Lip Gloss -NARS -Velvet Lip Glide

on 9/8/2017 11:58:00 AM

I bought these as a set at Ulta to try different colors. Nice color range, but they are so difficult to work with. They feel nice as you apply them, but settle unevenly and into fine lines. And are really drying. My lips are rather dry so that may have something to do with it. But even after applying over a lip balm I could not get a smooth application. One plus, the color does seem to last long on the lips after the slight shine has disappeared.

Blush -NARS -NARSissist Unfiltered II

To be honest, I bought this mostly because the packaging was so unbelievably pretty (yes to the metal and not rubberised case!) I love the idea of 6 different blushes in one palette but I thought I would only get use out of 3, at most 4 of the shades.

I'm happy to say I was wrong. I'm NC20 and brown or coral toned blushes NEVER work on me, I always end up looking dirty. To my astonishment, Fame turned out to the the most gorgeous peach blush on me. I can wear peach! Hooray! Power Play is a matte light pink that's my everyday go-to blush, and Undefeated, with its slight shimmer, gives me a wonderful glow without screaming disco ball. How I ♥ Undefeated. I haven't seen a shade like this anywhere. I use Candid as a pop of colour when I need to look less "girly" and finally, Conquest and Hot Sand are the perfect highlighters for a pink and peach look respectively.

I have never come across a palette where I know all 6 shades are going to get lots of use - for this reason, this palette is terrific value-for-money. All blushes blend like a dream, way smoother and less streaky than my Mac blushes. The only caution I would add is to say this palette really works only for light-toned girls (NC25 and below). Any darker than that, the shades are unlikely to show up on you.

Liquid -NARS -All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

on 9/6/2017 8:59:00 AM

# First, some information about my skin:
I have combination skin that is often dehydrated and I use active skincare (retinoid, BHA or AHA, etc.)
As a consequence, I often have flaky patches of skin, especially on cheeks, around nose, under eyes, etc.
This foundation clings to flaky skin like a mofo. So moisturise well and use a silicone primer. But still tricky to avoid the flaking.

# shade: Gobi (Light 3) -- I'm NC15-20. It's a good match, a yellow undertone but looks natural on my skin.

# texture: light, runny. But it's oil-based, so shake well. (I don't think you should necessarily avoid oil-based foundation if you have oily or combination skin by the way, but that's another issue.)

# coverage: quite good! I have post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation and get frequent breakouts - this foundation covers it better than the Sheer Glow in my opinion.

It feels quite light on the skin, absolutely beautiful texture. BUT depending on the weather and if my skin is dehydrated (and therefore produces more oil) I find that my T-zone gets quite shiny after a few hours.

My biggest problem, however, is that it's not quite long lasting. If I don't set it well, or even if I do set it with powder, if I sweat or if my face gets warm from drinking on a night out, the foundation separates on the surface of my skin - it gets a bit patchy to the point where it looks gross.

But if I'm going out for a couple of hours, and am having a relatively good skin day, this foundation is no-fuss, light-weight and natural-looking.

The packaging gets 3 lippies because holy shit does the lid get dirty and smudged - like all of NARS packaging ...

Liquid -NARS -Sheer Glow Foundation

This goes on smoothly on my face but it always settles into my tiny pores. I've tried several foundations and this is the only foundation that does that to me. It didn't break me out, though, which is always an achievement.

Lipstick -NARS -Shrinagar

I was looking for a lipstick with a bit of pinkish tone and the Sephora SA pointed this one out to me. At first glance, I thought it was too plummy for what I was looking for but after application I had to purchase this one. The color is so pretty on my warm skin tone, it's become one of my favorites! I tend to apply the Buxom Rose Julep on top of it when I want a more glossy look. GORGEOUS!

I don't usually get high end make-up but I got this as a gift and I am IN LOVE. The silver sparkle is very classy, not at all tacky looking glitter. It's very fine and perfectly evenly distributed. The pink itself is very unique - delicate pale nude pink, somehow with beige and peach undertones?! Not sure how it works but it's amazing. When applied wet or over a good primer, more of the peach tone comes out and it loses any sense of powderiness. The whole thing just "becomes" the color of your lid. Even applied dry with no primer, it looks beautiful just slightly more pink toned with more of the usual powder eyeshadow appearance. As I said I really don't buy high end makeup as I don't have the budget for it but I would repurchase this if I lost it or when I hit pan because it's so unique and pretty.

I usually love NARS products, but this was a "no" for me. It doesn't cover spots/flaws at all even with three layers. It's not totally matte, it's semi-matte. The only good things are that Cadiz is the same shade match as the Sheer Glow foundation and there was no fragrance. The touch-up sponge is pointless because stick foundation blends and looks better with a brush.

Concealers -NARS -Soft Matte Complete Concealer

Oh my word how I love this concealer. I have pretty bad broken capillaries on my chin and around my nose, and it's really very difficult to get any concealer to cover them well. This one does the trick; I just use my index finger to get some concealer out of the pot and then pat it over the red parts of my skin. I do the same with the slight hyperpigmentation I have on my cheeks. (For the capillaries around my nose, I have to use a brush because it's harder to cover them with just a finger.) And it stays all day once I set it with powder. As promised in the name, the concealer itself is very matte and not sticky like some concealers you get in a pot (Kevyn Aucoin, looking at you here!). It's a bit pricey, but the pot lasts quite a long time. Nars Soft Matte Concealer, where have you been all my life!

Liquid -NARS -All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

My impression of NARS base products has always been that they seem to cater only to people whose skin types are normal, i.e. neither particularly oily nor dry, right smack in the middle - and this foundation is no exception.

Let's start with the positives - it. looks. beautiful. I suspect that people who complain that it looks cakey are using way too much and ignoring the instructions to use fingers to blend it in. When I use my fingers to apply this it literally melts into the skin so well you can't tell where the foundation begins and ends, I just look like I have beautiful skin - the fact that Stromboli is a dead on match for me also helps with this. I barely need a pump to cover my entire face and get a nice medium coverage - if you want more coverage in certain areas you can add a bit more by gently tapping it in with fingers. I did this on my cheeks and it covered up my pigmentation spots nicely, I didn't have to use as much concealer with this. It dries to a semi-matte, slightly luminous (but not shiny!) finish. I could see this emphasising texture badly if you have textured skin, though I don't have much texture so it looked fine on me.

The "weightless" claims are true - I don't feel like I have ANYTHING on my skin when I'm wearing this, it is that comfortable. It photographs beautifully too.

HOWEVER. I have normal-oily skin and I don't find this helps in controlling my oils at all - which is fine, because it doesn't claim to, but it's certainly not EL Double Wear. It wears fine on my cheeks, which are normal, but like with most foundations that don't mattify me, my t-zone starts to get shiny a couple of hours in, so this for me is definitely not a retouch-free product, I have to blot/powder. I notice some slight fading around the 5 hour mark and it also starts to bunch up around the sides of my nose.

So this is my conclusion : beautiful finish, lightweight, great shade match - but average wear time. For the price that it is, I don't think this is particularly special and have to give it 3 lipsticks out of 5.

The company advertises that this is medium coverage, but I found this to be very sheer. I prefer medium to full coverage so that I can cover up my hyperpigmentation spots on my forehead. The formula blends very easily and doesn't crease. The touch up blender is a very nice instrument to blend out the foundation but I use a beauty blender or a brush. If you are looking for a more sheer foundation stick this might be for you.

Lip Gloss -NARS -Lip Gloss (All Shades)

on 8/29/2017 6:05:00 AM

I have this in a few colors, yet my favorite is the shade Orgasm, which is an almost completely universally-flattering coral pink shade. The lip gloss is not as sticky as many other glosses. This tends to fade evenly. I love that after using this my lips feel moisturized the rest of the day.

Lipstick -NARS -Audacious (All)

I have this in the color Orgasm. This is such a universally beautiful coral pink shade that I think would flatter any skin tone. The formula is very creamy and blendable. This has almost one swipe color. I love that this lipstick doesn't have any perfume-y taste to it. I find this fades evenly and also is not drying at all. My more detailed review video is below.

Concealers -NARS -Radiant Creamy Concealer

on 8/29/2017 3:27:00 AM

Where do I start with this concealer.....firstly do NOT use this on rosacea dry skin, my skin looks flaky, dry and not natural with this concealer on. I thought it would be great to be able to cover up the red dry patches I have next to my nose but bad bad idea, this made it worse. Plus the shades are very funny, chantilly is way to light and vanilla way to pink. I think I'll have to stick to an all over foundation from now on as unfortunately no concealer seems to help me. I saw rave reviews about this so bit the bullet and bought it. Please if you have skin like mine don't get sucked in.

Blush -NARS -Sin

This is such a beautiful blush color. It's a bruise-y color, absolutely perfect for fall and winter looks. There's no glitter as far as I can tell, but the blush gives a very nice sheen to the face. It last forever on the face, and a little goes a long way. Definitely worth it.

Blush -NARS -Orgasm Blush

on 8/29/2017 1:01:00 AM

This is a very pretty blush. However, it is not 'universally flattering' as so many people claim. It definitely looks ashy on deeper skintones (if you're darker and want a nars blush that works like orgasm, I think torrid would be a good one to try), but for a lot of fairer people like myself, it looks great. I don't have an issue with gold shimmer. I do prefer my hot mama blush from thebalm more, which is similar to this, but peachier instead of pink. But if you really like a pinky, slighty peach shimmer blush for a nice sheen, and don't mind spending a decent amount of money, this one is a good pick.
