This is a MUST HAVE for everyone, and it's AWESOME for people with oily skin (me). This works great and it's something I will not do without. Your pores disappear and it makes your skin silky smooth! I have had a few people ask me if I had a facial or ask me what I was using because my face looked so smooth. I keep one at home and carry another in my purse in case I need to touch up during the day. I did buy a smaller sponge to carry in my purse, because the sponge that comes with it is big. I could go on and on about the benefits of this product, but I suggest you try it for yourself.
If you have oily skin then this is a must have!!! Esp in the summer! I seriously think that the ppl who didn't like this product are using it wrong. You should not be able to see this product on the sponge, if so ur using to much! It shouldn't ball up on ur skin, if so ur using it wrong. U tap the sponge on the product, just pressing product onto the sponge lightly and then you tap/blot ur face lightly. Ppl who are using this for the first time, just do half of ur face at first and then compare lol! You will fall in love. This is an amazing product that replaces blotting in general and touching up w/powder. Way to go Mally!!
Wow wow wow, this product is amazing under or over your foundation, it blurs any imperfections in a instant and is so smooth and velvety to the skin! 5/5
Well, I immediately loved the product when I first tried it. It kept my oily areas under control all day, and I was even looking to swap for it as I wanted a backup just in case.
I have had the item for about two weeks now, and I will admit I am still loving it, but I will complain about the size of the compact as well as the sponge is just way too big. For this price, you would think they would have thought more about packaging, size, convenience, etc. Some of us that have oily skin like to dab the excess oils off mid day, but how can you when you cant even bring the compact or sponge with you because its just too large? So I gave it one lippe for price, and one lippie for packaging. Overall, I still do like the product, I am just hoping that they come out with something more sleek, or convenient for us ladies that need to dab the excess oils off mid day.
So after using this for months, I have decided that I won't be buying this again. I love the way it mattifies without looking powdery, and I like the way it lasts on my skin. However, when I wear this over my makeup all day, it makes my foundation become blotchy underneath. If I touch my face then it smears the mattifying gel which then smears the makeup underneath making it ball up. I am always touching my face so by the end of a typical work day I am left with patchy foundation. This doesn't work for me when I wear it all day, but for shorter occasions (going out for dinner etc) then this is fine. I guess I am going back to using a regular powder from now on.
I have both sizes the square and the round compact (the round I got from a kit). It does mattify my oily skin, I love that it makes my large pores disappear. But I have to reapply throughout the day. The square compact I keep on my vanity because of the huge sponges it came with. It's too big to carry around in my purse and I small purses. I have washed the sponge many times and its holding up. The round compact I keep in my purse, but like the other review the hinge broke on the mirror & puff compartment. I hope Mally will change this to a more durable and redesign the packaging. I have powder compacts (from a different brand) that the round puff is in the same compartment with the powder & mirror but with a hard plastic separator in that keeps the puff from touching the product during storage and not in the back of the compact.
I love this product!!! I have huge pores and am super oily. I have tried a million primers, powders, etc. to help with this issue. It seems like its just silicone pressed into a compact, but to me something is different about it. It makes my skin look flawless like nothing else! My pores disappear. The only thing i wish it would last longer throughout the day, but will still continue to use. Love!!!
As a professional makeup artist, I like this innovative product. It is sheer and absorbs oil without leaving a visible trace. The finish is extra matte so it is great for male use, especially on the recessionary areas near the temples. This product is being added to my makeup kit for high definition filming. The only caveat to working with this is that your base and bronzer shades must be spot on. However, I dislike the packaging because it is hard to open and takes extra time.
This was a gift from a friend. I had to really work with this to figure out how to classify this because it is a truly unique product. I ended up going to Mally's website to read up on it and discovered that it's really an invisible powder in a silicone form. It's genius however imo it was mot marketed and packaged properly.
The sponge is much too large for what it is meant to do. The compact is very hard to open. I get that it has to be air tight to keep the product fresh and soft, however I have to use a pen to get it open every single time I want to use it.
For what the sponge does it could have been a smaller, flatter sponge. I don't understand the shape and/or thickness. This from the website:
Mally's Evercolor Poreless Face Defender is the perfect finishing touch for your makeup. This remarkable technology yields an utterly sheer, featherweight product that diffuses the look of pores, minimizes fine lines, and helps protect your makeup so it lasts from morning to night. Face Defender gives you that flawless matte finish without the dry, ashy look of powder. The result is silky smooth skin and longer-lasting makeup. It comes with a unique buffed-edge Japanese sponge.
I hope Mally re-packages this with a sponge that actually fits into the compact. I get that it's for "pouncing" and not spreading, but even a boxier compact would be better than a flat one if the sponge is going to be a selling point.
I received this as part of a $200 Mally kit from QVC, as I'd wanted to try so many of her products for so long it was worth the money (and thank jeebus for Easy Pay!). Like many women I just get the oilies in my t-zone throughout the day, and really hate packing on more powder or compact makeup. That's why this product intrigued me. It does give me a nice matte finish without looking dry or aging because it has no color at all.
I agree with many of the other reviewers on several points
1) You could probably get the same results by patting on a silicone-based primer throughout the day. However, you don't get the convenience of having a solid product in a compact
2) The compact design is really annoying. It splits in two, so the product is in the top half and the sponge and mirror are on the bottom half. Which means that you remove the sponge, flip the compact over, dab the product, and then flip the compact over again to use the mirror. I know this sounds petty, but it's really inconvenient when you're trying to do a quick touch-up.
3) It's expensive for what you get, especially since you could probably dupe the results as I stated above. I would buy the product again, but only as part of a kit. The Poreless Face Defender on it's own is $40, but I paid $200 for 14 full-sized products including this one. But $40 for just this??? Uh-uh!
4) While the immediate results are better than powder, it doesn't last any longer than powder. I also find that I like to use blotting papers before I pat more of this on.
And I don't want to be argumentative, but I don't get why someone complained about the sponge, saying it gets soiled from dabbing it on top of their other makeup. Of course it gets soiled! Every makeup sponge gets soiled, especially the ones in compacts! No matter what kind of product it's for, I still either wash or replace my sponges. Just a head-scratcher for me.
If the product doesn't work for you, I respect your opinion. But regarding the silicones: I'm also acne-prone and haven't ever, ever broken out from silicones. Some people may be sensitive to this Poreless Face Defender (for whatever reason), but just because you have acne does not mean you will automatically break out because of the silicones in the product. No disrespect, just putting that out there.
UPDATE 5/24/13: Not long after I wrote this review the crappy compact broke. There are two different compact designs for this product: a square one, and a round one. I got the round one. One of the hinges in the back broke through the plastic, which means that the mirror is no longer attached to the compact. I didn't even have it that long. I've never had a compact just fall apart on me with normal wear and tear, and as this product is very expensive, that is unacceptable. The product is not good enough to validate continued use for me, as dealing with the compact is so annoying, I can't even stand to use it. It's going in the trash right now.
