Ok, so let me start by saying I'm a guy and so skincare isn't something that's a huge priority on my list. I don't use a toner, etc. I use Neutrogena Acne Wash on my face maybe once a week and my acne breakouts are extremely rare at my age. This is all probably because I had horrible, painful acne as a teen that finally tapered off after years of antibiotics for cystic acne and millions of tubes of Proactive. Needless to say, I stopped really worrying with my skin and haven't really ever looked back. Because of that, I've had a tub of this stuff for two years and I use it maybe twice a month with great results. I usually throw it on thick, relax, then hop in a steamy shower to rinse it off. My skin is combination/oily and this stuff does an amazing job cleaning and tightening! I have blackheads and this helps reduce them where they're manageable and not really noticeable by me. The packaging is amazing and my tub is fresh and strong just as the day I bought it. I get that everything has a shelf life, and I plan to replace mine soon even though it has about a third left. For people who are looking for an easy skincare routine, I highly recommend adding this stuff in. I, like others who reviewed the product, also use it as a spot treatment when I "feel" or sense a zit or pimple coming on. I would pay double for this product because it simply is that amazing. I also love the smell on my skin. I feel so clean!
I love this mask :) it's the first kiehls product that I've tried and I got to say it's amazing
This mask is made for people with oily skin and big pores, but I can say it can be used for people that wants cleaner less dull looking skin.
The mask is a grayish thick cream, the smell is like volcanic clay, a little bit harsh on the nose, but not entirely unpleasant. It spreads very well on the face, afterwards leave it for 10 minutes, there might be some slight stinging tingling hot sensation, after that you can wipe it with a towel or wash it away, usually I washed it away, it comes off easily under water.
You'll notice that the skin will look smoother, less visible pores, more radiant and less dull than before, I can't say it reduces blackheads or whiteheads but after this mask it's easier to squeeze the blackheads/whiteheads away (using clean hands of course). And on the next morning my skin felt bouncy, smooth and looked more radiant than before the mask!
It doesn't cause any breakouts or any allergic/inflammatory reaction on my skin so far.
So thumbs up for this mask for it's benefit(s) and its value for money, in my country it's 30 $ for a 142 gr tub. I use this once a week and it has been 3 months and I barely made a dent :p the only downside it's in a tub form so make sure you use spatula ora always use clean hands so the product lasts longer :) hope this helps
Makes my skin feel extremely radiant, clean and refreshed after every use!!! I love the way it makes my skin feel a kind of light burning sensation, perhaps due to the detoxing, and the very obviously less visible pores on my face!!
I put on a thin layer on lightly damped clean skin and wait for it to dry, then wipe it off gently with a warm towel. No need to wash after that!
Adore this very much but I just wish I had more discipline to do masks :p
I am so thrilled I tried this mask. While I love Kiehl's and have used many of their products for years, it's often hit or miss. Well, this is a major hit and has become a staple in my skincare arsenal. I have combination skin, and bought this to help shrink my pores, remove dead skin, and give me a glow. It delivered on all three, and then some. Unlike many other masks I've tried, it's super easy to wash off with a warm washcloth (no harsh scrubbing required) and leaves my pores tighter while my skin looks absolutely radiant. I use it twice a week, and it even prevents a pimple when one attempts to form. I'll see some redness and panic, use the mask, and it's gone by morning. Miraculous. And the price?! I'd pay twice as much for this mask. It's that good.
Pores become smaller, and my skin feels less oily. At the first usages, skin will be very oily, it take out the exceed sebum but after that, the skin feel very less oily.
This mask makes my pores seem smaller, skin less oily, and overall softer. It's also not as harsh/stinging as Clinique's Acne Solutions Oil Control Cleansing Mask. However, I haven't tried enough different clay masks to know whether this is truly a special product.
The Kiehl's mask does exactly what I expect my mud masks to do - it 'cleans' my skin, removing impurities, making blackheads looks smaller, etc.
Effect on skin: I've tried lots of mud masks, and I'm actually pretty happy with this one. Out of all the mud masks I've tried, this one makes my skin feel SUPER clean (that feeling that you got all the extra oil, make up residue, pollution, and 'gunk' out). I usually use a cleanser, exfoliate, and then apply the mask with my finger tips. The directions say to use a thin layer, but I like my mud masks a little heavier - so I apply a thicker layer and let it sit on my skin for ~30 minutes. Sometimes I follow this mask by a moisturizing mask (SKII Facial Treatment) for a spa day. Even when used without a moisturizing mask, the Kiehl's mask has never dried my skin and I have normal skin, leaning on dry at times. Of course after using a mud mask I'd always advise on using a heavier moisturizer. I recently moved to a very hot and humid climate and using this about 2 times a week has really helped my skin. After time and with regular usage, I can see that my skin feels smoother, less congested. I have never struggled with acne, but my fiancé claims that using this mask as a spot treatment helps shrink down his breakouts.
Packaging: I actually enjoy this container versus the squeeze tubes when it comes to mud masks because the product does not dry out. It's simple, basic Kiehl's packaging. Nothing too fancy, but doesn't look atrocious in your bathroom.
Overall, I really like it. The price and the quantity you get are great and the mask works consistently well on my skin. I'm not sure if I'll repurchase if/when I run out because I love trying out new skin care. :)
Very good for an end of the week detox. Skin is smoother and pores are smaller.
Much as I LOOOOOVE Brazilian stuff, this one really let me down. It did the opposite of what it claims despite its status as a "cult favourite". It gave me one of the worst breakouts I have ever had and my pores look even bigger now. Also, within five minutes of application I started to feel a stinging sensation all over my face.
So right now, I'm still paying for my curiosity with this product and I have a lot of fixing to do. Tsk. Lesson learned.
Not entirely swearing off Kiehls products though, since they have other good stuff; this one just isn't one of them, in my opinion.
Bottom line: Use with precaution and take its "cult status" with a grain of salt.
