a traditional fresh, yummy Aveda scent... this is not it... there is just something "off" in it, I don't know if it is just the combination of the perfume on my skin but something reminds me faintly of urine... yeah, ew... it's also kind of hard to apply, as others mentioned the roller does not, well, "roll" easily. I'll use it up and forget about it.

PROS: Very patchouli, woodsy, earthy. But it does have some type of aphrodesical affect. Who knows? ;-) Don't know if that's a coicidence with it having that name. Lasts well for me. (Haven't had it in a long time, but miss it.)
CONS: You have to smell it to be sure you like it. It's very, very different. Quite expensive.

Disappointing... doesn't smell that good to me. I don't get the sandalwood, which is what I was really craving. The roller doesn't work very well, so it's hard to apply. And, like other reviewers, it doesn't stay on. Even an hour after I've applied it, it's gone. May return it.

An overhwelmingly pungent ylang ylang scent, that is poorly composed, sticky and messy to apply. Headshoppy and frankly, it's not worth the effort or the cost.

A scent for when you don't want to wear scent. It's a nice sandalwood with a hint of floral. Nothing terribly special about it or particularly offensive.

I tried this on and Yatra on today. Loved the Yatra and bought it (a bit pricey for an aveda product @ $70 but oh well). I used to really dislike the Love oil and yet I'm kind of enjoying it as well. It's a pretty simple blend imho and I'm basically getting Sandalwood here. And btw, who is telling people that Jo Malone (I read the reviews here) is a natural product line? It's NOT and Jo herself states that she prefers to use synthetics.

This has emerged as my favorite, and most wearable scents. This fragrance is completely delicious -- soft, spicy, sandalwoody, with something like a dried orange-peel -- and has NEVER made me feel sick to my stomach or given me a headache, which happens to me rather often even with scent I find yummy. I would glady wear it the rest of my life, but for two big problems: one, in the bigger bottle it's oil-based, and very difficult to apply. The roll-on (which I have) is better, but I really want an alcohol-based spray! I want to spritz it all over me... (I live in a hot climate and I find that refreshing). The other problem is, IT DOESN'T LAST! Maybe it's me, but I keep the roll-on in my purse and re-apply it all day, and it just doesn't seem to last more than ten minutes at a time. And it's rather pricey for me, so I've been mixing my own thing in a spray-bottle: ylang ylang oil and a few drops of patchouli in water. It' s way cheap and I've already gotten complements!

Although I liked this fragrance initially, it became a little overpowering once I had applied it during the day. It was overwhelmingly ylang-ylang at first, which did fade somewhat during the day but I then began to smell jasmine. In small amounts this fragrance is quite nice - such as mixed with an unfragranced body oil - but it is just too powerful a scent for me to wear. The rollerball applicator is a great idea and the price was very expensive for such a small amount. I would not buy this again as I felt it smelt differently in the store than when I bought it, but I suppose that once this fragrance has been exposed to the air (as in the store tester) then perhaps the fragrance changes.

I didn't relize this was meant to be a perfume. I thought it was an essential oil. I bought a large rount bottle for about $55 used it in my diffuser smelled wonderful. Will buy it again this Valentines Day.

*LOVE* this fragrance! I don't usually wear fragrances, but I tried this one on in the salon and fell in love with it. It's a nice, woodsy scent that isn't empowering and doesn't give me a headache (all fragrances, including natural ones by Jo Malone, tend to make me feel nauseous). This is the only Aveda product I've consistently liked and that I feel performs well for the price. Plus the small container and roll-on application make it perfect for travel.

Conceptually I like this oil. I appreciate it's purity and I like the scents that go into it, but in the end it's too simple. Might as well just dab a bit of your own sandalwood essential oil on the wrist. Naming it "Love" sort of implies an ambitious, revelatory scent but it's really quite boring and the scent disappears within an hour.

I love this scent which is typical of Aveda products. It's so light and doesn't have a horrid synthetic smell. It wears off very quickly though.

This is a very unusual scent and it takes a long time to dry down. On initial application, all you smell is the ylang-ylang and the indoles in this scent are immense! Almost guano-like in the beginning. But, give it time...it will come-
After an hour, still ylang, but green and buttery.
After several hours, ylang, more indoles from the jasmine. Okay now, a pretty combo of jasmine, rose and ylang.
Finally! The drydown, which is the HG of this scent- the incense and wood. Sandalwood, frankincense and myrrh, on top of the ylang and jasmine and rose.
The ylang never goes away, this is more of a circular scent, as in the top notes really really dissipate, they just morph somewhat. Even when the base notes come through, you still go a circular route back to the top. I think it's sensual, very earthy.
I think that the indoles in this are what bother some people. I'm one of the lucky ones.
Okay edited: down from a "4" to a "3". The guano-like note, hubby said "smells like weeds." I like this, and will occasionally be in the mood for its spa-like properties, but I won't repurchase.

One of the only Aveda scents that I do not like. This makes me nauseous... : (

The initial scent is quite lovely but after it dries down, blah, blah, double BLAH. Disgusting. I will never buy this stuff again. I wouldn't mind shelling out the money if it smelled better. I'm going back to Jo Malone.

Loved the intitial 10 minutes: rich, earthy, spunky. But the unpleasant drydown of flat anise ruins it.

I think this is a gorgeous fragrance- one of the few woody, ylang ylang type frags I like. It's a grower - I found it odd and alien at first but now I really like it. It almost has a bananaesque sweetness to it. To my nose there's violets and roses in there too, and the strong sandalwood. My main complaint about this is that being a perfume oil it is difficult to apply, and the staying power ain't great.
