as far as sun protection goes, this is a fine product. however, if youre actually hoping to multitask and get a "tan" while wearing it, you may be out of luck.
the good: i wore it in july during peak sun hours on venice beach and did not burn where it was applied. the bad: as for the gradual tanning action, i experienced none. ive used this stuff pretty consistantly all summer and gotten absolutely no color.
true, im very pale, but the true test of this product's ineffectiveness as a sunless tanner was the fact that my half asian bf (who tans very easily) used it for the duration of a trip to the beach and we BOTH stayed pale. too bad, cause i love the idea of this stuff. for now, i will stick with doing my protecting and my tanning separately.

This stuff held a lot of promise, but in the end it was just another gooey sunblock. It felt greasy going on but didn't break me out -- still, it felt gross. The gradual color thing was also really minimal, I used the kind for medium skin tones and barely noticed a difference. I can vouch for its longevity though, I used this all over for a kayaking trip and didn't get burned at all. I noticed a slight color change after the trip but it seemed to come off with the shower; I think this stuff adds more of a surface bronze than an actual self tan. I'm going to keep looking for an affordable, non greasy self tanning sunblock.

I think this is the best self-tanner I have ever used. I am extremely pale and anything that adds too much color just looks blatantly fake on me (and the weirdness around the feet that I get regardless of how careful I am doesn't help!)
This adds just the tiniest bit of color - which is exactly what I want, to not look glow-in-the-dark white, but not "tan" either.
The consistency is great - love the high SPF - non-sticky, I have been using this as an everyday sunscreen and it has no weird smell or strange feel. Completely great!

I thought this was going to be my HG product... It has everything: UVA/UVB, Helioplex, Oil Free, and Self Tanner. However, the self tanner does nothing. I bought the one for medium skin tones and after two weeks, no color change!
The only positive I can say is that the product never broke my face out, even though it felt greasy.

This is a wonderful formula for oily/combo skin, it's lighter than most and not greasy. It is stable. And unlike the Dry Touch SPF55, this did not irritate my skin or cause breakouts. I did use the recommended 1/4 tsp (that's for all sunscreens, folks, to get the protection on the label), but I cheated a little and spread it on both my face and neck. I'm fair, and I bought the "fair" version, but after one (!) application the color turned out a little too orange-y brown for my taste. At the moment my face is a different tone than the rest of my body. For medium skins I don't think it would be noticeable. Now I want to find the same sunscreen formula without the color.

The color-boosting claim of this product is a bunch of crap...didn't irritate my skin or make me break out but it's no different than a regular SPF...would not waste my money again.

The Color Boosting Sunblock is only available in Fair and Medium. There is no Dark for this one. However, I have not noticed any color difference from this sunscreen and I have been applying it several times daily for an entire week. However, as far as the sunscreen part of it, I really like the consistency of the lotion and the way it feels on my face. It does provide great sun protection, but I think that the color boosting part is just a gimmick and does not actually work.

I really wanted this to be IT. SPF 30 that seems stable and broad spectrum with self tanner. Not many of these around. Nice, easy to squeeze tube with a flip cap. Toothpaste like consistency that spreads easily and it absorbed really fast without leaving a coating or any greasy feel or white cast. It also made my skin feel really comforable. I didn't feel the need to add more lotion or body cream. How great is that?? But like Kimball, after using for 2 weeks it left no color whatsoever. Now I'm naturally medium skin toned and I got the medium version, so I'm going to try the Dark and see if that makes a difference. I'm using it only on my body and haven't tried it on my face. It hasn't separated on me at all...yet, I don't seem to be getting any color from the sun (at least that I can tell but I rarely burn, but it doesn't seem like I'm getting any browner either). The scent is very mild with a slight DHA scent, but it disappears quickly. If I do buy the dark version, I'll update. I certainly won't buy the medium again. Might as well stick with my Banana Boat sport for body, which I like equally as well for sun protection and get bang for the buck.

Unlike the reviewer below, I didn't burn with this, though I really only use it for day to- day, I haven't tried it as a fun-in-the sun-sunscreen. My beef with it is twofold, it gave me no color whatsoever, even using it every day for a week, and secondly it became weak and watery, seemed to actually separate. I just read an article stating this is the formula breaking down, and this started less than two weeks of purchasing. I am using this up, but I wouldn't recommend it. The idea is wonderful, the execution not so much.

I was so excited to find this product. Perfect for the beginning of summer it is self tanner, moisturizer and SPF 30 in one. I wore it yesterday out in the sun for four hours. I burned everywhere. I have olive skin, light/medium toned, I've already been in the sun a couple times this year and usually only burn if I'm out a long time with no sunscreen. What a disappointment. I've been researching sunscreens more and this one is UVA/UVB, photostable, helioplex - all things you are supposed to look for. To bad it sucks royally! Needless to say I will return this and re-purchase my trusty Coppertone.
