Um i like the silky feeling it gives my skin and my makeup does go on my face like butter after i put it on but to be honest i dont see much of a difference in the staying power. Or maybe i just didnt pay enough attention lol. Ill try it again.

Great for making makeup go on smooth! Doesn't make me break out. Good for razor bumps too!

I tried this once and then I took it back. I use Gerda Spillmann bio fond foundation, which is a cream foundation. It usually last awhile before it starts to break down. I'm in my late 20's so my skin is in decent shape. It isn't perfect, but it could be much worse.
I was really wanting something that would make my makeup last longer and stay in place a little better, so I decided to mess around with primers. I used them when I went to makeup school at MUD, but I haven't really ever used them on a day-to-day basis myself. I usually just do moisturizer and then makeup. I have started to skip using powder to set, even though it does seem to keep the makeup in its place, I am hating the matte look right now. Plus powder makes all those stupid baby hairs on my face show....gross! So I thought perhaps primer would help.
I won't lie the thought of silicone on my face grosses me out. I think I probably have it in some of my products, but the amount in a primer freaks me out so be aware of that as you read my review.
I've been having issues with my eyeshadow creasing. I've never had that before so I bought a cheap eyeshadow primer that seems to have worked well. I had hoped a face primer would do that same thing or more.
I bought this anti-chafing gel because as others have pointed out its made for the skin and is basically the same thing as a regular facial primer, plus its cheap. I bought it and tried it one day. Based on what I saw I didn't believe there was any significant different to how my makeup looked or how long it lasted it. That combined with the fact that I was so worried about the silicone breaking me out I immediately returned this product.
I'm not saying don't try it. It does give you that nice smooth feeling of a makeup primer. It is exactly the same thing. If you aren't worried about silicone or acne then absolutely try this product. I just couldn't get justify potentially causing a bad breakout for something that only made my makeup look marginally better and not flawless, but just because it wasn't a miracle for me doesn't mean it might not be a miracle for someone with a different skin type then myself.
Hope this does magic for someone. I do love when you can use a product from one market in another. :)

Couldn't believe when I first heard this connection, so I looked up the ingredients myself and sure enough, they had all the same ingredients as high end primers.
I love this as a primer, one hint that I was told is to completely let it dry before placing makeup over it. Sometimes I add a bit of a yellow toned foundation to it so that it covers some of the redness and then I add a touch of my foundation over the top when gives me the perfect coloring.
The primer helps to reduce the appearance of pores and fines lines. I have no problems with acne breakouts, altough I am especially prone.

I have recently gotten into using primer (I'm 53 now). I can see the benefits of using one, but I can't afford Smashbox photo finish, which I think is the best. Enter Monistat. You get a ton of product for about $6. I think that it works just as well as Smashbox. Very happy with it--definitely HG for me.
NOTE: I have combo skin, and have never had a breakout from this, but women with more oily skin may not have good results.

I keep seeing reviews saying this is gives horrible acne & I'm starting to worry. I have extremely cystic acne prone skin & I've been using this for the past few days, I haven't seen any acne yet(thankfully). I've been using this over Milk of Magnesia as my skin is extremely oily and the two together keep me oil free all day. I work 10 hour days & commute for 2 hours a day, so I'm in a face full of makeup for a long time everyday. I really needed something to keep my makeup looking good for that many hours & this is so far doing just that. I will update on the acne part but I'm really hoping this doesnt cause any for me cause this is exactly what I needed for my makeup to stay put all day!
**UPDATE** OH MY GOD. THIS HAS CAUSED THE WORST BREAKOUT OF MY LIFE & I HAVE DEALING WITH ACNE FOR YEARS. I HAVE NEVER BROKEN OUT SO BADLY BEFORE. MY FACE HURTS AND I AM ASHAMED BE TO OUTSIDE LIKE THIS. IT WORKED BEAUTIFUL FOR A WEEK AND THEN HUGE CYSTIC PIMPLES ALL OVER MY FACE. continued >>

I have combination-oily skin and a serious love of a bargain - this product suits both perfectly. When I use powder foundation (like BE), this is my go-to primer, as it makes the foundation last all day without any shine. I think this works just as well as any of the more expensive dimethicone-based primers and is easily available at big box and drugstores.

I decided to try the Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel as an alternative since a lot of people said it was comparable to the Smashbox Photofinish which I LOVE. This gives a smooth finish and the tube lasts a LONG time. A little product goes a long way. The only con is that it doesn't give me the same lasting power as the Photofinish. By the time I get home from school my makeup has somewhat faded. Being a poor student, the only reason I keep buying this is the price and above average performance!

I'm not a huge fan of primers unless I'm (a) going somewhere ridiculously hot (b) I'm wearing heavier makeup than usual (i.e. for photographs or HD videos). As a primer this is pretty comparable to Smashbox. It went on smoothly and took only about two minutes to set. Makeup applied evenly over the product. If you have acne prone skin, or oily skin I would not recommend this product. I would do a skin test first. Otherwise, I'm surprised by how well it worked.

For the purpose of a facial primer this was awful on my oily acne prone skin. Everything just slides right off of it and it did nothing to block oil.
I give it 3 lippies for its actual intended purpose, which it actually does quite well.

It rocks. Totally comparable if not better than Smashbox & DHC. If you have oily skin though, or are prone to breakouts - this may not be your answer. For me, it works PERFECT as a primer & makes foundation application a breeze :) continued >>

I've been using DHC Velvet Skin Coat beneath my foundation for a couple of months now, and much to my joy and surprise, I found this in the reviews for primers.
What?
Anti-chafing?
What?
Ok, so I've been using it for a couple of weeks and I can discern zero difference between this product and the DHC product.
My foundation applies just as well and it lasts perfectly well, too.
I have an oily nose, so nothing really holds there, but VSC by DHC didn't do anything better or different than the Monistat CRP-G.
As far as a perfect primer, I don't know, I haven't yet reached nirvana, but for me, this one works pretty well.

WOW! First of all, I had to troop it miles and miles away to get my hands on this darn product! I went to every local and non-local CVS, RiteAid, Walgreens, Target, K-Mart, Walmart etc and could not find it. Finally I took a trrip to Florida and BAM, there it was! I absolutely love this stuff. It works better than the overpriced ones in the market. If you happen to find them, stock up!

It did not work for me. My skin is oily and that is probably why.
I work 12.5 hour shifts in a hospital and i need a primer that can do its job to the fullest. This was too runny for my skin, didnt make my foundation last, and caused me to breakout.
Its just not for my skin.
I have a full bottle up for grabs if anyone wants it

Okay, let me start by saying I know a lot of people love this product. I do agree that it felt nice on my skin, did not make me break out, and came in a convenient affordable tube.
That's where the love stopped. I, as an oily-skinned gal mainly look for a primer that will control oil and keep my makeup looking fresh throughout the day. Monistat did neither of those things for me. I would not continue to use this, because I don't see the point in adding an extra step to my routine with no benefit.
It may work better for dry-skinned ladies, but they don't usually need primer anyway. As a side note, I do find it helps to prevent blisters on my feet when I wear uncomfortable shoes.

I am on my second tube of this and honestly it is the only primer I have ever liked. I have used drug store to high end trying to find a primer that did... well anything. The primer i ended up sticking with before this was basically a lotion and, after using this, I really don't think it did anything at all. This gel is very effective as a primer and the name is quite descriptive; it is actually a gel consistency that turns to a powdery soft substance when applied. The thing that I love most is that it does not feel like it is sitting on my skin, nor does it sink in and completely dissolve. This leaves the skin feeling so silky smooth and makes applying foundation super easy! As other reviewers stated, I too feel like I use less foundation when applied on top of this gel. This product is originally made to protect skin, and I think this is what makes it work so well as a base under makeup. Even alone it gives my skin a soft satin look! I have somewhat sensitive, acne prone skin and have not had any adverse reactions after using this on top of my moisturizer. A few tips: use sparingly, make sure any other face products have dried, let it set for 5 minutes or so, and be careful when squeezing the tube or you will end up with waaay too much product and waste it.

Just a dab of this on your face after you let your moisturizer set in works wonders. It glides on smoothly, is clear, and sets up a base that allows your foundation to go on evenly and effortlessly. It also keeps my foundation from settling into wrinkles. What you spend on this ($5) you will easily make up for in foundation, because it allows you to use less foundation. I am very happy with this and have bought tubes as gifts for my friends. I noticed other reviewers didn't care for this at all. I have to wonder if it's the climate: I live in a very dry climate, so there is no interaction with humidity. I have a friend in Austin, TX, however, and she still uses it and likes it.

Hi gals. I am from hot humid Durban in South Africa. I used Smashbox photofinish and it worked a charm. Then will web surfing I saw Monistat as a primer. I had to order from overseas. I eagerly awaited for it. Damn what a horrible primer! It feels nice in my hands but once applied my pores were accentuated, my foundation sliding off. I wear Double Wear by Estee lauder and this primer managed to ruin double wear's staying put power. Back to smashbox, though expensive, it is amazing primer. Love all your reviews on Makeup alley

This product worked great as a primer, but it made me break out SO badly. Definitely not for acne-prone skin. However, I have been using it under my eyes as a primer for that area, since I always use a lot of concealer there, and it works just fine. But as far as all of your face, I wouldn't try it.
