Foundations -The Body Shop -Matte Clay Skin Clarifying Foundation

My go-to foundation has always been MAC Studio fix fluid (NC15). However, it can be expensive to constantly replace.

I bought this foundation on a whim in an attempt to find a more affordable option to use on a daily basis.

IT IS AMAZING!

Pros
- Lightweight formula
- Lasts long: 8+ hours (I played ultimate frisbee for 3 hours and didn’t have a tomato face)
- Extremely matte, no need for powder whatsoever
-Medium to full coverage
- Contains tea tree oil which is great for acne-prone skin
- Cruelty-free
- Affordable

Cons
- The liquid can dry out quickly during application but it’s easy to blend
- It could be a little drying, I haven’t had any problems so far (after 3 months’ use)

I use the shade Railay Beach 014 which matches my skin tone perfectly. I will apply it over moisturiser or primer and set it using a moisturising face mist for a slight dewy finish.

At the moment it’s The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Face Mist which has a refreshing rose scent.

Liquid -The Body Shop -Shade Adjusting Drops in Lightning

Works well when used with most of my foundations, which are not oil-free for the most part. This is a densely pigmented pink-toned ivory colour that does work when mixed with foundations - most drugstore foundations' lightest shades are too dark on me and this helps get it to match my skin tone far more closely. Even at a ratio of 2/3 foundation to 1/3 of this stuff, it doesn't affect the overall finish of the foundation too much. My main gripe is the bottle - I like the idea of trying to reliably measure out this stuff drop by drop each day but after the first use, the pipette barely works as there is some stuff stuck inside it still and it's so viscous that it's too thick to properly redistribute itself within the bottle. Either I get no product out using the pipette, or I get a white foundation flood of Biblical proportions splattering all over my hand, knees, and the mirror. Either-or, no exceptions. I am somewhat impressed by just how bad the Body Shop's dropper is, I feel it takes some effort to design something so spectacularly awful at performing the sole task required of it. Nowadays I just tip a little out the neck of the bottle and use it that way instead, it's actually less messy than trying to use the dropper and having it paint bomb everything in the vicinity.

It isn't the cheapest thing out there, but does effectively lighten foundations and blends well enough with silicone-based foundations, or those with oils in (like jojoba or sweet almond). I don't think it would work for oil-free stuff. Compared to the Illamasqua white skin base, this works just as well but is less costly. It does make a whole lot of foundations more accessible to the palest of us out there, so this is a staple in my make-up drawer.

I loved this product! It left me glowing and didnt make my skin feel greasy or anything. But it wasnt as hydrating on some parts of my skin (like around my nose). It didnt break me out either which was a bonus! I have semi-sensitive skin, and I didnt get a reaction or anything so thats blessed. But I would be wary if you do have extremely sensitive skin since this is heavily fragranced.

I bought this today when I found it at winners and found many good reviews online about it so figured why not.
When I got home I immediately looked up the ingredients as I do with every new product and immediately was disappointed and annoyed I had bought it in the first place.
Issue #1 - Phenoxyethanol is the 6th ingredient. A proven harmful ingredient so not something I'm putting on my face!
Issue #2 - wheat germ oil. If you have acne or sensitive to products which cause bad breakouts then stay away!!! Very pore clogging and known irritant.
Issue #3 - fragrance is middle of the ingredients so again not something I'm putting on my face.

Will be returning tonight! On to the next....

Blush -The Body Shop -All-In-One Blusher

I have this in the pale pink shade Marshmallow and the light apricot Macaroon, both soft matte blushes. Didn't like any of the other shades as they were shimmery or too dark for me.

These are relatively cheap and wear well throughout the day. The pale pink Marshmallow shade gives a soft and subtle rosy flush while Macaroon has a nice peaches-and-cream overall look. They also work well as eyeshadows. They aren't super-pigmented as they're intended to give a natural-appearing pop of colour, so if I want to use them as eyeshadow then I need to use a decent primer first.
I wouldn't recommend these if you want a very bright or bold blush look.

The packaging is a bit flimsy and the clasp isn't the most secure, one accidentally fell out my bag once and the powder broke and went everywhere because the lid flew open. I liked the colour enough I bought a new one, but I'm a little disappointed it was so easy to break. On the plus side, it's slim and compact and doesn't take up lots of space in my make-up bag, suitable for carrying around for touch-ups.
These also have the benefit of being relatively cheap, as decent matte drugstore blushes can be surprisingly difficult to find, at least here in the UK. Offsetting this is that it is the Body Shop, where sales assistants will repeatedly ask you if you need help every 3 seconds once you enter the shop. I order mine online now.

Lotions/ Creams -The Body Shop -Shea Body Butter

The best body moisturizer I've ever tried. Leaves my dry, sensitive skin as soft as a baby's bottom. I don't LOVE the scent but it's not bad and it doesn't linger. For a body butter it absorbs pretty quickly and isn't greasy. Cruelty free, decent price - great buy all around.

Treatments (Face) -The Body Shop -DROPS OF YOUTH Bouncy Sleeping Mask

How would anyone sleep with this on? It's sticky, gummy and really uncomfortable to use.
I thought i had put on too much but it turns out, even the smallest amount applied, yields the same result. Simply awful and a complete waste of money. Am so very disappointed.

This is my favourite hand sanitiser. I don't know what absinthe actually smells like but the fragrance in this product is fresh and amazing. Never smelled anything else like it.

Treatments (Face) -The Body Shop -DROPS OF YOUTH Youth Liquid Peel

This is a real gem of a product to have in your bathroom for when you need your skin to look more clear and radiant ASAP. I'm kind of amazed how much this does (visually) for my skin in the short time the treatment is actually on my face. On me it balls up almost immediately when I start to work it into the skin, so I tend to dot it around the face and then work section by section. Once I've covered all of my face I just wash it right off. I don't think it's all that hard to remove like others have complained about - maybe it's because I don't let it sit on my skin for very long at all? I don't think you need to in order to get results. I do dermaplane my face semi-regularly, so I usually don't have all that much peach fuzz, but still - with a liberal amount of warm water it comes off pretty easily.

I don't use this too often (once a week at the very most), mostly because of the amount of alcohol denat it contains. The smell of alcohol is very, very intense and a bit unpleasant. I bought this on a whim after hearing great things about it, but I usually try to avoid alcohol denat in my skincare as much as I can. I think it's unfortunate that it's the second ingredient in this peel, though I'm no chemist - it might be necessary for the exfoliation to take place. Since alcohol is brightening, I can imagine that some of the instant radiance can be attributed to that.

I also want to address the claims/test results on their website, because they are a bit weird.
* "Instantly feels like dead skin cells are lifted" - feels like? That's not a result, that's a feeling that may very well be attributed to the product simulating the feeling of dead skin slouching off. It has no bearing on the actual results of the product.
* "Peels off impurities and pollutants" + "Skin feels cleansed from day’s pollution" - again, feels like. And does cleanse "day's pollution" even mean? If you're referring to washing the dirt that have accumulated on your skin during the day, the most basic bar of soap would do the same. Doesn't mean it's good for the skin.

Maybe I'm being nitpicky... Either way I'm on the fence about whether I'd repurchase this product. I do love the instant glow boost it provides, but I'm unsure about whether it has any long-time effect and iffy about the alcohol content.

+ Cruelty free
+ Vegan
+ Gives an instant radiance to the skin
+ Pores look clearer immediately after use

- Alcohol denat as second ingredient
- Not sure how much it does for my skin in the long run

Moisturizers -The Body Shop -Tea Tree Mattifying Moisture Gel

I like this but it isn't my HG. Works well to mattify skin but it isn't a great base for makeup and it stops mattifying so well after a few months of use. Still searching for the perfect moisturizer.

Toners -The Body Shop -Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner

This toner works great in conjunction with the same line's cleanser as far as oil control and reducing breakouts goes. However, I find that it loses effectiveness after a couple months of us and so I will be taking a break for a few months and then use it again to reap the benefits.

Cleansers -The Body Shop -Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash

I really enjoy this face wash. It really does control oil and completely eliminate acne like no one's business. It will last forever because one bottle comes with a ton of product. The only downside of this (and it's mostly just due to my overly sensitive skin) is that it can make the face look red and irritated right after washing because of how powerful it is. I'm going to try using it only at night and a more mild cleanser in the mornings and see how that works.

Moisturizers -The Body Shop -OILS OF LIFE INTENSELY REVITALISING FACIAL OIL

on 5/6/2018 10:00:00 AM

I bought this at TJMaxx so I didn’t pay the full price for it. My skin does very well with oil. I use this all over including on my eyelids and under eyes at nights. It is a great product and you can see the great results even on the following day. Due to the oily nature of this product, it is better that is not used under makeup as it lifts and removes anything on top.

I actually used to really like this stuff in its old incarnation. I used it day and night, about seven years back, having recovered from personal dermatitis. What in the Sam Hill has happened since then? The new version's baby powder scent has a horrible, overpowering alcohol-like tang, to the point where it actually burns to put it on. Woke up with a swath of raised bumps. Into the bin this went. BOOOOOO!
