Ok, by now I've owned a few flat irons. My HAI Convertible 1 3/8" was one of the best. It never gave up even after I dropped it in the sink and the plate fell out. I dunno if it's repairable but it still heats up! it's kinda dangerous to use though... My T3 1 3/8" just plain stopped working for no good reason!! It was great while it lasted but I babied that thing and it stopped cold on me (after the warranty - go figure!). My FHI Runway, although being so highly hyped, wasn't my absolute fave. It's bevelled (NOT rounded) edges seemed to catch a lot of 'gunk' and I constantly had to clean it. I worried if the edges on the plates would be more damaging to my hair than if the edges had been rounded (like my other two irons, the HAI & T3) and I did prefer a wider than 1" plate. I waffled on either the GHD or FHI Platform. I went with the Platform since the GHD doesn't come in a 1 1/4" size which I find to be more efficient on my long thickish hair. (I have lots of fine hair). Since my hair is fine and blonde, it was essential I had variable temp. control. My FHI Platform not only has temp. control. but also smooth rounded plate edges and feels very solid in my hands. Heats up *fast* and I do find the wider plates make for quicker work on longer hair, yet it's not so wide that you can't style bangs or do curls if you wanted to. There is also way less buildup on this iron than the Runway (which seemed to scrape the heat protectant out of my hair... or something!) I am... very pleased! continued >>
