Eye Shadow -Chanel - Long wear shadow - Desert Rose Metallic

on 8/28/2017 4:22:00 PM

A new formula shadow for Chanel which is extremely buttery and has great staying power. Desert Rose is a bronze cranberry metallic - very intense and not for everyone. It's an artsy look but can be adapted for instance just in the crease. I did an overall halo and it was stunning with my eyes which are blue with a slight green undertone. Just a smidge of brown liner is all it needed. This also works well with a soft lilac on the outer edges. The rest of the line looks pretty good too, Talpa being my next target. That one is a grey/taupe with golden shimmer. So very well created.

Foundations -Chanel - Lift Lumiere Fluid

I am 61 with dry, mature, fair skin. Always in the search for a great foundation that dries to a natural looking finish, lasts throughout the day and doesn't suck the moisture from my skin.

I normally stay away from Chanel foundations as the reviews speak to minimal coverage. I prefer a medium coverage. The Chanel description of Lift Lumiere claims medium to full coverage with a luminous finish. I get a medium finish and can go back and cover my spots to a high medium coverage. I wouldn't call this full coverage.

This is an odd foundation as it takes forever to dry down. It seems like the tackiness will never go away and then it's dry. For my skin, this has been the only non greasy formula that keeps a bit of a glow. All the other foundations that claim to be luminous ended up either disappearing or turn matte on me.

The SA matched me to 14 Ivoire. When I initially put it on my skin, it looks way too yellow for me. But when I blend it on with a brush, my complexion looks like a brighter neutral. So I guess it's actually canceling out my pink under tone.

This foundation lasts very nicely and doesn't transfer too badly.

This is a lovely foundation and definitely in my top 5.

My other favorites are:

Estée Lauder ReNutriv creme in Ecru
Lancome stick in 110 Cool
Giorgio Armani Crema Nuda in shade 2
Estée Lauder Double Wear Light in shade 1

Update: The more I use this the more I like it. Right now I would put it up there with a tie with my EL ReNutriv.

Brows -Chanel - Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil

on 8/26/2017 10:35:00 AM

foto

A few years ago I first tried pencil instead of powder for coloring my brows. I have only tried $TF & Hourglass, believing that the wedge shaped pencil would be more natural. Chanel's is a traditional pencil, but for me, I have a lot more control than with the other 2 and this one lasts on my brows until I take it off, while the others fade noticeably. I have #30. My brows are tinted a medium taupey brown. The #30 matches very well and looks completely natural. Recently, I have gotten a fair share of compliments on my brows and I think part of the reason is this pencil.

I only tried this product twice: one in the pink shade and another in the yellow one. I normally don't write reviews until I have tried a product extensively, but I wanted to leave this here in case anyone has questions about these two shades and does not have access to samples. I searched high and low for reviews on the shades of this product and could only find one on Youtube. While that reviewer and I have similar skin tones, her experience was very different from mine. I can say right off the bat that the yellow one is not for me. I am Latin, any my skin tone is very similar to America Ferrera's. I have a neutral undertone that leans yellow, and some of my foundation shades are MAC NC30 and Chanel Beige 30. My skin is combo-oily, acne-prone and I have large pores all over my face. In sum, I have messy skin. Here is what happened when I tried this product:

1) Rosee - this is the pink one. The formula feels light, non-greasy and a little goes a long way. At first, it seemed like it was going to leave a white cast on my face, but this was not the case. I wore Vitalumiere Aqua in Beige 30 on top of it, and my face looked rosy and healthy. It was a like a fresh tan with a natural glow that came from within, if that makes sense. Very pretty look! I didn't notice any shimmer or sparkles. I thought for sure that the pink shade was meant for fair skintones, but it looked surprisingly good on me. The coverage was light to medium and I could see my freckles through my foundation, which is how I like it. I applied my makeup at 10 am and left the house. By 11, I needed to blot it, but this is par for the course with me. I had lunch, ran my errands, blotted it once more and checked my face again at 4pm. By then, the foundation on my T-zone had disintegrated. My face still looked OK, but my makeup was starting to fade. I drove 2 hours back home and checked my face again once I arrived. My face looked surprisingly uniform, but it was one shade lighter (?), and this is the way it stayed until I took a shower and washed my makeup off. It was not an unnatural look, but nowhere near the tan, rosy glow I had when I first applied my makeup. In addition, I noticed that some of the product had collected in my larger pores. It wasn't anything too bad, but noticeable if you took a close look at my face. I don't know if this was caused by the foundation or the by the primer, so I'll have to figure that out. I bought a full bottle of this product in the Rosee shade, and hope it will continue to give me that natural glow I saw when I first tried it.

2) Mimosa - this is the yellow one. Remember the Youtube reviewer I mentioned above? Well, she also has medium skin tone with an olive undertone, and she prefers this one. She stated that the pink one gave her a whitish cast and that it should suit fair skins. Well, I could not disagree more. The yellow one was a disaster on me. It looked sallow, uneven, greasy and all-around unflattering. In addition, it highlighted every scar and freckle I have on my face. Go figure. After testing the yellow one, I was sure that Rosee was the right shade for me and bought a bottle.

There are two more shades - Orchidee (sheer white) and Lys (lilac). I haven't tried those, so I can't say anything about them.

I guess my point is, you'll need to try it to find out which one works for you.

Loose Powders -Chanel - Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder

I bought this powder because i love the large tub and its so hard to find a brand with as much powder as this. I'm a NC25 and Clair is a perfect match. I have oily/combi skin and this does nothing to control the oiliness. In fact i have tried most (if not all) all of Chanel's foundation and none of them controls oil, from the yester year's cream-to-powder foundation, creme foundation, compact foundation, liquid foundation, pressed powder, loose powder.. Yes! I have tried them all and nothing works. its a shame. these would most likely sit wel with dry/normal skin type

Mascara -Chanel - Le Volume De Chanel

on 8/24/2017 12:27:00 AM

Just let me add my two cents worth of feedback for this product to the already extensive reviews on MUA: I really like this mascara because of how it makes my lashes look as if I have on perfectly chosen false ones.

My lashes naturally curl, so I don't use a curler. I received this mascara, in sample size, as a gift about a week ago, yet I know that it is an expensive puppy! The first day I tried this mascara, I wiped off the applicator-brush with a tissue because I want my lashes to look natural, not overly coated with mascara. The effect was beautifully fanned lashes. I don't do my bottom lashes because my upper ones are naturally long, thick and full.

This mascara made them fuller and longer, really lush--I was really impressed.

Today, I tried the mascara without wiping off the brush, and I have to say, as I have previously read in MUA reviews for this product, there was too much applied with a wee bit of clumping. However, the mascara stayed wet long enough for me to comb through my lashes (approx. 3-5 mins.) so that I could remove the clumps and get that full, fanned look I like.

I'd say the CON in this approach was having to take the time to comb through the lashes; obviously, there are times when I wouldn't have that kind of time to do so. At the moment, this is the only CON, the cost of the mascara notwithstanding.

I'm not using the waterproof version, yet I'm not experiencing "raccoon eyes," etc. And yes, I do noticeably sweat on my face (though not constantly). Also, I like how easily the stuff washes off. I am "French trained" meaning I typically remove makeup and clean my skin with micellar water (using gentle scrubs or cleansing oils once in a while). I also use micellar water when wearing this mascara, but I also do a quick wash of my lashes (eyes, obviously, tightly shut) with Cetaphil cleansing bar (not the pump liquid) and a solid rinse following.

Voila! The mascara is completely removed!

BOTTOM LINE: If you're looking for a full, lush lash look, Le Volume de Chanel certainly does the trick! BTW, I'm using 10 Noir. I'd buy this mascara, but I won't rush out to do so. I need to do some more research as some MUA reviewers have commented on how different the applicator-brush SEEMS to be between the sample and the full-size tube, and the full-size seems to disappoint.

The applicator-brush is so KEY, isn't it? At any rate, this mascara is certainly a quality product!

Eye Shadow -Chanel - Les 4 Ombres Tisse Essentiel

I'll start by saying I'm not an eyeshadow kind of person. I wear it on special occasions usually paired with false eyelashes, but never on a daily basis. I did need a good neutral palette to enhance my natural eye, and use as a base for other eyeshadow looks. I have been looking for one for a long time, and to be honest, I was a little apprehensive about spending so much money on such a small palette with such unexciting colors. Now that I have it, I actually really love it and it is a piece missing from my collection.

Most other palettes run more brown or grey, this one is very neutral. Other palettes are more pigmented, but in my opinion, pigmentation isn't everything. What I like about this palette, and Chanel eyeshadows in general, is that the formula tends to be more elegant: easy to blend, hard to overdo. You can always build up the color, and you get a more effortless result. The combination of colors allow you to get a soft daytime look, or a smoky evening look. The colors also tend to have more dimension, and they don't look flat or one-toned. Although this is a matte palette, there is a tiny bit of shimmer in it, so that it doesn't look flat - but it still looks matte on the eyes.

If you have lots of other neutral eyeshadow palettes, if you like to wear more intense eye looks, or if you're an expert at doing eyeshadow, this probably won't be your cup of tea. If you don't have many palettes, if you like softer eyeshadow looks, and you're looking for something easy to use, this would be a great purchase. I think this is a good matte palette, and can be paired with other shimmers/colors.

Blush -Chanel - Joues Contraste Powder Blush in 370 Elegance

As we all know, Chanel products cost "the moon"! However, I think this blush is so worth the investment. It's lovely! Dense in pigment and goes on like silk. In natural light, ooh la la (as the French would say). I had a Chanel makeover done today, and the consultant used this blush on me.

I'm an older women whose makeup motto is, "less is more." The subtle glow and colour when this blush is applied is nothing short of spectacular. In natural light, it is smooth and dewy looking. It's quite dense in pigment, and the consultant advised me that you only need a little to do the trick. I'm not into drama makeup, so I typically apply it to look natural and very subtle, so this blush fits right into that type of makeup regime.

It comes with its own small brush, but I used Eco Tool brushes, and my "Full Powder" brush does a lovely job with my bronzer and my other powder blushes, so I'll likely use my Eco Too brush to apply this, too.

I would definitely recommend this blush to women who want a soft hint of colour and something that wears well.

COST: I paid $53 CAD (+tax), and I bought it at Shoppers' Drug Mart Beauty Boutique (Canada). I think the price is steep, but I know that Chanel is high-end, and thus, its products are in the high-end price range. The trade off is, however, I won't have to buy a blush anytime soon. This is August, but I think this blush will be just fine in the fall and winter seasons, too.

PACKAGING: Lovely! A nice hard case with a good quality mirror and a small blush brush. I think the blush cake is well protected and won't be prone to cracking.

I would, in theory, buy it again because of the quality of the product. I won't shell out, however, unless I can really splurge on it.

Colors are wonderful especially for a person who prefers natural earthy look. BUT I have to say there is nothing especial about it other than that. Colors don't look muddy when applied but their intensity is really weak save the dark brown. I really wish they were more intense and creamy. So I guess Chanel need to look back at the quality of this palette.

Treatments (Face) -Chanel - Hydra Beauty Micro Serum

I've had this product for about six months, and I had a chance to test in the Winter, Spring and Summer. I have skin that was excessively oily and very acne-prone between the ages of 13 and 38. I've spent thousands of dollars throughout the years in topical and oral medications for this condition, and in religious visits to facialists and dermatologists. Last year, my skin finally began normalizing itself, though I still get acne and excess oiliness during certain days of the month (you know those). Overall, I am much happier with my skin now. With this being said, here are my thoughts on this product:

Pros:

1) Did not irritate my skin. I am not particularly sensitive, but several Chanel products irritate my skin, ranging from a mild burning sensation (Le Lift, Le Blanc, Sublimage, Le Beige foundation) to full-blown hives that required a visit to the ER (Base Ombre a Paupieres). This is surprisingly mild.

2) It works. While if feels light on the skin, it does some heavy-duty moisturizing, at least on my skin type. I have a stubborn patch of flaky skin on the side of my mouth that does not respond to moisturizers, even ones prescribed by my dermatologist. This, along with an oil by Fresh (Seaberry) are the only two products that control those flakes.

3) The packaging is pretty and hygienic. The pump feels sturdy and efficient, and I like how much product it dispenses.

4) The product has a mild, fresh and pleasant scent that dissipates quickly. While this is a plus for me, it may pose a problem for those who are sensitive to fragrances. The texture of the product feels smooth, elegant and spa-like as well.

Cons:

1) Overpriced. I paid around 100 dollars for the smaller bottle, and I suspect that the formula is mostly fragrant glycerin.

2) Can make foundation too shiny and sticky for my taste. I don't get the whole obsession with greasy-looking skin (AKA "dewy"), and this product can definitely do that. If you like that finish, however, this should work well for you.

3) May not be moisturizing enough in the dead of Winter. At that point, I switch to the Hydra Beauty Crème.

4) Too moisturizing in the Summer. On those days, I just wash my face and skip moisturizer altogether. Really, what's the point?

Would I buy this product again? Probably.

I think people with the following skin types may enjoy this product: slightly dry, normal, slightly oily.

Very oily types - unnecessary, unless you wish to highlight the shiny aspect of your skin.

Very dry types - this won't be moisturizing enough for you, unless you layer it with a richer product.

Happy shopping!

Mascara -Chanel - inimitable

on 8/13/2017 1:49:00 AM

The mascara was pricey but I can't remember exactly how much! I was so disappointed. The wand bristles were too short and it did absolutely nothing for my lashes accept make them look clumpy.
I don't think I was meant to use expensive cosmetics and will stick to Max Factor Clump Defy! Always great results but don't we all fancy a change now and again? Oh well, save my money and stick with what works.

Foundations -Chanel - Le Teint Ultra Tenue Ultrawear Flawless Foundation

I have been usinf this foundation for 4 years now. It has quite a light coverage, I have to say. I use it along with the Le Teint powder.

I tent to stay away from full coverage foundations as I feel like they make my skin loom worse. This one gives me a natural, flawless finish and my skin looks like silk in pictures.

I am under the suspicion that it clogs my pores a little. But if it does, then it is very little.

I used to use a brush to apply this foundation and it worked fine. Nowadays I use a beauty blender. Never had a problem spreading it, but then again my skin is oily so maybe that is why.

I try other foundations but I do feel lile this js my match!
