Eyeliner -e.l.f. Cosmetics -Waterproof Gel Eyeliner Pencil

on 8/20/2018 9:48:00 AM

I have a serious love/hate relationship with this eyeliner. In some ways, it performs beautifully. In others, it fails tragically.

I'll get the good points out of the way first:

- The price. At $4, I can't think of a better deal on a cruelty-free, vegan gel liner pencil. That truly is a fantastic price.

- The staying power. This stuff could withstand a monsoon. Typically with gel liners, they will transfer to my upper eyelid (I have slightly hooded eyes) within a couple hours. This liner does not. It's great smudged out and set with a bit of soft black shadow. At the end of the day, it washes off easily, but stays on until you want to take it off.

- The color. This is a very black pencil liner. Usually liners of this kind can lean a little gray, but this is definitely a stark black.

Now for the negative. The packaging. It is a DISASTER. The pencil must be sharpened, which I already don't like, but it's highly problematic. Even with an e.l.f. sharpener, I still run into issues. Every time I sharpen this liner, the tip breaks off and I lose about a half an inch of product. I then have to sharpen much farther down in order to get to the product, and then I have to hope that it won't break again. This is VERY frustrating, as it's resulted in a lot of wasted product. It's clear that this liner is too soft, and doesn't sit properly within the wood packaging. This should have been a twist-up style, and I really hope e.l.f. takes heed from the other reviews I've seen on this product that state the same problem (so I know it's not just a bad batch).

Overall, this is a good product, but the packaging does make me hesitant to purchase again. I likely will since it's so inexpensive, but if another vegan option comes along that performs as well as this does on my eyes, I'll opt for that instead.

Loose Powders -e.l.f. Cosmetics -Studio High Definition Powder

I don't use much powder on my face, dry/sensitive skin. Recently I saw a tip online (Wayne Goss) recommending using no-color powder to enhance blending of eyeshadow. I already had this (Sheer) so gave it a whirl, and it works great! I usually apply just a bit of this over my eye primer (Ulta Nude Matte) just in the crease area (not on lid or under brows), then matte shadow over it in the crease. Keeps the shadow from grabbing and helps it blend more smoothly/evenly. Goss also states this can be used over problem shadows, and that it can help moderate shimmer. (He uses the RCMA powder.)

The best part is it doesn't affect the color of the shadow placed over (or under) it, unlike a base eyeshadow. My lippie rating is for this specific use, I haven't tried this on my face, I don't need a mattifier.

Moisturizers -e.l.f. Cosmetics -Nourishing Night Cream

Like its daily hydration cousin, this does what it says in moisturising, but it also feels heavy and leaves a greasy film on my skin. In my opinion, this is not the best for very oily skin like mine, its more suited for dry skin.

Powders -e.l.f. Cosmetics -High Definition Powder - Soft Luminance

This was the first time I bought a setting powder. I had no idea it was basically just glitter and I was ready to throw it out but honestly, after trying it, I wasn't too mad about it. The glitter is not overpowering. The lasting power is quite shocking to me. My foundation stays put and it prevents it from separating if I have a layer of primer underneath. However, I am not a big fan of the dial at the top. I thought that it was a great idea but it creates a bigger mess than needed. I would purchase it again after testing out other powders.

Eyes -e.l.f. Cosmetics -Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter

Fabulous! The concealer is a gorgeous light liquid, suitable even for extremely fair and sensitive skin. It doesn't settle into creases, lasts a long time, and sits well under or over foundation, and blends like a dream. The highlighter is a little to matte and sticky for my liking, but it looks natural. My one bugbear is that I always run out of the concealer before the highlighter, and end up chucking it out so I can get a new one. One thing to note is that the two products are best used separately - I use the concealer under my eyes and the highlighter on my cheekbones. This eliminates the messy, sticky situation when both products are used together, as described by other reviews.

Eyes -e.l.f. Cosmetics -Studio High Definition Undereye Setting Powder

I love this stupid powder and wish they would sell it at a full size setting powder. I use this to set under my eyes since I only wear concealer daily, but when I do a full face, this is the powder I set with. It's just great. I heard people compare this to their regular hd setting powder and they're completely different. The hd powder is much much more matte and makes my undereyes look cakey and crepey, while this mini powder makes them look naturally flawless. The packaging sucks because the powder just flies everywhere, but hey, it's a great powder

I have Cruisin' Chic, which is a lovely shimmery bronzy shade. I've had it for several months now, and no issues with the product drying up on me.

I am open to trying more shades from this line. I think this eyeshadow is pretty great! It's comparable to Maybelline's Color Tattoos. Excellent color payoff, smooth application, and impressive staying power.

Overall, this is something I would buy again. Recommended!

Liquid -e.l.f. Cosmetics -Flawless Finish Foundation

It's August and I'm tan. I normally am a medium part of the year and light to medium in the dead of winter. Not wanting to spend $$$$ on a foundation that I can only really use for maybe 8 weeks, I happened to see this at my grocery store. First I saw the $8 one and then underneath I saw the $6 option. I chose 'Tan' and that was the darkest option. I figured for $6 I can't buy anything else, not even a concealer so I'd give it a chance. Yes, it has a scent and I have an outstanding sense of smell but this honestly doesn't bother me one bit. The coverage is similar to Estee Double Wear as others have said.

For me, $6 is doable for a foundation that I only can wear a few weeks out of the year. I like it and would repurchase.

Primer/ Corrector -e.l.f. Cosmetics -Aqua Beauty Primer Mist

on 8/9/2018 12:14:00 AM

For the umpteenth time, I’ve picked an e.l.f. product with a decent formula but terrible packaging . . . When I say decent formula, I just mean this is a genuinely hydrating, lightweight spray that makes my skin feel nourished. It does virtually nothing as a primer; regular old moisturizer seems to work better under my makeup than this. And to echo previous reviewers, definitely do not spray this directly on your face! When it comes to spray bottles, this falls firmly in the Super Soaker category — no gentle mist but rather an aggressive squirt that will certainly ruin your makeup if you use this to set it. The cap also falls off easily and the way the bottle is designed makes it look classy, but is deceiving when it comes to how much product you actually get. I was able to salvage this as a light nighttime moisturizer, but ultimately, it’s not worth your money.

DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN!!! I had a huge allergic reaction to this product the last time it was this bad I used a Mary K foundation I had little bumbs all over my face and down my arms and my face was super warm to the touch. The first time I used I was fine but once I put it on my face again it stung. It’s good if you don’t have sensitive skin my little sister loves it but it’s NOT for people like me with sensitive skin.

I love using this brush to contour. It applies my bronzer at the right spots. I also use it to do some nose contour too. The bristle is soft and feels nice when I use it. It's also very affordable.

I heard Tati mention this product on her channel and I got it. I have it in the color rose gold and I wear this almost every day on my lids just by itself to make my eyes pop. It is pretty pigmented and dries down quickly. I wouldn't purchase it again because I like trying different products, but I would definitely recommend to other people!
