I'm completely in love with this palette! First off, the packaging is gorgeous, the finishes are subtle and range from matte to a slight sheen or light shimmer. My favorite shades are the deep indigo blue liner (I use it along the lashline to do a smokey look), the deep matte grey shade which has just a hint of blue/green/grey, and the subtle shimmery sapphire blue shade in the center. I normally don't wear anything but neutrals, but I've learned from this palette that I can branch out and try a pop of color just along the crease or lashline and the look is still subtle.

I was so heartbroken after my disappointment from the UD Naked palette that I knew I had to get something to make myself feel better :-) I had been wanting this Guerlain palette for a very long time but the price was stopping me. Yes, very expensive. But it takes a certain amount to heal a broken heart :-) I bought it and couldn't be happier. I have been using it daily for the past two weeks and all I can say is "Wow!". With this palette I don't need anything else to create the complete look - from very subtle daily office look to dramatic evening one and all of them are oh, so elegant! It has it all. And the packaging is gorgeous! I really enjoy even just opening it :-) The brush in this palette is pretty useless but I never use them anyway. The colors are gorgeous and they hold up pretty well on my oily eyelids (with base on) and they also suit my cool-toned fair complexion. I especially love the antique gold, royal blue and darker grey shadows. The dark indigo liner is wonderful as well. It compliments the blue in my grey eyes even if I do a very simple beige-antique gold look. What I really like about it is that there is no obvious shine-glitter-frost to these shadows, which makes them rather unique as most eyeshadows nowadays are exactly that - shiny-glittery-frosty. Yet they do have the lovely silky sheen to them but it's very subtle and I guess that's what makes all the looks, you can create with this palette, so elegant! I can't get enough of this palette and I would absolutely buy it again if anything happens to it! :-) Highly recommended! UPDATE 3 months have passed and I have to say that I use this palette much more often than any of the (numerous) eyeshadows that I own. It's just perfect for every-day-look. I have changed my mind about the brush. The eyeliner side is actually quite good! I use it on a regular basis (not only with this palette).

The packaging : really beautiful, the most beautiful I have ever found. So heavy and luxurious, I guess this is the reason why it is so expensive ! maybe it is made of Gold ??? just kidding...
The colors : I have resisted but then when I have swatched the center bottom shadow, I fell in love. This color is amazing but it is not amazingly pigmented. It is a little bit like Mac Patina but more on the greyish side (less gold) and more cold. You can check Temptalia site for great swatches.
The other colors are just fine for what I use them, the left one for the crease, the top for the brow bone and the right for the outer v, then the liner for smudging over a pencil eyeliner. The result is a very elegant and long lasting application (over a primer, I used Too Faced). I can wear this look at work without any problem, not over done. Just very elegant.
Now, I will not buy it again only because of the price, if you have the possibility to swatch it and if you love the colors and texture and if you can have a nice price then great ! But it is not worth the current price !
In my opinion it is a beautiful compact (the only one I like from this collection) but it is nothing compared with the quality of Bal de Minuit from Guerlain which is the MOST beautiful colors and texture ever ! and of course LE, sigh... it was a special quad with shadows that do not even compare to the usual Guerlain quads but are much much better.
What I love about this Place Vendome compact is that :
- I do not need another eyeshadow for the complete look. (I do not even use the blue one yet, maybe later...).
- it is the fastest way I can be ready in the morning, with this compact, no errors made, it looks like whatever you do you cannot go wrong ...
Edit : I need to add a lippie today because after having used it often, I really love the colors. They have just the right intensity, for example the highlight is just perfect, the crease color (left shadow) is also very good, it is not too dark but this way I do not overapply which I tend to do with Mac Cork for example, and the others are so beautiful that if this would not be so expensive I would definitely repurchase... Also they are not cakey at all, a very very nice combination and a gorgeous compact...
Re-edit : well... I have to say that the more I use it, the more I love it.. honestly. And I have to change the "I will not buy this again" to "Yes I will... "
I have bought the 29 rue des Sevres today (I was able to find two discounts vouchers that helped with the price as here in Switzerland the normal price is approx 112 Swiss Francs which is 112 US dollars... )
I really love the looks that you can do with these palettes, it is so elegant and if you want you can do Dramatic anytime as well.
It was quite a chock when you are used to work with the texture of Urban Decay, Mac, Nars eyeshadows and then you swatch the Guerlains and say "This is NOT pigmented at all !!! it is not worth it !!!" In a way it is true, but it looks like it is meant to be this way for a reason...
It is like you enter a room, people see you and then, they see your beautiful makeup. With Urban Decay, that I also love, you enter a room, people see your beautiful makeup and then they see you... Maybe this does not have any sense... :o)
