Let me start off my saying that I'm not sure if it's the way I'm applying this to my face but I haven't seen a difference. I've been using this for 2 weeks and my face is still oily at the end of the day. I'm really bummed because I wanted to love this product so much hearing from all the positive reviews M.O.M has controlling oil so I was excited to try it along with Monistat Chafing Gel. My face still gets super oily as normal, nothing's changed. I apply it with a brush but I'll try a different technique on applying it hoping it will work. I need something to control my oil but for now this isn't working for me, sadly. Probably it's the moisturizer I'm using that's still making me oily? Hmmm, I don't know..
UPDATE:
Today was the day that I only blotted once and did not touch up at all. I'm so happy! Honestly I was losing hope. I was just going to finish the Milk of Magnesia up because I just didn't want it to go to waste and never buy again. But today I saw a difference. I believe the moisturizer I was using before was making my face oily even when using MOM. I bought a new moisturizer only because I had finished my old moisturizer and ended up buying Cetaphil's Dermacontrol Oil-Control Moisturizer Spf 30. At first I was bummed because I was originally going to buy CeraVe's AM but Target didn't have it and I went with Cetaphil and when I got home to read the reviews on the moisturizer, they weren't that great. So when applying my makeup today I wasn't expecting any changes on my oilyness. Gave the moisturizer a minute or 2 to set, applied MOM with a brush gave it a couple minutes to really set, applied Monistat and let that set. I leave the house around 8 and by 9 I already feel my face oily but today the only time I blotted was around 11 but honestly I didn't even need to blot I just did because I thought my face was oily which turned out to be more of a nice dewy glow. I'm guessing all along the moisturizer I was using was being a pain in the butt but I'm glad that I found the solution!

I read reviews all over the internet about how good milk of magnesia was as a primer, so i decided to try it. I bought Phillips brand, original flavor because the off brand had additional ingredients that I didn't want. I LOVE this stuff! We have had a few hot days recently and
i didn't use it because I was just at home with my kids...well, I was oily and shiny all day. So I have been using it under my makeup when i go to the store, church or wherever and have gotten alot of compliments on my skin lately! This morning I ran in the Flying Pig 10k (in Cincinnati) in the sprinkling rain and even with the sweat and rain, when I finished, my friend could not believe how great my makeup looked. I told her it was the milk of mag and I decided after this true test of the product that I had to write a review for it! Even the photographer for the event wanted to take my picture afterwards. I tried to refuse because I felt so sweaty and nasty, but she told me I looked so good for just finishing a race that she wished she looked that good period! AMAZING product!

After reading all the great reviews of this as a mask or primer for oily skin, I though for £2.99 I'd give it a go. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I could only find it in mint (any brand).
It just didn't work for me. As a mask it never dried and didn't seem to do a single thing to my skin. As a primer...well, because it never dried it had a horrible 'tacky' feel to it which was quite unpleasant to apply make up over. I didn't notice any appreciable difference to oil production, and in fact I would say it made it worse as it felt so heavy on my skin. I was very aware of it all day.
So, while not an expensive experiment, it is still disappointing that this has not worked for me when it was so good for others!

Unfortunately did NOT work for me. In my late 40's still with super oily skin and thought I may have finally found something that worked based on all the positive reviews. Used as a mask in the evening that I washed off and when that didn't seem to have any results I used it under makeup during the day - still blotting and powdering during the day as usual. Oh well...

Am I really using MoM on my face? Yes, I am! Of course, I got a new bottle to keep it in – this would be tricky to explain to someone!
I picked up a bottle of MoM at the dollar tree, cheap cheap cheap! I apply it with a foundation brush after I put on my daily face lotion (after I shower) – this is key b/c I can’t use this alone – it just gets really cakey & nasty sticky when I tried without lotion. Blending it with your lotion is vital. Also you have to shake up the bottle really well each time – and just use the little bit that sticks to the inside of the lid. If I still have the white streaks, I take a powder puff from some old powder and just buff lightly until the white is gone.
It has really helped me to be less oily! My lifelong quest! I can’t say it’s 100% better, so I still keep my oil absorbing sheets nearby, but it is SOOOO much better. I used to be all oily by the time I got to work!
For a dollar, just take a chance on this trick! I’m so glad I found it on MUA – still not sure what made me click on it, but I’m glad I did!!! continued >>

This stuff did not help at all with my oily T-zone... I'm so miserable :( I had HIGH EXPECTATIONS that it would keep my makeup matte all day without worrying about caking my face up with powder every hour but it didn't :( It only made my foundation look even more cakey and I started getting oily just like any other day. I'm so so disappointed with this product! I tried it as a mask too, it didn't work either. I mean, it makes you look matte when you first put it on but after like 30 minutes I started getting oily again :(

I've had oily skin skin I was a teenager. For the past couple of years it's been reaaaally bad. I've tried all kinds of moisturizers/lotions, primers, foundations, and powder but nothing helped. And then I heard of MoM. I was skeptical like a lot of others were but it couldn't hurt to try it. I think this is the best thing's that ever happened to my face as far as controlling oil goes. Being a hair stylist, I'm constantly moving and of course sweating so I really needed something to situate my oils. On an average day I'd get oil an hour after my makeup application. No bueno!! Now, it's not a miracle product, I do still get oil production on my face, but its significantly reduced. I still have to blot but instead of a disgusting greaseball it's more dewy and glowy which I dont mind. I tone my face, use my Neutrogena oil free moisturizer with SPF 35, apply MoM thinly with a cotton pad, then apply Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. My make is as flawless as its gonna get!! So happy with this product Im definitely a lot more confident! :)

BEST PRIMER EVER! I use this before my monistat chafing gel and any foundation. This is great at making your skin not oily. With out any thing my skin can get greasy. Ever since this though my make up stays on longer, doesnt break me out at all. If your dry I wouldnt suggest using this. It cost me not even $5 to buy this and I've had it since July 2011. I dnt think it expires but if so somebody please let me know

Here is a different, yet highly effective use for MOM - use it as an underarm deodorant. I read about this somewhere and tried it myself, and I'm here to say it really works! You will still perspire, but no odor to speak of! Even on hot, humid days. After a shower, I pour some on a paper towel/swatch of toilet tissue/cotton pad and just dab it liberally in the underarm area. Works perfect. A lot better than the all-natural no aluminum deodorants on the market. I tried the coconut oil/baking soda concoction, albeit very effective, I got a bad rash in the underarm area. You cannot beat the price either. A whole bottle of MOM will last a long, long time. Try it out for yourself.

I am from Singapore and I have been hunting for this Philips Milk of Magnesia but no luck yet. The closest I could find is Mylanta antacid. Does it have the same effects?

I'd love to give this a try but it's unavailable in Australia. It's been banned for reasons I'm unsure of. Does anyone know if there's something very similar that might have the same effect?

This stuff works. I have an extremely oily t-zone but when I use a little bit of this on a cotton pad and swipe it over the t-zone area (after my moisturizer and before my makeup) it makes a big difference in oiliness. I still get oily, but it's reduced. I wash it off with my makeup and use it sparingly, every 3rd or 4th day or so. I don't wanna overdo it as it is very drying. I haven't had any problems with any white residue or anything that other people have mentioned. I use Max Studio Fluid Fix and it goes on smoothly on top of this.

FINALLY something to help control my oil! Oh my goodness, this stuff is amazing! Usually after 2 to 3 hours of wear, my t-zone will start showing oil. After applying a THIN layer of this on my face, my makeup lasted 8+ hours with no signs of oil. Now I emphasize thin because if you apply too much, your skin will feel like leather due to over drying. Experiment how much you need to put on your skin. I also noticed applying too much made me break out. The product will work at its optimal level when you figure out how much is best for your skin :)

After many products, I've finally found something that works on my oily skin! I was very hesitant to try this at first but now am so glad that I did.
Although I don't notice a difference without make up on, I do notice a huge difference through out the day while I have make up on. My t-zone without fail used to get oily by middday and not it stays matte throughout the whole day.
I've tried different ways of application. The way that I've found that works best is to wash your face with a mild cleanser in the morning, apply oil free spf moisturizer and then the MOM.

So I've had very very very oily skin and it's my biggest insecurity, I'm thankful for having no acne at all but the oiliness is just too much! I would blot and blot, powder over and over and it wouldn't help a bit! My face looked extremely oily and it was just disgusting, being in an outdoor school where during break, lunch and passing periods your outside in the sun made it worse because in the sun I looked like a grease ball. I heard many people raving about MOM and I was just very curious so since it's so affordable I thought why not! After I took a shower I applied a VERY THIN layer of it on my skin, waited 10 minutes and then rinsed it off. Automatically I noticed a huge difference because im always shiny when I get out of the shower and before I toto bed my skin is already super greasy, but when I used MOM it was completely matte. When I woke up I applied it after my moisturizer and then smoothed out the chalkiness with my smash box primer and put concealed on which is all I need. I didn't even need to set my face. So I finish my makeup at around 6:30 in the morning, usually have to blot 20 minutes later:- and then around a billion times through out the day:/ but with this product I blotted 0 times. I was not one bit shiny even at 9pm. It is seriously a miracle. It cleared my redness and made my pores disappear and it just a miracle product. Been using it for 2 years and it's still working and hasn't broken me out :)

I'm a 41 yr. old female who has suffered from oily skin since the age of 13. When I was younger it was extremely, embarrassingly oily. I have tried EVERYTHING out there. I also suffered from acne from about age 13. I have spent so much money trying every new product that promised to clear my acne and oily skin. Tried lots of prescriptions that worked for a while then stopped working. The only thing that totally worked for acne was going on accutane when I was 36 years old. The accutane totally cleared my acne and slowed down the oiliness somewhat.... however, at the age of 41 my skin was still quite oily. So I went online to see if there were any home-remedies for oiliness that I hadn't heard of. I saw that a lot of people were saying good things about Milk of Magnesia.
I tried Phillips milk of magnesia (non-flavored kind) and it is a MIRACLE in slowing down the oiliness and I think it helps with the occasional zits I was getting too, cause I haven't had any at all since I started it. I've bought so many "oil reducing primers" all kinds of products that did nothing for my skin.
I haven't even tried wearing it under makeup yet, I've only been doing a nightly mask with it. I put it on my face before bed, leave it on about 20 minutes and wash it off with warm water. And wow!!!! What a huge difference! The next day my skin is probably about 85% - 90% less oily the whole day. Not only that, it doesn't dry out my skin, it leaves it clear, soft, and supple. I might try the "applying it and putting makeup on top of it" thing at some point.
My skin is usually SO SENSITIVE to trying anything new, usually any new product I try on my skin makes me break out. So I was VERY skeptical. But it was inexpensive to try, so I thought I'd give it a go. I've been using it for about 4 weeks now and I am ABSOLUTELY THRILLED with the results.
I can't say enough good things about it. I LOVE what MILK OF MAGNESIA does for my skin!!!!! I NEVER, EVER thought I would find anything that would help with the oiliness, because I've literally tried hundreds of expensive products (and spent thousands of dollars) through the years. Whoever discovered it would help skin oiliness, I'd like to shake your hand in thanks!!!

Ok so like I've said in most of my other reviews, I have really, really oily skin. And living on Texas coast don't help the situation. I've tried oil control primer after primer and this is the only thing that helps. It doesn't cure the problem, in my case, but I have seen improvement in my acne and oiliness on my face. It's kind of hard to work with, being that when it dries, its very chalky and leaves white residue on your skin! So what I do is pat this on with a cotton pad, let it dry completely, so that your skin soaks it up and put a primer on top of it to smooth it out and the white chalkiness disappears if you rub the primer in really good. My makeup looks good on top of it and stays oil free for a good 3 hrs, which is wonderful for me! I will continue to use this, as it works alot better than most other oil control products. Plus for the price of this compared to quality and quantity, compared to most other products, is just wonderful. Please try this if you have oily, acne prone skin!

I don't know how I lived before Milk of Magnesia. My skin is SO oily...seriously. I have lived in hot and humid Texas my whole life and have tried countless moisturizers, primers, etc to keep my face matte throughout the day and nothing has worked for me like MOM. Because my skin is so oily I HATE the dewy look. Lol. Give me matte any day. I buy my MOM from the dollar store--works the same as Phillips but for cheaper which is good for a broke college student/beauty addict like me. I take a cotton ball and put a layer on my face, let it dry then apply primer. I then use my cream stick foundation and follow with my usual makeup routine and my face stays matte for HOURS. I will continue to use MOM forever!

i had to write a review for this baby. i have oily skin, and over the lapse of a couple of hours, my skin would normally be disgustingly greasy & oily--lots of touch ups! ever since i tried milk of magnesia out, i CANNOT believe the results. the product itself, which i apply first to my face (along with my smashbox photo finish light), works wonders for whatever else i put on. it makes my makeup last up to 7 hours without touch ups! and that's huge for me. the packaging's not the best, but it wasn't intended for this use anyway so you can't really blame it. the price for it is not that bad, but i use it every day with about 3-4 drops, so it seems to go away quickly. however, i don't see the point in trying any other product that does what MoM does because it gives me wonderful results! i recommend this for anyone who can't seem to control their oily skin. milk of magnesia is my HG! xx continued >>

I love this product even though I still get oily when I use it. But my skin gets 10x more oilier when I don't use it. Compared to other make up products made for reducing the appearance of oil on one's face, milk of magnesia actually tops brand name products. Overall, even though it doesn't completely eliminate shine throughout the whole day, without this product I would look like I ran a 25m marathon... everyday!
