I absolutely HATE this eyeshadow quad.. There's no pigmentation what's so ever! The colours look very pretty in the packaging but, when you try to apply it, there's no colour pay off. Complete waste of money.
I have a love/hate with this product. The colors are gorgeous and it's perfect for an everyday neutral eye look that brings out my blue eyes BUT it has terrible fallout and I always end up getting some on my cheeks and nose. Very disappointing.

sun safari quad: The colors are very pretty. Great for everyday wear. I would not say that the color stay on at the same pigmentation levels they start
Off at the beginning of the day even with an urban decay primer. It does a decent job. The color pay off is very natural with a slight hint of glamour due to the shimmer in the eyeshadow
I am reviewing the new formula. This is the same quality as my Dior quint Incognito and a nicer set of warm toned neutrals. I was torn between this a smoky brun which has a cooler more taupey cast to it. I'm a warm toned redhead so this won out. Later update, I bought smoky brun too.
The colours are a shimmery pinky gold cream as a highlight shade. Shimmery peach, rose gold and a bronze round out this quad. I'm reminded of the much coveted limited edition Dior quint Iridescent Leather or the Elegante (spring 2009 LE) set in the selection.
Very nice addition to a neutral collection of shadows. I highly recommend it for anyone with blue, green or hazel eyes or warm but pale colouring.
Colour payoff is great and the texture is smooth and very blend able although a bit dry. Not sure about the shimmer on my aging lids but putting it with my trusty butter pecan matte duo by Clinique solved that and it bumps up my look out of boring and into polished neutrals.
None of the shades is dark enough or matte enough for an eyeliner but if you get the Orion trio it has a lovely dark brown that I've been using and that trio tones nicely in with this Sun Safari set.
Walmart had a sale. I picked this and the orion trio up for 3.88 each CDN. I will happily buy this sun safari quad again.
I received the Sun Safari quad as a christmas present this past year and I have fallen in love. It's perfect for the simple, everyday makeup, and that's exactly how I use it.
Instead of following the small picture on the back, I use the second lightest color beneath my brows, the darkest on my lid, the next to darkest between those two, and then the lightest and a slight highlight on the bottom of my eyes.
The slight shimmer in the colors picks up wonderfully in the light and I will continue to get this quad until it is discontinued!! <3 continued >>
wowie! I have since repurchased since Rimmel finally upgraded & updated their shadows & i have to say, Much better than the older version but I still do like the older quad too since they are still decently pigmented & great to use for sheer looks or daytime more natural looks. But if you were disappointed in the previous version, Please go try these now, they are AMAZING EYESHADOWS! they have def upgraded the new formula & these shadows are buttery smooth!
~~~~~~~~~~~~ PRICE/AVAILABILITY ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rimmel selection varies for us girls in the US, we don't have some of the products like they have overseas but Rimmel products can be found at local drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid as well as Walmart & Target. Availability as well as price will vary depending on your location/sales/discounts but the quads cost around $4-5. the price is pretty good & Rimmel tends to run cheaper than some companies.
~~~~~~ SHADE/FORMULA/PERFORMANCE ~~~~~~~
The formula on the older version wasn't that great but it was pretty good so i'm just going to review the new version of the quads. The shadows are super soft, buttery smooth. Some shadows in each are a tad better than some but overall, all 4 shadows are soft, pressed well with no chalkiness like before. apply & blend very nicely. The pigmentation has increased by 100%. They all show up very well. i was def surprised by how pigmented the shadows are. In this quad, you get 4 great shadows. They are all the same size in the quads and each quad has 4 coordinating shadows to make a complete look or use however you want which is nice to have so many options.. So onto each shade- In Sun Safari- ill start at the top shadow & go clockwise-
Dark milk chocolate brown- this is your defining shadow, its the darkest. Its a great dark chocolate brown with a slight golden shimmer that is very fine, shows up metallic on lid. I love using this to define outer v area or smudging along lash line for a smokey look. this is def dark enough for using as a liner
Bronze mid tone- you get two shadows like this that look alike but have a slight difference. this one is tad darker. its a bronze copper shadow. great for all over lid very pretty metallic shade. can be used for any shadow look
Champagne- this is your highlight shade. does have a golden shimmer throughout so you may need a matte highlight if you prefer. i love using this on the inner 1/3 of eyelid & tear duct area to open up eyes. can be used as a sheer wash of color or a sheer highlight, def very pretty
Bronze mid tone- this is almost the same as the one across from it but a tad lighter. its a light bronze/brown copper. has a metallic finish but still gorgeous nonetheless. i love using this all over the lid or using the darkest color for daytime or nite time smoky look.
All four shadows are great! if you like neutrals or bronze shadows, then this is for you. this quad reminds me so much of the Maybelline Sunlit Bronze quad so if you have that, then you could skip out on this. Either way, i own both & find this one now to be easier to work with since there's less fall out of sparkle than the Maybelline. This also reminds me of my beloved LA Colors "Truffles" quad which is amazing in quality but more metallic than this quad. So i have 3 quads that all look similar but love em all regardless..Overall, i def think its a great quad to add some pizazz to a look, day or nite. It can be used for many different looks. Those more subtle or a little more dramatic with color.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PACKAGING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The quads come in a square hard plastic compact with a see thru window on the front. A step up from the previous packaging. The back is shiny black with labeling/info/ shade name sticker on the front casing. The compact snaps shut/open easily but doesn't feel loose or flimsy. Its sturdy enough where it hasn't broken or cracked. The shadows are triangular shaped and placed so the make a square. I like the triangles but some may hate that the corners make sticking a brush in sometimes difficult but the pans are decent size & run rather deep. you get equal amounts of each shadow. (the trios, they're diff sizes) I love love love the quilted pattern on each shadow. Makes it look so pretty that i don't want to mess it up since it don't run the whole way through. & on the bottom shadow, they have pressed their Rimmel Crown logo in the shadow- WOW rimmel sure stepped up with these. I love how pretty they look! simple yet effective packaging. I love how the shadows look!
Overall, another great quad. If you have the older version of these quads Id def suggests giving the new version a try. I find the quality to be soo much better & i love the shadows. The quads have been reformulated & def a major UPGRADE! Sun Safari is a nice simple quad to make some very pretty looks. I love it! continued >>
This eyeshadow quad is fabulous. It's very natural. It has a peachy golden lid color, a darker peachy copper crease color, a dark chocolate outer crease color, and a light golden white brow bone color. The peachy color is very sparkly and will create fallout if you don't tap your brush. I notice that the fallout is easily removed with a towel or cloth of some sort, though. The other three colors have barely noticeable sparkle and have more of a satiny finish. The packaging is much improved from their last, and much better than the blush packaging, however it's still not very good. Not the worst, but definitely not the best when it comes to packaging, but you get what you pay for, and these quads are very inexpensive. I will definitely be repurchasing. These shadows warm up my warm face that is often made to look dull and sallow in the winter lighting. They will also be great in the summer time.
I bought this at Target because it was on sale (for like a dollar)
I give this packaging quality a 2 out of 5 because the lid thing came off so I have to snap it back on and off whenever I want to use this. (But they changed the packaging so I don't know if there's going to be the same problem with other people....I bought this before the new packaging came out)
As for the product, it's okay. I don't like how it creases very easily (but then again I don't really use primer and I have oily lids). But I use the lightest shade on my inner corners of my eyes (and lower rims of my eyes that are near the tear duct) and the lasting power's really great!! As for the second lightest color (which is the yellow-y tan/golden color) The color barely shows up and it's practically glitter... And the bronzey-brown color, it's alright. :/ ..And for the dark/grey/brown color, it's not that great as an eyeshadow but I use it on my eyebrows and it's pretty good. (: ....the only thing I like about this eyeshadow is the lightest shade. If they sold that ALONE then I would buy it again, but since they don't I won't repurchase.
Not the best eye shadow quad, but not the worst I have tried either. The quad contains a peach, copper, taupe-grey, and ivory shades. All the shadows are super frosty and almost metallic in finish. The pigmentation is ok and with a primer and packing on application the shadows are quite pretty and great for day time summer looks. Overall I won't be repurchasing as there are better drug store eye shadows available.
I enjoyed this product! The colors in this quad looked good together and gave a pretty yet subtle look. The only downfall is that some of the shadows aren't as pigmented as I would have liked but I am still impressed with these shadows! I would encourage you to try this quad it would be great for a summer look! :)
