I didn't like his product AT ALL. This is the prduct that ruined my skin. Before I used this I used Pro Activ and found it just wasn't working for me. So my step mother suggested the Cliniqe 3 step regimen. This burned my skin so bad and made it so red. It also made my skin super oily and you know what that means...breakouts. So I thought about the saying "It has to get worse before it gets better" so I kept using it thinking it would get better...nope. Juuuust got worse. Hope this is helpful.
I'm currently using my 4th large size of this toner. I love it! It has helped clear my breakouts and brighten my skin. Best of all it keeps my skin clear! I've tried #2 and I hated it (contains menthol) but #3 is perfect for my oily, acne prone skin. I will always repurchase this fab product!
I've been using Clinique toners for about 9 years. I started off with Clarifying Lotion #3 when I had cystic acne. Lotion #3 helped clear up my acne SO much in the first 1-2 years. after 4 years of religious use, my skin actually repaired itself enough to look like totally normal, healthy, wonderful skin, thanks to the toner. people are shocked when I show them my cystic acne pics. I feel "cured" now. I have since switched to Lotion #2 when my skin became normal.
yes, its alcohol based but I do believe some skin types will suit it. for reference I have combination, sensitive skin, which is occasionally acne prone (I still get some cystic pimples when i'm extremely stressed). I've tried other brands of toner (avene, body shop, etc) but they are "weak" on my skin. this perfectly cleans every last vestige of cleanser, makeup, dead skin cells, and bacteria off my skin, twice a day.
I believe it has a mild "exfoliating" effect as well, since it effectively removes any dry skin flakes and creates a perfect smooth canvas for makeup. I wouldn't dream of putting on makeup unless my skin has been buffed with this toner on a cotton pad. I can really feel my skin incredibly healthy and radiant when I use this. when I switch to other brands my skin is less smooth, "rubbery", and develops tiny bumps.
do give it a try and perhaps drop to Lotion #2 or even #1 if you feel this is too harsh. consult the Clinique staff for great recommendations and advice. :)
I love this! I don't really know why it's called a lotion but whatever. I initially bought it at Macy's and bought it in the "travel size" pack with a face wash and moisturizing gel. I apply a tiny bit to a cotton ball and just swipe once over each part of my face. A little goes a long way with most Clinique face products. If you buy this, get someone to help you who actually works at Clinique, which may mean going to Macy's and getting someone who works for Clinique. They can match you perfectly with which number to get. Definitely will repurchase.
When you open this, the smell of alcohol hits you in the face! I hate it, it gave me really big boils, initially I thought it was cause I was in London for a while so the air could have been effecting my skin then I didn't use it one day and my skin cleared immediately... Don't waste your money on this, it's terrible
I LOVE THIS!
I'm only 16, but am struggling with severe breakouts, oiliness and redness, which is probably caused by puberty but this toner...it's my holy grail product. It controls my oiliness perfectly, leaves my skin perfectly clean and when used with a moisturizer afterwards (like you definitely should since this contains alcohol which can be drying) it doesnt leave my skin feel tight or dry at all. I guess this is a product that works very different for everyone. If you havent used Cliniques lotions before you should definitely start with a low number lotion (1, eventhough it's for very dry to dry skin) to see how your skin reacts to the alcohol. I started with 2 and then moved to the 3 which I think has changed my skin completely.
THANK YOU CLINIQUE!
I used to have some oily areas and breakouts so i started using this and i must admit it does burn while it is on your skin but within 30 seconds spots shrink down, are less red and my face feels cleaner, oily is gone all day.
After using this only splash your face with cold water for a minute, my skin isnt sensitive but i actually don't mind the tingle/burn, my pores are noticable smaller
The smell is quite strong- if you sniff it your eyes will water, its like nail polish remover.
This product is very effective but if you have dry cracked skin, steer clear it will sting! If you're spotty and oily, it will really help!
This is the only product I use from the Clinique 1 2 3 skin care range. I have been using clarifying lotion for about 2 years now and have gone from number one eventually to number 3. It is strong, smells very much of alcohol and has a tingling effect, if you've never used the lotion before START LOW the Clinique counters give out samples for that reason! I have combination skin, and did get terrible break outs, I still do occasionally, mainly hormone induced, but feel this product helps massively. Moisturiser sinks in better after using it, my face feels really clean and refreshed, it gets rid of dry skin flakes and a little goes a long way. I buy a large bottle every six weeks and use it morning and night all over my tzone / sometimes the rest of my face depending on outbreaks. My only criticism is I feel my skin is dependant on this product, I love the effect it has, but if I go say four or five days without using it, even replacing it with another toner, if I can't for whatever reason get any Clinique, my skin is oily, spotty and has large pores, not brilliant, so if I go on holiday I can't relax my regime and hate running out of product for that reason. I do find if I have a break out of have spots "brewing" so to speak a swift run over with this tends to reduce swelling as redness - this is my can't live without product, but I don't know if that's necessarily positive as my skin feels almost reliant
The lady at Clinique told me I was a three when i visited about a month ago. I have oily skin and I bought this based on my skin type with the liquid facial soap oily skin formula and the moisturizing gel for my three step system. I liked how clean this made me feel, however my skin was so much more oily during the day after using this product. When a product is too drying, it tricks your skin into thinking it needs to produce more oil to keep your skin moisturized and that's what I think happened here. Luckily I bought my clarifying lotion at Nordstrom where they were able to refund me. I switched to the #2 toner and my skin has never looked better. I am still using the oily skin formula soap and gel moisturizer even though I am using the #2 toner. I feel so clean and my pores are smaller and my skin tone is even. Make sure you're buying this product from a store you can exchange to test which product really does suit you best!
OMG! The smell of alcohol is catastrophic!! Just how much alcohol does this thing contain? No matter how oily your skin is, putting so much alcohol on it is bad! I'm not particularly sensitive to alcohol smell but I do find a very strong alcohol smell revolting. I always have to hold my breath when applying this toner on my face. It does a pretty good job of removing the oil from my face, but a good cleanser will do that too so I don't see any point in using this. It leaves a feeling of tightness on my skin that I hate. It feels so tight that I feel like if I smile my face will crack.
-Too much alcohol content
-Very strong unpleasant smell
-Feeling of extreme tightness on the skin
-Removes the oil from the face
In conclusion, I wouldn't repurchase this product again. If you want a product that helps control your oil levels just invest into a good cleanser rather than smearing alcohol all over your face.
