This has to be one of the best moisturizers in the country, if not the world, for the price point. ($13.99). Thank you Paula Begoun/Beautypedia for the recommendation! This is fragrance-free and has nice ingredients for a drugstore brand. It soothes my dry, sensitive skin. It hydrates beautifully yet lightly. It wears well under foundation during the day or with a serum at night.
This product isn't anything flashy, or trendy but it sure does work well. I just find that this moisturizer ticks all the check boxes I can think of that make up a great product for me. Lasts a super long time, so don't worry about the extra money you might be throwing down. It is an investment. I have been using this PM moisturizer day and night for about a year and it is light, and it moisturizes my skin well without being oily or greasy. The pump dispenses a perfect amount for the face, and I use a second pump for my neck. There is no fragrance so it is also ideal for my sensitive skin. It does not contain sunscreen, but my daily mineral powder does, so I like that I'm not doubling up SPFs which I've heard will cancel out any sun protection. I wake up to a nice healthy, and somewhat glowy looking complexion, which really is all that anyone could want from their moisturizer, right?
I wanted to like this product due to all the raves in skincare board, but this gave me clogged pores. I have acne prone, sensitive, hormonal dry skin and picked up this product in hopes that it would help with winter dryness. It did moisturize my skin, but in a few days I noticed clogged pores all over my face. I'm not sure which ingredient it was, but I did run the ingredients through cosdna and there are a few that may have contributed. Could be the cetearyl alcohol. Definitely patch test this before you use it all over your face.
If you are trying to decide between CeraVe moisturizers, you may have noticed that the PM is in a much smaller container while selling for the same price as the pump containers, making this a more expensive choice. The reason for that is because this contains niacinamide and that is the key difference compared to the Moisturizing Lotion. Niacinamide is supposed to help fade post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (those purplish "scars" you get on your skin). Niacinamide is also an effective moisturizer, and can actually help your skin produce more ceramides and fatty acids, which are crucial components of your skin barrier. As that barrier is strengthened, skin is better able to keep moisture in and irritants out.
Compared to the moisturizing lotion, this appears to be slightly more of a gel consistancy but the difference is almost imperceptible. It absorbs so quickly and doesn't leave any shine. The PM lotion may be a more "sophisiticated" skin care product compared to the moisurizing lotion and is probably worth the extra money due to the extra benefits of niacinamide.
I'm almost hesitant to write that I think this may have made me break out. I almost never blame a product for that, and it seems especially unlikely since I was using my other CeraVe moisturizer for about a month before I tried this with no problems. But I broke out in unusual places like my cheek. It may have been random or it may have been this. In any case it doesn't seem to be an ongoing problem.
I've been on a natural skincare kick for quite a while, but my facial skin dried up in late November when the weather changed, despite using things like coconut oil, cocoa butter, vitamin E, etc. My skin was so dry it was flaking and tiny fine lines were appearing in places I'd never seen them. By mid February I was desperate enough to use Vaseline but it was too messy to use all over, especially in the morning, and still didn't seem to be enough. Then I decided to try Cerave. I wasn't happy with the ingredients like parabens, but they are very low on the ingredient list and I was ready to try the lotion that had so many rave reviews.
The texture is like what others describe - a gel/serum/light lotion. The pump dispenser is nice. No fragrance and no irritation. Because of the lotion's light feel, I found myself reapplying now and then to my dry skin -morning, night and in between, rather than just in the evening. With the cold, dry weather, I use a tiny bit of Vaseline to "seal" the Cerave lotion around my eyes twice daily. At night I use a tiny amount of Vaseline all over my face, lightly patted on top of the Cerave. I use Dove sensitive skin bar to cleanse at night.
The only thing I want to warn about is that in my case, I did have a few pimples during the first week of use. They were small and not numerous, but in places I don't normally break out on my face, so I think there was some kind of purging going on. They cleared up in little over a week.
I didn't think the Cerave was going to cut it in this cold, dry weather, but after a week, I felt the difference. My skin seemed to change for the better. It's been a week and a half and I already feel I will use this lotion for the rest of my life. Here are the changes:
My skin feels softer, smoother. The barrier seems healed, like it's actually healthier rather than just temporarily wet from lotion. It feels comfortable, instead of dry and tight. Skin looks plump and some fine lines diminished. One of the best things is that the niacinamide has helped reduce discoloration from old pimples and other discoloration. Face looks much more even, brighter and glowy. This is just from a week and a half of use. If this progress continues, then at some point I may get to where I don't even need much foundation or concealer, if any.
I switched to this product after seeing good reviews on the Paula's Choice website. Before this, I was using Clean & Clear's dual action moisturizer. This is what I observed after a month of use.
-quickly absorbs into the skin
-pore clogging; noticed blackheads that I did not have before switching to this moisturizer.
-not matte; leaves my skin looking shiny
-leaves my oily skin feeling greasy
I would recommend this to people that do not have oily or acne-prone skin.
I will not be repurchasing and will be looking for another moisturizer to replace this one once I use up the bottle.
I have tested many face lotions, and this one is the best. Though it's supposed to be for normal to oily skin, it works beautifully on my dry to normal skin, which is starting to be a lot more supple and moisturized. It's a gel like texture that sinks very quickly into the skin. You can even layer it a bit more where you think you need a bit more moisture, for exemple underneath the eyes. The skins feels moisturized, but never greasy.
It simplified my regimen a lot since I'm using it. I use way less products than before. Not only you can use it everywhere on the face without a problem, but it goes well with a serum underneath and seem to amplify it. This product simply got a lot of good points :
- it's packed full of powerful stuff : 3 kinds of ceramides, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, perfect for restoring skin, moisturizing it and make post inflammatory hyperpigmentation disappear faster
- it's unscented, so it minimize the risks of allergy. If you have like me a very sensitive skin, you want this.
- The pump is very precise and allows for using just a tiny bit of the product, perfect for layering a bit more on places
- It goes well with a serum underneath
- You get 89 ml for a very reasonable price, so it lasts longer and is cheaper than most other creams and lotions
- Does not ever overgrease your face. You get moisturized for a long time.
Though I have nothing to say but good things about it, be careful since this product contains cetearyl alcool, which can be clogging for some. Never forget to patch test a new product before using it !
This moisturizer does not disappoint! My skin is sensitive and doesn't tolerate a lot of moisturizers but this never irritates my skin and I have never experienced any breakouts from this. I use this morning and night and this keeps my dry bits moisturized all day and doesn't leave my t zone looking shiny. Feels lightweight, leaning more to a gel than a lotion. Wears well under makeup. It also has some great ingredients for a drugstore moisturizer. This holds up to any of the high end moisturizers I have previously purchased.
Good and convenient packaging. This is a nice moisturizer for night time only if you have oily skin. It can appear a little greasy when applied, but then again I apply a liberal amount. My skin feels nice and moisturized when I wake up in the morning.
My skin is finicky but loves this moisturizer.
I use this product at night after I have applied any treatments. It is non-greasy; in fact, it's more of a gel or serum than a cream in texture.
Plus, the moisturizer sinks in and doesn't feel like it is "sitting" on your skin, it's fragrance-free, and I like the pump dispenser (one pump is a good amount for the entire face/neck).
I highly recommend it for other sensitive folks or most anyone looking for a basic, inexpensive moisturizer with ceramides, niacinamide or hyaluronic acid.
