Wet N Wild makes a lipstick VERY SIMILAR to this Hot Read 519A, both are HG for me : )

Holy crap this red is awesome. I've worn it all day (8 hours plus) and it's still there! I had to reapply at lunch once and after I ate a soda, but not once has it bled. MAC needs to re-release this so I can buy several more. It has this beautiful frost finish that isn't entirely drying. I kinda find it similar to MAC's Prolongwear in Prolong, but I find that can even bleed. MAC please bring back Port Red!

I will preface this review by saying that I do not generally like to wear frost finish lipsticks, and although I own a number of red lipsticks, my lipsticks of choice are almost always nudes and neutrals. So imagine my surprise when I picked up Port Red from the Naughty Nauticals 2008 release on a whim and fell in love!
I think this is a fantastic red to try if you're a little nervous about taking the plunge into the world of bright red lips. Although it can be applied to have a rather vibrant, opaque finish, you can also use it more tentatively for an equally effective look.
For reference, I'm a pale girl who wears MUFE HD 115/MAC NC 15 (although the latter is not perfect for me, it's just my closest MAC match). Port Red has a fabulous golden shimmer throughout which is more noticeable with a stronger application. It gives it a very unique and versatile look. It works well with a neutral eye, but I also think I'd be brave enough to try it with a soft charcoal smoky eye, too. Despite the description of it being yellow and warm, I find it pulls a little cool on me, but I like that as I often find warmer reds with strong orange tones don't quite work on me.
Unfortunately it was limited edition, so finding one is becoming more and more difficult. I bought a back up as it's likely I will use more than one tube. I use this in both winter and summer despite the colour initially looking to me like more of a winter shade. It's a fabulous shade to pair with a Christmas party dress! I have to say that this is the only red shade I wear and feel truly confident in. It is long lasting and doesn't tend to bleed badly, so I don't stress about constant touch ups, and despite the finish I don't find it the least bit drying on my lips. My HG red, for certain.

Very unique color. A warm, frosty, vibrant red. Unfortunately, two don'ts in one tube for me: The warmth (aka more on the orangey than the pinky side) and the frost. A simple cool matte red already looks on the verge of exaggeration on me, let alone a frosty one. I just wore it once for a night out in Manhattan, with a little black dress and pearls - the drill. It didn't look bad, but probably what really made me pull it off was the whole vibe of the city rather than genuine bravery. Looks quite luxurious, I do find it an awesome color in the bullet case, just not on myself. I've seen it compliment tan-medium skintones beautifully, I just happen to think it's a bit too much for pale ladies. Then again, it's up to everybody's personal preferences. Would recommend for dramatic looks, but wouldn't repurchase.

I love red lipsticks, but usually find I'm a bit lazy to make the proper commitment re: maintenance. So they tend to be saved for special occasions.
Port Red is extremely wearable. I love the finish, and this works well blotted as a stain, lightly applied or more heavily applied (gets slightly metallic sheen due to gold shimmer which otherwise isn't noticeable on my lips).
This doesn't dry my lips, wears well without migrating and surprisingly if I haven't reapplied all day will end up fading evenly so it looks like a stain rather than me being lazy. This is an extremely beautiful colour and, I think, quite unique. I hope it gets re-released. I would repurchase in a heartbeat.

I bought this on Ebay after reading all the positive reviews an here and can categorically say I think it's the best red MAC ever made - and I'm on the downhill run to 40, so I've had many years to check out red lipsticks. As a reviewer notes below I think this would work for many skin tones. As another reviewer notes the closest colour in MACs 'normal' range is Ruby Woo - imagine a metallic, slightly softer version of that and you get Port Red. Really stunning. I bought a couple of back ups on Ebay after my first wear! Fortunately MAC lipsticks last for years, so I reckon I'll get to use them.

i managed to finally buy this lipstick off someone and it was love at first sight when i applied it. I'm of a really complex coloring, to a point where i shun buying foundations because i can never get a good match. The closest i'm come to is a C40 in mac, MUFE 34 and Armani LSF 6.5. This lipstick is the only red lipstick that actually looks good on me. I've tried all the famous mac red lippies- russian red, dubbonnet, red, etc, but they all came off as garish on my full lips. This has tiny flecks of gold that makes this lipstick look slightly shiny and sleek on my lips. It's also very comfortable, not drying at all. In all, it's very very pretty! I highly recommend this to all girls out there who have had problems finding their perfect red. Give this a try, you will not regret it :)

I wish I could buy this again but it was limited edition. The color is so vibrant. It is in my opinion THE perfect red. Looks great if you want to do that pinup girl look. The lipstick glides on so smoothly. And I love that there's a bit of a metallic look to it which looks great in the light. MAC needs to bring this color back! Cause I want another one.

the only red lipstick i have, or will ever need. a shimmery pure red reminiscent of dorthy's red slippers, an absolute beauty. i tried this on when i was in the mac store on whim and was actually quite surprised by how good it looked. this was the 1st red l/s i ever owned. up until then i was afraid of wearing red l/s. now i'm a bit older and wiser, i figure every woman should have 1 red lippie in her arsenal. before leaving the store i topped it off with love alert dazzleglass and proceeded to the rest of my shopping. i got soooo much attention from guys, it was ridiculous. who would have though a red lip had so much power. lol.

Frosty lipsticks usually scare me a bit - they remind me of older ladies. However, the vibrant colour of Port Red counters this awful thought of mine. Most red lipsticks go pink on me (light yellow toned asian skin) but this one doesn't seem to.
It goes on as it should do - a rich ruby red which is slightly metallic but not so much that you look like a fembot. It lasted through a meal for me, so great lasting power too. It is quite dry though so lipbalm underneath is recommended, but its a shame it is limited edition because it is truly beautiful.

I love this lipstick. I have tons of red lipsticks, but this is something different in comparison to all of my blue based reds. It's gorgeous, the frost factor isn't "too much" and it looks very classic and gorgeous. I can see this lipstick working for a variety of skin tones!

Port Red was from the Naughty Nauticals collection that came out in May 2008, but I wasn't looking for a red lipstick then. It is November 2008 and the recent collections are Cremesheen and "Red" She Said, both of which feature red lipsticks (Brave Red and "Red" She Said respectively). Having compared in person Port Red with these other two reds, I decided to go with Port Red. I was lucky that my MAC store still has a few tubes of Port Red left and so I could personally try it on along with the Redd lip pencil.
Port Red is a warm red whereas Brave Red and "Red" She Said are cooler. Brave Red has a slightly orange tone to it whereas "Red" She Said has a pink tone, if you take Port Red as a base for comparison. I am an NC30 and I find that Port Red DOES brightens up my complexion- it projected a sort of luminous glow on my cheeks which looked like I was blushing naturally. With Brave Red or "Red" She Said, on the other hand, my attention wasn't drawn immediately to the change in complexion. It was drawn rather to how my concealed dark circles were more visible than I had realized. I'm not sure how this is so, but it was my empirical observation.
I subsequently made the purchase, along with the Cherry lip pencil instead of Redd (Redd is red-orange, while Cherry matches almost exactly Port Red). I've been wearing this every day ever since my purchase. It figures because the first time I put it on to show my boyfriend, he only said "oh wow" with genuine awe. Also, I paired this lipstick with an almost bare eye and I received a compliment from a waiter at a restaurant that I've frequently patronized and yet was never particularly noticed until I went back with Port Red.
It's not a sex siren red, no, neither is it a "EVERYBODY LOOK AT ME" red. It's just a red with shimmer that could be classy with the right makeup ensemble and it DEFINITELY works very well for someone who's NC30. I've seen a review where another NC30 thought it was too bright. It isn't, if you are confident enough. It's all in the mind.
Another reviewer found that Port Red has a "thick" texture, and that is true, but so is it for all other Frost lipsticks from the MAC collection. They aren't as emollient as Lustre but they aren't drying like Mattes either. I personally wear a layer of MAC lip conditioner under my lipsticks so there is no comfort issue for me. If anyone is still looking for Port Red now, you could try your local MAC store (they might still have one or two left in their drawers), or else on the website. I was told that the products that they don't finish selling in the store are sold on the website.
I don't think that Port Red would still be available by the time I run out (in, let's say, 2 years?) but I would definitely be comparing my next red lipstick to it.

I am NW15 (though my skin tends to be neutral). This lipstick was LE with the May 2008 Naughty Nauticals collection. The color description is a clean yellow red with gold pearl. It is a frost finish. This lipstick is a great red lippie for warm-toned gals and especially for those who are red-lip-shy. It is more of a muted red, than say Russian Red, and it can be further muted with any kind of gloss. Personally, I usually prefer a brighter red, but this one's nice if you want one that's a little more low-maintenance. Even though the finish is a frost, it is not particularly frosty, but with rather a soft gold sheen. MAC lipsticks are $14 and I would repurchase if I could.

Beautiful red color! If you missed out on this one with the Naughty Nauticals collection, pick up Geisha's Kiss from Wet N Wild's Fantasy Makers collection, which is limited edition also and is Halloween only. They are identical.

It's going to be so hard NOT to wear thios color everyday!!! It not only is the perfect red but unlike the other MAC lipsticks, this one is not drying or chalky but smooth and reflects this gorgeous golden sheen. Just enough frost to make it interesting but not glittery at all and it brightens up my face like no other color in my arsenal. It is a "Look at Me" red so be prepared for lingering stares(from both sexes!) Can be worn for a glamour girl pin-up look or toned down for an everyday office look. A must have for your makeup collection.

The fact that this sold out at so many MAC counters "ASAP" really makes me hope that they bring it back as part of their permanent line. I don't own a lot of red lipsticks, and find that most of them don't really go with my complexion or make me look too much like Ronald McDonald, but this is one of the most perfect reds I have ever owned. It's shimmery, but not too shimmery, and as many people noted it is very "ruby slippers"-esque. You can wear just one layer of it for a pretty stain, or build it up into the perfect pin-up, 40s-color red. Looks really good over Brick lipliner (Auburn would work too). If they don't bring it back permanently my only regret will be not buying more than 1 backup!

This is such a pretty red! I can't usually pull of reds & this is the 1st one that I feel comfortable wearing(and I've been looking for years). It has a bit of shimmer in it, which I like. Usually reds turn on me being too pink or orange this does neither. Stays true to color & lasting power is really good too. Very pretty blotted too, if you don't want it as bright. Love this with a neutral eye & blacktrack fluid liner. Needless to say I hope that MAC brings this one back as this is the perfect red imo.:) continued >>

*****************PLEASE CLICK CONTINUED, THIS REVIEW INCLUDES PICTURES******************************
About me: I'm about NC20 right now, NC25 in the summer. I have black hair, brown eyes, very yellow toned (read, Asian) skin.
Collection: This came out in the Naughty Nauticals May 1st 2008 collection. The main theme of the collection was blues, red, and pinks.
Price: This is the regular MAC price of 14.00$. Not too cheap, not too expensive.
Lasting Power: Lasted through a pepsi, and a day's wear with only once (lunch) touch up. Great lasting power.
Texture: This is a Frost formula, so pretty dry. I use a balm underneath. This is very pigmented, so try and watch where you apply ;]
Packaging: I would have LOVED to see NN have dark glossy navy packaging. However, MAC didn't do that :[. It's packaged in the typical MAC bullet, kind of futuristic in the shape and the font MAC that's stamped on the side. I'm taking a lippie off for not being creative (come ON MAC!) but it's very functional.
Color: MAC says this is a 'clean yellow red with gold pearl'. This is very accurate. It's almost a retro pin up red, loud and sexy. Its very warm, I think, because it's a yellow red.
Comments: This was my first red lipstick, and I love it so much. People have compared this to Queen's Sin (of the Antiquitease collection), and said QS had more berry tones in it. Would I buy again? Hell yes. I'm getting a backup tomorrow!
PICS:

Color's pretty accurate here, skintone isn't

This is truly like a warm version of Queen's Sin, and it's also brighter. I have found after a couple of tries that I definitely have love for this red. It's beautiful and bold. And it's a true red, not orangey at all (thank goodness!). But I usually am not big on a bold red lip...I think for that reason I prefer Queen's Sin, which has that touch of burgundy to bring it down a bit. But Port Red truly is gorgeous! I can see why women are losing their minds over this shade.

I agree with Winthrop44 that PR is less formal than QS. That being said, I don't necessarily think PR is appropriate for casual daytime wear either. But I think there's a little of the bright-red-lippie phobia I have creeping out there...

Hopefully I won't be so timid and will wear this a bit more often...I suppose the good thing about not wearing it often is that I won't run out of it...I actually have a backup which is up for swap and am amazed that it hasn't been snapped up yet...

I still get this impression when I wear PR that people who see this on me think I've been rifling through my mom's MU drawer or something. Maybe because it is brighter than what I am used to. Maybe because it is a very warm red. Maybe because I am more of an alternative rock quasi-Goth chick than I am an old Hollywood starlet type. Don't know, but it's still nice to have in my ever-growing collection...just need to get over my timidity about this shade!

One last thing...this is definitely drying, though slightly less so than QS...darn these frost formulas from MAC!

UPDATE (11/6/08): This is just way too bright for me. I'll keep one in my collection, but I swear I feel like I am dressing up for the circus when I wear this.

QS is right on the border of wearability while still looking pretty on me. PR is on the border too but teeters towards the "I look ridiculous" end on me. Reminds me of clown red.

I have really tried to accept PR. But where QS is a bit toned down due to its ruby-berry cooler undertones, PR is loud and obnoxious against my very golden NC30 Eurasian skin. It just clashes too much. I can't carry this well enough to wear this frequently. And when this dries out on my lips, I look even freakier. I really think it's just me because this looks lovely on so many ladies out there...oh well...

I love this color so much! The Naughty Nauticals collection was released in Australia yesterday, and to be quite honest Port Red was originally not on my list of what I thought I'd get from this collection. I don't really own any true red lipstick so it was a toss-up between Port Red and MAC Red (from the permanent line). Upon seeing Port Red swatched on the back of my hand next to MAC Red, Port Red won my heart. The Frost texture in this lipstick is superb: more like a subtle shimmer than an all out glittery effect (some of the frosts have this glittery/drying/flaking texture that I really dislike). This color is gorgeous and should suit most complexions if you're up to trying/wearing a red lipstick! I bought a backup of the LE lipstick (which means yes I would/did repurchase).
*Edit* This color look absolutely amazing on my very pale skin, which makes it a great winter shade as well (for all us pale Aussie girls in the winter). It is an attention grabbing color, and yes guys DO look (much to my husband's dislike!). When I wear it I feel super special and very chic (who says wearing makeup isn't empowering?)This color has sold out in Melbourne stores five days after release in Australia.
