I think a primer needs to go with your foundation. I am still trying this primer out but so far it is not working for me. Could it be this primer is for a different foundation?
What do I want in a primer?
I want a primer to help my makeup to last. I have oily combo skin that is fair. I need a foundation with medium coverage. I currently use Studio Sculpt by MAC. And this primer did not make this coverage last at all. Not even an hour. I have also tried this primer with L'Oreal True match. This was worse.
I even tried using a small pea size amount as someone mentioned to see if maybe I was using too much. Still did not help. I wish I could say it was the silcon base but this can not be so as I have used other primers with a silcon base and they work pretty good with my True Match and my Mac SS.
Maybe this primer is to fill in cracks, nooks and crannys in one's face before makeup. Maybe it is for a heavy make up not a medium coverage makeup.
I wish I could like this at Sephora has great eyeliners, but this was a huge disappointment.
I have the Sephora Perfecting Ultra-Smoothing Primer. I believe the price is $16. I really like this primer on my oily skin. It goes on smoothly, makes my makeup application flawless, and extends the life of my makeup throughout the day. I wore this primer to work the other day under my Sephora Mineral Foundation, and it still looked fantastic 13 hours later! Usually if I go out after work, I have to totally wash my face and start over with my makeup. Otherwise I look like a greaseball by the end of the day. When I wore this primer, I just blotted, put on some eyliner, and I was good to go for the night. Great purchase, and less expensive than some of the other high end primers. As a side note, also did not make me break out.
This primer felt very good while applying it. I have normal skin, and the product did have a super moisturizing effect that made my face feel very soft and smooth, and it definitely filled in the few and light fine lines that I have. The downside is that is took a *lot* more foundation than I've found necessary with other primers to provide coverage. Any makeup I tried to apply after putting on this primer just disappeared from my face. It didn't extend the life of my makeup (which is what I primarily look for in a primer). The worst part is my entire face turns sunburn red the a day after using the product. In addition, I'm not a fan of pump bottles as I think it's hard to control the amount that comes out.
This is a good primer. It makes the makeup last. However, this is very expensive. Most primers that I've used come in 1 oz packages. This is $15 for 1/2 an ounce (or $30 an ounce). I think that it way too expensive for Sephora brand primer.
This is my HG primer! I absolutely love it! I use about two pumps all over my face. Someone else commented on how red it makes your face after application -- I totally agree. It almost looks like a sunburn on me, but the redness goes away after I apply my powder foundation. I set my makeup with Skindanavia setting spray and everything lasts 12+ hours! The primer also makes my powder foundation apply so nicely. The price is affordable because I've been on the same bottle for about 4 or 5 months, so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. I used to use MAC Matte gel, but this product gives you the same, if not more, product for cheaper.
I have a lot of scars from years of horrible acne. This actually sits on top of the skin to prevent makeup from settling into any scars or wrinkles/lines. I've seen YouTube videos where people sometimes use two thin coats to "blur" the scars.
UGH returned this after the second day! It did nothing for my makeup and felt greasy on my face! I ended up oilier throughout the day than normal. EWWWWW. I returned it for Laura Mercier Oil free primer which works 10 times better! Sorry Sephora this is a fail!
Needed a primer because i ran out of the one i was recently using, diddnt want to have to hand out 40 bucks, so i went with this sephora one which was recommended by one of the ladies who worked there. Not my favorite primer, but as i said i needed one and chose whatever. I feel like it doest keep everything in place how a primer should. The packaging isnt my fav either, i was trying to pump some out the other day and the product flew out and splat all over me. Going to use up the product but not planning on repurchasing it again.
I have a love-hate relationship with this primer! I love how it applies and gives my foundation a poreless/flawless finish. I hate how pricey this is. I believe it went up in price as well by a few dollars since I last purchased it. I have tried many primers and they really did nothing in terms of making my skin look smoother or have my foundation glide on better. Most of them just felt like I just put another layer of some useless product on. This ultra-smoothing primer by Sephora is amazing. The texture is something else as well. It's not really a gel but it kinda looks like gel? It has a slick feeling to it but doesn't feel heavy on my skin. It's similar to the Smashbox Photo Ready primer. I use this under my eyes and it makes my under eye concealer (also by Sephora) glide on beautifully! I have a small wrinkle under my eye, and this primer does a beautiful job in filling it! Doesn't feel greasy even at the end of the day but I don't have very oily skin. Would definitely rebuy!
This stuff is amazing! I have super oily skin, and this actually works to help my make up stay on all day whether it be my foundation, or bb cream. I use half a pump for my entire face and that's enough. It has a cooling effect and it smells great. The price is also pretty reasonable when you compare it to other primers at Sephora. Best part is that this is PARABEN FREE which is a huge part of why I think this is amazing. It's a good price, good product, and does not contain harmful chemicals. Most definitely a re purchase.
This primer really smooths any lines or acne scarring, and creates a great base for liquid and powder foundation. It makes my foundation glide and smooth on much better and makes skin feel soft to touch. It's kind of a clear gel-like primer, it's not heavy and feels really light. I only use one pump to cover my face, concerntrating where scarring is the most prominent. I don't know if it makes my foundation last any longer throughout the day but for easier, smoother application it is excellent. I would recommend this to any skin type, I have combination skin and it works fine on me and doesn't clog my pores and it's never broken me out like most skin products do. It's similar to Lancome La Base primer, in fact they are almost identical products however this one is much cheaper but gives the same effect.
