I had gotten a sample of this product, and absolutely loved it sooo much. The brush was stiff and a great usable size. It seemed to be the best mascara ever. So i went out to buy it, the brush was different, which i was bummed about. But eh i wanted to try it. Its nice, but very smudgy, always, always have lash marks right below my eyebrows about an hour later, which i find extremely strange. Never had this happen. Also when i take it off, it NEVER comes off very well. Still have a ring of clumpy tar like glue around my top lid. I wanted to love this, but disapointed. Dont buy!

I love this mascara. Like everyone else, I have tried loads and loads of mascaras to find the one. For reference, I have above average eyelashes - quite long but average volume, therefore I tend to go after volumizing mascaras.
First I had the original one, which while being as awesome as this one, dried out pretty fast. Then I got this version to try it out and I have to say I got it half a year ago and it is still useable - however, I only used it twice a week or so. In comparison to the original thats pretty amazing.
It clumped first but a week or two later it got to normal and did an amazing job making my eyelashes long and most of all very pronounced and very voluminous! As it says on the tin, almost like false eyelashes.
I have bought Diorshow Extase recently to try out YSL's biggest rival, and while its also a brilliant mascara, it does not reach the awesomeness of the YSL. I will definitely repurchase.

Seriously dramatic effect! I love it for going out, when I want my lashes to be really visible, almost with a false lash look, without actually having to apply false lashes. It is my Holy Grail, for sure. However, I wouldn't use it on a daily basis, just because it is too dramatic for that. Will repurchase, obviously!

GOOD SHADE OF BLACK VERY PIGMENTED - SMUDGES IF NOT DRIED PROPERLY AND IF YOU APPLY MULTIPLE COATS OF MASCARA AT ONE - MORE LENGTHENING THAN VOLUMISING - PEOPLE MISTAKEN FOR FALSIES WHEN WORN ALONE AND WITH LANCOME HYPNOSE DRAMA . SLIGHT ROSY SMELL A LITTLE ANNOYING AND IRRITATING TO MY SUPER SENSITIVE EYES. DEFINITELY WORTH TRYING - CHEAP KIND OF PACKAGING TACKY LOOKING.

Some years ago I tried the regular Ysl mascara effect faux cils and I really liked it. It gave me fabulous lashes, long and quite flirty. So I thought this one should be even better and I decided to give it a try.
When I was at the counter I was impressed by the colour of this product. It gave me the best black shining lashes ever and I got it. But at the end of the day I was so disappointed. I had bad raccoon eyes because it's true: this mascara smudges like crazy. When I tried to remove it from my eyes I couldn't do it completely, because, although I have a very good make up remover, it looked like the mascara was stuck around my lids and inside my eyes. All the operation hurt like hell!!
My opinion is, if you don't mind showing big black smokey eyes and you have enough time to spend for washing up your face, try it. But be careful if you wear contact lenses. You could have a bad allergic reaction!

It is a bit clumpy, but I do like how it makes my lashes look like fake eyelashes. I have sparse, straight pointing downward lashes, and this mascara keeps the curl really well. I would give this FIVE STARS if it didn’t smudge like crazy. I had bought this in duty free on my way to the Philippines, and let me tell u this mascara SMUDGES like crazy.
I really like this mascara, and wish it didn’t smudge so much. I read that this is different from the other Faux cils YSL mascaras? So if I got the other black mascara instead of the radical noir, will it smudge as badly as this one?

Hate. Strong words, but this is great dislike. First, it is clumpy. I had used the original a number of years ago and wanted to try again, but had asked for a very dark black. This is what the SA gave me. I knew the scent and was okay with it. Packaging, okay. Brush, thick, but had used previously. Secondly, taking this off was a pain in the bum! I used make up remover. Washed my face, and had to use more remover, because I still had this crap streaming down my cheek. It was horrible! When i put this on it burned my eyes! Now, I am not marking it down for that, because of my sensitivity. But, I did have to take it back. I exchanged for Eyes to Kill-the new formula. I will review that one later....

i wasnt impressed with this mascara. the formula is very wet, so it made my lashes clump like crazy. i could only stand using it after i let it dry out for month which i think i shouldnt have to do due to the price tag and brand prestige. after i let it dry out it performed like it should, i got volume with intense blackness. the scent is very pleasant, like roses. however this mascara transfers under my eyes. i wont repurchase, MUF smokey lash performed much better even though it does dry out quicker.

This one holds all the qualifications I look for in a mascara: long-lasting, non-clumping, volumizing, separating... the list goes on. It really is the blackest black I've seen and the quality is far superior than the other ones I've tried, I do look like I'm wearing falsies. I used to be a fan of the Diorshow mascaras but this Faux Cils gives me what I want and then some more : ) I shamelessly converted to YSL!

I am so in love with this mascara! This has reached HG status for me. I've been searching for the perfect mascara since I started wearing make-up. I'd read about YSL's Faux Cils before, but I was put off by the fact that many people were comparing it to Dior Show (a mascara with which I was not at all impressed), so I held off from purchasing it for quite some time. A couple of weeks ago, still unimpressed by all of the mascaras that I had tried, I finally decided to give this a try. And I am so glad I did! I love it! It makes my lashes look so long! I have pretty thick lashes, so I don't really need any volumizing, but this mascara plumps them up nevertheless. I've seen a number of people mentioning smudging, but I haven't had a problem with this (I also never wear mascara on my lower lashes, so that may be a reason that I haven't had problems). I also have not had any issues with clumping, which was one (among many) of my big problems with Dior Show. I just cannot get over the difference in my lashes. And they feel and look soft, too. There's none of that jagged, spidery look that lashes can sometimes get with certain mascaras. I'm thrilled! If you've been disappointed by the other big name mascaras with good reputations, try this!

This mascara is TERRIBLE.
Now, it functions just as good as the original YSL mascara, however, it smudges like CRAZY. Like, it would smudge everywhere within a few minutes of application.
Another bad thing about this mascara is that it's a PAIN to remove/take off.
I would remove it with an eye makeup remover, wash my face, and there will be a huge residue of mascara under my eyes !!
And even after I remove this residue with eye makeup remover AGAIN, sleep and wake up the next day, I will get just as bad of a residue.
And this continues for a good 2 to 3 days.
Constantly having to remove the residue which is NOT normal especially for a mascara this expensive.
Never going to purchase this mascara again.

Ok i've been through like 3 tubes now and have literally ordered another 5 because i found it for a great price on ebay :D £21.50 is crazy for a mascara which lasts me 3 weeks tops! Even so i love this stuff, seriously gives me amazing lashes they look super dark and super thick. My lashes are long and curly anyways I always get compliments on them, but this mascara just makes them like unavoidable lol. Sadly this baby smudges in humid conditions so it's not best for summer I reccomend Lancome Hypnose for that! But the look this gives me just out weighs the cons for me, I prefer this version over the original too which I don't think gives me enough volume like this does, trust me I'm really fussy over finding the perfect mascara! Other peoples definition of volume is different to mine i mean like hmm.. benefit badgal lash it didn't give me zilch yet other people have had much better experiences with it! Eniways the noir radical is not perfect, it's a messy job taking it off i use one wipe to take it off my eyes and another wipe to take the rest of my make up off! this mascara and Lancome Hypnose Onyx Black are definetly are my HGs, i get bored so easily so i'm always switching it up.Enough of my waffling sorry lol.

There is obviously a lot of hype around this mascara, and I can see why, but I don't think I'd purchase it again. It does give a really "fake lashes" kind of look, and the noir radical is the blackest black I can imagine. However, I found this mascara kind of goopy and nearly impossible to take off. I liked it for a night out, but for the day it is just way too much for my taste. I also prefer BadGal or Chanel Inimitable because I feel they give the same look but have less gooey formulas. That being said, I have dark lashes that are pretty long already so my needs are different from a lot of people and I also prefer a more natural look. I think my biggest problem with this product is how hard it is to get off. Seriously it took my like 8 cotton pads soaked in oil based eye makeup remover to get it off. But, like I said, if you're looking for dramatic lashes this will definitely do the trick. The packaging is really pretty, but I found that it didn't shut tightly enough. I think part of the problem I had with this was because it didn't close tightly enough and dried out, hence the goop haha. Also this is pretty pricey, I think it was around $30, so for that $ I'd rather buy inimitable.

The regular Volume Effet Faux Cils is as close to a HG as mascara gets. The Noir Radical, however, is not the same product and was immediately returned. Like other reviewers, I found it clumpy and it gave me terrible racoon eyes. YSL take note: If it ain't broke, why fix it?

This is the best mascara ever! After hearing a lot of positive review's about this product, I decided to go out and purchase it and see what the hype was all about!
I have to say, it was definitely worth the money! This is the best mascara for any person with short lashes such as myself and it created so much of a dramatic effect and it lengthens to the point where I don't need false lashes.
However, on the downside, it does tend to clump just a little bit after using it a lot.
But I would definitely recommend this product anytime!

I'm really disappointed with this product. While it does make your lashes appear thicker and darker, it just kind of sits on your lashes like a heavy coating. Plus it is a nightmare to take off -- I have to go over my eyes at least 3-4 times with eye makeup remover to get it off. I like the original version better.

FIrst, I tried this in the store and it was very thick and luxurious. After I purchased it right then. When I came home, the mascara was thinner than the tester. It was not as thick and black as the tester and I had to put a ton of coats on and still it wasn't anywhere near as thickening and volumizing as the tester. Obviously, they changed the formula. Next, I found that as soon as I put a coat of mascara on, it dried so fast, I was having a hard time applying a second coat because my lashes were so stiff. This didn't happen with the tester either. In about two hours, the mascara has smeared all over my top lashes and all over the bottom. I was shocked. A cheap mascara doesn't do this. I tried it once, and it's being returned today. This is outrageous for a $30 mascara.
My MAYBELLINE, GLAM BLACK, COLOSSAL Mascara is blacker and does smear at all. I get compliments everytime I wear this. I have always used YSL Mascaras. I am shocked by the poor quality they now have and the outrageous price.

I have a love/hate relationship with this one. Tbh, I bought it because I was seduced by the beautiful gold packaging and the hype surrounding it and at first it delivered results! I'm asian so i have dead straight short lashes, and this mascara gave me long, volumized, blacker than black lashes. It never went onto my lashes clumpy but ohmygod! after using it a few times the brush would be sooooo clumpy everytime i pulled it out of the tube. There would be an overload excess of mascara clumped onto the wand and everytime, i would have to scrape it off. The mascara was very wet for me also, and once it was on my lashes, I pretty much would get some on my eyes as it dries slow. Overall, i do love how it makes my lashes look but i really hate how clumpy the wand gets which is REALLY messy, and for £21.50 i don't expect to be scraping the excess off the wand, so i don't think i'll be repurchasing.

I could not wait to try this. I used to love the original Faux Cils in black but stopped using it due to the fact that it dries out so quickly. I saw this presented on QVC and the fact that the color was so rich and so super black, I had to try out this mascara again. It was very expensive at $30 a tube. I fell in love with this mascara the first time I wore it. My results were super dark, longer, and slightly thicker lashes. Very dramatic! I even received compliments on my lashes due to this mascara! Seems perfect right? Nope! After using this daily for about a month, this started to dry out and become super clumpy on my lashes. This is a wet formula to begin with, so once it gets thick & goopy, your lashes become clumpy. I tried everything I could: run the tube under warm water, wipe the mascara brush, use a lash comb, etc. I just could not get the same results as I did in the beginning. Towards the end, this stared to smudge on me as well. If this was a drugstore mascara, I wouldn't mind constantly replacing (since the results were amazing). But at $30 a pop, I just can't justify replacing each month. I ran into the same trouble a few years back. I really was hoping YSL improved the lasting power in the tube, but I guess not yet :( continued >>
