I have tried Tom's of Maine toothpastes and cannot stand the taste of them - very pasty and unflavored and my mouth does not feel fresh after using. This on the other hand seems to keep morning breath problems at bay, and I feel happy that I am using a more natural toothpaste. The flavor does not bother me at all as the mintyness covers up the orange for me, and I actually like the flavor. Once I get more dental work done, I'll probably switch to the one that does not have the nitrate in it for sensitivity.

Thanks to a bit of receding gum along one tooth, I have to use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth with the active ingredient potassium nitrate. I prefer using natural toothpaste, but there are very few that contain this ingredient. I've been using Tom's of Maine sensitive toothpaste, but I can no longer find the version without sodium lauryl sulfate, which they apparently made only briefly.

So I was delighted to find this SLS-free sensitive toothpaste (with potassium nitrate) from KMS--until I saw that it comes only in one flavor: Cool Orange Mint Freshness. While I love oranges and orange juice, I generally am not fond of orange-flavored products, whether that flavoring is natural or artificial. But eventually I decided that I had to try this toothpaste anyway.

I love the way this toothpaste performs. It really seems to clean my teeth well, and it keeps any sensitivity at bay. And I like the gel texture. But alas! I really do hate the flavor! Sometimes it even makes me gag. It reminds me of minty orange soda. Ugh! Why can't KMS make this toothpaste in one of their other flavors, like just plain Cool Mint Freshness? Until they do, I'm going back to Tom's of Maine Sensitive Toothpaste.
