I use this with the Shampure shampoo because I need a little more of a conditioning effect than the Shampure conditioner offered.
The scent on this reminds me of an air freshener my sister uses in her apartment. It's not unpleasant, but not the herbal scent that I've come to enjoy from Aveda's products.
This conditioner is on the thin side, but does condition very well. My hair is below hip length and very straight, and it feels quite silky after it's dried.
This product is also ridiculously expensive. $67.50 for a large bottle? I treated myself after finishing a very tough semester, but it was tough to see that on the receipt. I think I'll try another product when this bottle runs out.

I reviewed the shampoo and I feel the same about the conditioner, nice herby smell but not moisturising enough for my dry & coloured hair type. I won't repurchase. continued >>

I don't really like this conditioner much at all. I have chemichally treated, but pretty healthy hair so I don't need a very rich conditioner for everyday use. I don't think it really does anything for my hair, and I expected more from the reviews here. My hair does'nt feel soft or shiny and it's probably the only conditioner I know of which does'nt do that. But the worst thing is the smell...I hate it, it smells like a bad christmas-scented candle and when I sleep with my hair next to my face I almost can't sleep.

I use this with the shampoo and other Aveda products. Its a great conditioner and leaves my hair feeling really soft and volumous. I only use this on the tips of my hair as per my hairdresser's instructions and I believe this helps with the prevention of split ends especially when I heat style my hair on an almost daily basis.

I used this with the Brilliant shampoo and it left my hair very shiny and bouncy, and pretty thick and voluminous. What I didn't like was the consistency, it doesn't really adhere to your hair. I found that it kept falling off like jello, and I really had to mash it into my strands. This was not only annoying but risky to use because some just fell off during application and down the drain. You don't get a huge tube for the price and you could easily achieve the same results with other conditioners out there.

Not as good as the shampoo, this is an ultralight conditioner which wouldn't really cut it alone. As long as you alternate with a good deep-condish, it it the best smelling detangler ever. Horrendously expensive here (27 euro) but I love the smell.

Love it!! I use it several times a week, along with the matching shampoo. Nice, enlivening scent that helps wake me up. Does a good conditioning job. Only complaint is the packaging... hard to get the last of it out of the tube.

I've used this for years and keep going back to it after I get the urge to try somehting new. This one never fails. Does not weigh hair down and smells great. Hair seems way more managable!

Really nice medium weight conditioner. I don't find it too heavy, just the right amount. Really makes my hair feel moisturized and healthy. My hair feels very soft and has shine from using this conditioner. Love the scent as well!

I have curly *extremely* fine bi-racial hair that I'm trying to take better care of. I've tried ALL of the drugstore brands including some of the salon-to-drugstore brands(Nexxus) and have been coming back to the Aveda Brilliant line when I just want my hair to feel moisturized and healthy. Period.

It's interesting to read all the various reviews - some find it too heavy, some find it too light. I find this conditioner to be just plain good. My hair doesn't feel coated or heavy, nor does it feel dry and fly away. It feels smooth & soft and has a healthy shine to it. I always notice the difference when I try other products. My hair just doesn't feel as healthy and happy as when I use the Aveda.

I often use this as a leave-in as well, sometimes mixed with a bit of virgin coconut oil when my hair is extra dry.

I gave the Brilliant Conditioner 4 stars instead of 5 for 2 reasons -
1)The smell. While I like it some days, on others it's overwhelming and unpleasant. Sometimes I just want to smell clean. Or like fruit. lol But none of my "fruity" or "soapy" smelling hair products work as well as the Aveda so I tolerate it.
2)The price. It's true you get what you pay for and this is well worth the cost, but I still wish it weren't so expensive. :-/

Will repurchase when I run out, but I bought the giant litre jug with the pump, so that won't be for a long time. continued >>

Wonderful medium-weight conditioner that leaves my hair soft and shiny, plus no breakout. Love the sandalwood smell too. I only apply a tiny amount on the ends.

This conditioner does not feel as though it does one thing for my hair. My hair feels and behaves exactly the same way on days when I use it and days when I do not. Also, it has a very strong almost woodsy scent. I love the tube/bottle design, and I wish all thickish conditioners were sold this way, but I will not be rebuying.

Great overall daily conditioner! Perfect for my straight blonde hair. The shopgirl said that it is a very, heavy rich moisturizer. She was wrong. It's just a great everyday moisturizing conditioner.

UPDATE (2012-02-17): BOYCOTTING RE. CURRENT ANIMAL TESTING FOR CHINESE MARKET
(Updated 2010) Nope. Irritation on skin (neck, back, bits of face) when rinsing this off. I'm leaving the old review up, for more normal skin conditions...
(Several updates later... 09/2008 through 12/2009): OK, I admit defeat. My hair loves this and the matching shampoo. Resistance is futile.
Great low-cone conditioner on this hair - fine but thick, mixed wavy and straight (i.e. some bits are the one and others are t'other), and currently shoulder-length. Never coloured or otherwise treated. I have used this conditioner for about two years, along with the matching shampoo, on the advice of my hairdresser. The Brilliant conditioner is one of the best I have ever used. Its smell is a particular draw: rose, black pepper, green tea (possibly a touch of black tea in the conditioner, the shampoo's greener), jasmine, and ylang ylang.
It's an odd creature, as it works well, in different ways, on quite different sorts of hair. You'll see reviews here from an extraordinary range. The Brilliant range is targeted at "textured and treated" hair: this translates as being mild (so OK on dyed etc. hair), but smoothing and glossing (good on wavy to curly hair), and detangling whilst being light.
On this particular hair, it works very well and fast, leaving hair lovely and shiny, sleek, and smelling scrumptious. On thicker and/or coarser hair, can be left on for a minute or two. On finer (but thick, i.e. many-stranded and densely growing) hair, simply distribute through the hair and rinse out immediately. Probably not recommended on fine thin hair. Leaves hair smooth, no tangles, shiny. Most of this is plant oils, though there is a touch of the 'cone (cetyl dimethicone at no. 10 - NB one of the lighter ones that rinses out well, and way less of it than in many "even greener" brands).
Brilliant by name, brilliant by nature. Tip: try out the travel sample; that should last you at least a week (a little of this stuff goes a long way). The litre bottle lasted me over a year, washing my hair daily. So that's 1 litre for about 18 months; currently at $56 in the US (but the Aveda site doesn't ship abroad) or EUR 64; so about $3/EUR 3.50 per month. I think this would pass my mother's "beware false economy" test.
It is considerably cheaper in the US. On moving back to Europe, I tried to give it up, and ended up spending a fortune on lesser conditioners. Some of which were more expensive than this. High-silicone ones - hair got flat. Good results with some of the completely cone-free conditioners, although they're heavier than the Brilliant so being kept for weekly and/or swimming deep conditioning.
The Brilliant is more of a detangler than a conditioner / re-moisturiser proper, in that it doesn't deposit loads of stuff on the hair. Can certainly be recommended for average hair, that isn't treated or styled, dried, etc., and thus has simpler needs. Any other hair may need "more" in its products, more stuff to be deposited on the hair itself, and more products. But this is the joy of MUA and its boards - somewhere, here, your perfect potions are waiting for you!
INGREDIENTS: Aqueous extracts: chamomile flower extract, calendula/marigold flower extract, aloe barbadensis leaf, camellia oleifera (green tea) leaf extract, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, dipalmitoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium methosulfate, behentrimonium methosulfate, cetyl dimethicone, meadowfoam seed oil, dicaprylyl maleate, jojoba seed oil, babassu seed oil, shea butter extract, oat kernel extract, rice bran oryzanol, tocopherol, distearyldimonium chloride, cetrimonium chloride, cetyl hydroxyethylcellulose, fragrance, limonene, eugenol, linalool, hydroxycitronellal, geraniol, citronellol, maltodextrin, sodium gluconate, phenoxyethanol. continued >>

I just purchased this product 3 days ago under the notion from the in-store Aveda consultant that it was the best moisturizing conditioner that Aveda makes. The guy has highly textured hair so I figured it if works for him personally, it would be just what I needed (and so far everything he was suggesting and putting in my hair I liked). Unfortunately just as I expected it really did nothing for my hair at all. I think I literally heard my hair snicker as I put this in after a shampoo with their Sap Moss :-). My hair is very porous and demands more moisture than this conditioner could ever offer so it will be on it's way back to the store as of tomorrow morning including the Sap Moss shampoo (which is supposed to be moisturizing as well).
The consistency is light and slippery, but it is too lightweight and doesn't absorb in my hair or help detangling which are key points I look for in a staple conditioner. The smell isn't lovable either and stays true to their highly herbal fragrance in all their products (some are soothing and grown on you with an aromatherapy effect, and other are just plain bitter and foul smelling). As a daily conditioner for FINE and NORMAL hair (no damage or moisture issues) this would work great. But if you have more specific hair needs this conditioner will do nothing for you. Not even decent as a leave in.

I think this is better than the matching shampoo but is not great. I have long highlighted hair and although it did add some shine it make the texture harsh. I was disappointed as expected a lot and paid a fair amount!

I have asian (thick/coarse) hair and unfortunately, this conditioner is not moisturizing enough for me. I like the shampoo but I find that my hair is in tangles unless I use a substantial amount and let it sit for at least 5 minutes. At this rate, I'll run out of this conditioner super fast. I also notice that when I am blow drying my hair straight with a round brush, my brush gets stuck a lot. I will keep using the shampoo b/c I love the scent but perhaps the conditioner is meant for people who have finer hair. One other pet peeve I have is that the shampoo comes in a bottle but the conditioner comes in a tube.

I think it's ridiculous that the Billiant is designed for thick/treated hair for added moisture and shine. The shampoo dried out my hair and the conditioner did nothing to condition. Before the Damage Remedy came out, this was supposed to be one of the most moisturizing conditioners, however, it's just not thick and nourishing enough. It did nothing but made my hair more coarse.
