Prior to receiving this in a swap, I had never heard of the line. After doing some research, however, I was intrigued. Aquatrol is from Environ's Interactive Range and is a pre-cleanser. Meaning, it is a cleansing oil. I like cleansing oils as they are better at removing makeup and debris and cut down on the amount of treatment cleanser and/or toner needed. I have used Shu Balancing Cleansing Oil in Fresh (a bit drying unless mixed with castor oil) and DHC Deep Cleasning Oil. In both cases, the oil lathers a bit during the rinse. That is not the case with Aquatrol...it is quite oily; although, I really like it a lot. I warm a nickel- to quarter-size amount in my dry hands and, using a circular motion, massage into my dry face until I feel all the makeup is lifted (including my w/p mascara). With other cleansing oils, I normally rinse at this point. I don't attempt to rinse the Aquatrol. Instead, I rinse my hands and, using a pea-size amount of treatment cleanser (I use Cosmedix Purity Clean) rub into a light lather in my damp hands. Again, using a circular motion, massage into my face. Then rinse everything off with cool water. This system leaves my face feeling fresh, clean and neither too dry nor too oily. I continue with the rest of routine. I have combo/sensitive and breakout-prone skin and Aquatrol does not cause me to break out, nor does it cause increased oil production. If you are very oily and/or suffer with bad acne, I don't know how this would work. I have heard that cleansing oils are quite good for these skin types and actually act to counter the oil production, but don't know that I could bring myself to add oil if I had very oily skin. I love cleansing oils and will continue to use them...this one included. I found a web site http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/ that suggests using a combo of castor oil and sunflower seed oil (both cold pressed) in different quantities depending on skin type as a DIY cleansing oil. I will try this one next, but would not hesitate to purchase Aquatrol when my bottle runs out.
