Priceline is an australian chain of pharmacies that also have their own brand of skin care. They produce two sorbolene creams. One is perfectly plain, and this one, SorboDerm H2O sorbolene cream contains vitamins a and e. I bought a 100ml tube of this for $2AU when I went away recently and didn't have any face cleanser or makeup remover with me. In the past I have used sorbolene cream, aqueous cream and Ponds Cold Cream as eye makeup removers and found them to be fairly decent, although I should point out that I don't normally wear waterproof mascara.
Firstly, this particular sorbolene cream is extremely thick. They also sell it in a 500 ml pump pack and I assume that would have a thinner consistency, but the one they sell in a tube is really thick. It does an adequate job of cleansing the face without rubbing or leaving the skin stripped, but it really doesn't get rid of mascara. It also leaves behind a slight film on the face after being wiped off with a warm wet facecloth. I have normal skin with an oily t-zone and didn't like the feel of this. People with drier skin, or living in harsher climates might though. I also tried using it as a hand moisturiser and found that it left a heavy film on the skin and didn't feel particularly moisturising. In fact it left my hands feeling slightly drier. I tried a second time, this time after bathing when my skin was still damp and it soaked in a bit better but still was not a good moisturiser.
I have absolutely no idea what I am going to use this for. It is currently sitting in my bathroom cabinet looking very forlorn. To sum up, all sorbolene creams are not created equal, despite having the same basic ingredients. I guess it must come down to the proportion of the various ingredients. In Australia Redwin make a good range of sorbolene creams which are lighter, more moisturising and also contain some vegetable oils as well as mineral oil. Leave the Priceline brand one alone.
