I tried a small tube of acne medicine that had Benzoyl peroxide in it. I thought since it seemed to be helping that I could use a face wash with Benzoyl peroxide in it. I was wrong. This didn't help my acne and made it worse. I didn't think that could happen.
I have since switched back to Shea-Moisture Organic African Black Soap and the acne is gone.
This stuff is amazing! I was very excited to see this percentage in the drugstore, because I have gotten a prescription for this amount of benzyl peroxide before. This is a bargain compared to that.
I have very oily and acne prone skin. It has cleared up my skin and controlled the oil. The benzyl peroxide has also lightened up my post acne marks as well. I use this face wash once a day at night following my usual cleansing routine. I noticed it works a lot better when you apply it to a dry clean face and leave it on for a minute or two than rinse. I like the creaminess and texture of the product, as well as the packaging.
I didn't give it 5 stars because it didn't work on my boyfriend, and it actually made his sensitive skin worse.
I'd definitely try it out if you are suffering from acne.
It worked really well AT FIRST, but after 2 weeks its quit working my face went back to normal and it made my skin pretty dry. I wont purchase this again.
I can't believe I'm writing a positive review for a drugstore acne product but it's true! It really does work. So first off I have fairly oily skin with moderate acne, not the worst but certainly not the best (couldn't get on accutane even though I tried my damn hardest, if that gives you an idea), and quite sensitive to make up and skin products. I usually have at least two cysts and a couple of white heads at all times, with periods of it being REALLY bad.
I've been using this at night time for about 3ish weeks and it really is great. I have less than half of the usual white heads I usually do and I've only gotten ONE small cyst which is amazing for me considering I usually have at least 3 at a time. My forehead is totally clear (ugh I hope I didn't just jinx it haha) which is unheard of for me since I have an oily T-zone. It's been helping with my chin, a major problem area, and drying out pimples there quickly. It hasn't completely gotten rid of my acne (I don't think anything really will until you just grow out of it or take accutane) but this has certainly helped control it!
It's quite drying so I suggest starting out using it once every 3 days, then 2 days, then eventually to every day. I think once I run out of my other benzoyl peroxide wash (Neutrogena Clear Pore cleanser/mask) I'm gonna try using PanOxyl twice a day and see how it goes.
Oh! I forgot to mention that I leave the face wash on for a few minutes. I massage it in for about two minutes (keep your eyes open to avoid getting the wash around there, it stings!) then do my whole teeth cleaning routine then wash off the PanOxyl. I think this really the key to any acne face wash, letting it soak in and kill the bacteria for a bit.
Stopped working a little bit after I wrote this review. Has a horrible break out (related to hormones, not this) and this did very little to help. Down to 1 star. I'm gonna finish up the tube then try Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil face wash.
I have only been using this product for three days or so, but I have not has new pimple since. It has taken care of a preexisting breakout and seems to do a decent job and preventing new pimples from emerging. I leave this stuff on for roughly 30-40 seconds, and follow up with 2.5% acne.org BP then moisturize. Seems to be working well for now, and I hope things only continue to get better. Before using 2.5% acne.org BP I had roughly 60 pimples, which included cysts and pustules and everything you can think of. The BP keeps me 85% clear during the summer and I needed to find something extra, and this wash has helped with the last 15%. I use it twice a day, with about a pea sized amount on my entire face, staying clear of lips and area around the eyes. Costs ~12$ give or take.
Can be very drying, but skin get used to it after time
Clear existing breakouts faster
Prevents formation of new actives
If you have an oily t-zone this helps a lot
I will update in about another week to make sure you al have the latest news, nevertheless please try this product!
10/10 (so far)
UPDATE: So it has been about a week using this product. The new verdict: STILL WORKS. I have not gotten any actives since I started using this wash. I have found that using a natural oil i.e. olive, almond, coconut, and so on work so much better that lotions and creams after cleansing the face with panoxyl. Your face does not stay oily, but it balances because of the drying capabilities this product has.
This product is definitely something to try. And will let forever because you only need a pea sized amount or less!
THREE WEEK UPDATE:
I Still do not have active acne. This stuff has saved my face honestly. I adore it. Please Please make sure you moisturize very well after using it. I use macadamia nut oil and works well. I wish more people knew about this product! This is why I wanted to update how things are going from time to time to make sure you all get the best review :) See you in another three weeks!
Honestly I have been trying SO hard to love this product. I read all the reviews on here and was so excited to try this out. I started off with a little acne, nothing severe, but just wanted to get completely clear. The first 5 to 6 days were really bad and I broke out in huge zits I never usually would get. On top of that my face was so dry and flaky. I've been using this product for over two weeks and I'm finally giving up. My face isn't as broken out right now but it is extremely dry, even though I've been moisturizing every morning and night, and just looks overall unhealthy. I'm very upset and wish my skin was how it was before I started using this product.
I have been using Panoxyl bar for 5 years. Never had any issue with it. Since they don't carry Panoxyl Bar anymore, I thought I would give this a try. I don't even know where to start from. I used this for 2 days ( 1 x per day). It made my skin so dry, flaky, itchy, red and broke me into bumps all over my face. My face is currently recovering from dryness and all the break outs it caused. Hopefully they will bring the bar back soon!
-felt like it was working at first
-got rid of a little acne, but not even 1/3 of it
-dried my skin out
-caused my dry spots to flake
-didn't get rid of acne
Overall, it wasn't a very good acne cleanser. It was too harsh on skin, but not harsh enough on acne.
My daughter uses this and it cleared up all of her acne on her forehead . She has used proactiv and this stuff works so much better. I get it at Walgreens. Can't find it every where Walmart used to carry it but I haven't seen it there lately.
I could not survive a southern summer without this. I have oily, acne prone skin. My derm told me about this miracle product probably 10 years ago. In the colder months I use it maybe once a month, then in summer I usually increase it to every other day. This will dramatically help oily skin. Don't get crazy and use it too frequently or of course it will dry you out. And also always follow any cleansing with a good moistruizer, that will also keep oiliness at bay. I cannot recommend this product enough.
