i really like this shade
the beauty about it is that it is original!!
mac doesnt have any other brown/greys in the collection that are similar to this!
I was excited to purchase this color since I had heard it described as a taupeish gray. I recieved my order and decided to do a swatch to see the color for my self. I had to rub my finger over the shadow several times to get enough pigment to see the color. However, I actually used this eyeshadow in my eye look today. I put Sun Blonde on the lid and worked Groundcover into the crease. It took a long time for me to get this color into my crease. I had to go over it several times to get the color to show up, and when it did show up it was very patchy. I would not recommend this shadow and would not repurchase.
I'm kind of on the fence about Groundcover. I was so excited that it wasn't sold out when I went to the MAC counter. It's a taupe-y grey with a matte finish. I think the color payoff is adequate, as I am fair skinned (NW15-20). But my dislikes are the same for other matte finish shadows: chalky, splotchy, and hard to work with/blend. Overall kind of "meh" and if it were part of the permanent line I wouldn't want to buy it again.
Like the previous reviewer, I was REALLY looking forward to purchasing Groundcover and waited and waited for it to be released here. It looked so promising in the swatches I'd seen online and when I got to the store, found it looked just as good "in the flesh", in the pan. Then I went to swatch it. Honestly, NO colour came off when I ran my finger across the shadow. In fact, at first, I thought it was perhaps a "dummy" container - a plastic or "photo" replica rather than the real shadow! But no - THIS was the shadow. The SA tried to convince me that with the right brush, it was actually decently pigmented. So she whipped out her 239 and basically DUG it across the surface and then rubbed it over her hand far more roughly than you would ever want to do on the delicate skin of your eye lids! I was so glad I tried this in-store before buying it because it really was dismally bad. Alas, the other colour I wanted - Bows and Curtsies - was already SOLD OUT (and it's a real winner - the SA got the counter sample out of "hiding" for me to try and it was REALLY nice....but, as I say, sold out only 3 days after the launch).
Anyway, Groundwork LOOKED so promising, which made it a double let-down!
So I was so excited to get my Fashion Flower order post haste! I myself don't find the daisy debossing attractive but I figured the color looked versatile enough that it soon would be gone. Well Groundcover won't be joining the rest of my MAC family. It seems to be in the same family as Smut, though lighter. The pigmentation was very poor, poorer then The Jerk. I had trouble believing my eyes as my brushes, swiped lightly and then more firmly, did not pick up any color. I wondered if maybe it was the debossing? But I doubt Lucky Green had this problem. What I could transfer to my eyelid was streaky and did not want to make nice with the other colors. Splotchy, chalky, barely pigmented- what contest in Hell did I win? Ok I'm exaggerating, but not by much. Why do the LE shades so often seem poorer in quality? If not for my lipgelees I might have further soured on MAC.
