This is a great matte shade of black. It applies very smoothly, but you have to work quickly or else it might dry as you are applying it. I did not use a base coat, and did 3 coats to get it perfect. On me, it lasted two days before I took it off, and it was without any chipping and only minor tip wear. It's a little on the expensive side. I bought this before I heard of Essie Matte About You top coat (which turns any polish matte), so if you want to experiment with matte polishes, I would recommend putting Essie Matte About You top coat over your regular black nail polish. You would get basically the same look at a lower price.
General Description-
Basic black polish that dries matte.
I saw on Kim Kardashian's website she had done a matte black manicure with top coat just over the tips, and I said I needed to have this color. I did some internet searching and found one- Sephora by OPI - great! I had been wanting to try the line anyway..
Well, I had my nails done on Thursday for my birthday, and by today (Saturday) I had to do them again. The problems I found were 1. even with top coat (on the tips) it still chipped very fast, which is unusual for anything with OPI's name on it, and 2. the matte effect does not last for very long at all. I started noticing even yesterday that my nails were slowly becoming shiny, which looked a bit awkward like I was wearing a really dull regular black. Totally defeated the purpose of spending 9$ on a "matte" nail polish..
The good news however, is that this polish dries extremely fast. I just painted my nails not even 5 minutes before starting this review and they were dry instantly! Great for on the go touch ups. When you apply this color, it is MATTE, beautiful and better than expected. I received so many comments and questions about the color.
Would I buy this again? probably not, unless they improve the formula. I do love the matte idea, but this polish requires a lot of maintenance to keep it looking as good as it does when freshly
I have uploaded a photo under product images, please excuse the poor quality, but I hope you can still get the idea of what it looks like (with clear top coat on the tips)
