Hair -e.l.f. -Flyaway Tamers

on 4/1/2018 12:32:00 PM

These are like pieces of the hook side of velcro that you sort of slide into your hair when it's up to keep it back. They are approximately three inches long and two inches wide at their widest part and are shaped like bows.

I think they're meant to wear when washing your face or doing your makeup, and they would work for that, but I wear them to keep my thick bangs back when I play sports. And they really work! They keep a lot of hair back (not just flyaways) and they stay in place even through vigorous exercise. They're great for sports because they have no metal or hard plastic (which aren't allowed in sports leagues, typically), and they work way better than headbands.

Two things though: One, you could probably make these yourself by cutting the hook side of a piece of velcro from a craft or dollar store to whatever shape you want. Two, they pull a significant amount of hair out of your ponytail when you take them out, so you have to do your hair after your makeup or whatnot.

But I highly recommend them!

Blush -e.l.f. -Monochromatic Multi-Stick

on 3/31/2018 12:53:00 PM

foto

The e.l.f. Monochromatic Multi-Stick is a product developed to be used on the eyes, cheeks, and lips.

Offered in four shades; Glistening Peach, Sparkling Rose, Luminous Berry, and Radiant Bronze, the Monochromatic Multi-Stick is intended to be used to complete a quick, natural toned makeup.

One of the problems inherent in multi-use products is consumers prefer a different level of pigmentation/intensity for eyes, cheeks, and lips. While I think all four shades do well as cheek colors (on medium to light skin), you will probably find them not pigmented enough for other than the most natural look on eyes and lips.

Be forewarned; you receive very little product. The product itself measures 3/4" in diameter, and is 1/2" high (.155 oz). If you really like the product, and do apply it on eyes, cheeks, and lips - you're going to use it up very quickly. If you decide you want to include one or more of the shades in your daily makeup routine, then to avoid frustration buy several in your favorite shade(s). The nice thing is, even if you must buy multiples, doing so won't break the bank, as the e.l.f. Monochromatic Multi-Sticks are only $4.00 (usd) apiece.

Because of the shape of the product, I didn't find it possible to apply it directly from the tube onto either my eyelids or lips. For both, I swiped a flat taklon-bristled concealer brush over the product and applied it to both eyelids and lids.

The formula is quite smooth and creamy, and while it did last for several hours on my cheeks (over primer and foundation), I got a much shorter wear time on lids and lips. But, because the product isn't highly pigmented, it just sort of faded away - although for those with oily lids, I would worry about creasing.

The most intense of the four shades is Luminous Berry. Radiant Bronze has a nice, copper-toned shimmer - good for that "sun-kissed look" when applied to the high points of the face. Glistening Peach and Sparkling Rose are the lightest of the four shades, and will probably work best on the very lightest skin tones.

Eyeliner -e.l.f. -Brightening Eyeliner

foto

I got the black one. It doesn't last more than a few blinks on the waterline, bummer because that's what I bought it for. It also took a few swipes to build it up to full pigmentation, which was more of a medium grey shade than black. This disappointed me. It also seemed to somehow patchily erase itself when I went over it more than once. However, once fussed with a bit, it seemed to be okay on the lash line and on the eyelid. No smudging, and doesn't stay wet the way some kohl pencils will. This is a much waxier pencil and not a kohl at all, more similar in consistency to a brow pencil than an eyeliner really.

I really like the packaging, it's just a simple pencil which I have been sorely missing lately with all the gimmicky new marker-type products out there, and I like the sharpener in the cap.

But I wouldn't buy this again because I feel like I have to outsmart the pencil when I use it, and find ways around and against its qualities and tendencies, instead of it simply cooperating and doing its job!

Makeup Brushes -e.l.f. -Studio Small Stipple Brush

I just joined this site and found it out about it because I googled info on this brush since I own one myself for a couple years now and honestly I haven’t found out how to make it work nicely for me.

I tried with liquid concealer and it cracked all my skin before I could finish my makeup.
The material feels abrasive on my skin and the powder falls all over other areas when applying, I don’t think I would purchase again, even when I believe the material quality is really good because it’s on perfect conditions but the execution and handling is not the best.

Makeup Brushes -e.l.f. -Studio ultimate blending brush $6

This is my final touch, "perfecting" brush. I use it as part of my final step, which involves checking my finished face in a different mirror (by the window). I bring this, my blush brush, and sponge to check blending and ensure everything is in place, properly blended, even color, and seamless. I don't use powder foundations, though if I did I'd certainly try applying it with this. This is an amazing brush, especially for the price!

This is my favorite face brush of all time. You can use it for anything! It doesn't shed at all and it makes application flawless. I normally use it for liquid foundations & I think I'm going to end up purchasing another one of these to use with powder!

Liquid -e.l.f. -Flawless Finish Foundation

I have to say, I was really surprised by this product! I bought it just because I was out of my usual foundation, and just needed something cheap and cheerful for the time being, but it has such a beautiful finish! It looks Incredibly natural, yet still smoothes out every last pore, covers redness and discoloration, and doesn't look too dewy, or too matte. The coverage can vary depending on what you use to apply it. If you use a makeup sponge, it's light to medium, but it can be very easily applied with a brush for a higher coverage. My only slight criticism is that it does oxidize a little bit, but not enough to warrant any concern, so long as you blend it down your neck. And praise the heavens, IT COMES WITH A PUMP!! Overall, love this foundation, and may even use it as my go-to now.

Concealers -e.l.f. -HD Lifting

I love this concealer. Its thin, spreads and blends easily over my makeup, doesnt look cakey, sets beautifully under my NYX setting powder. I have dry skin so I dont like most concealers, I find that they cake heavily. This fades nicely, only lasts a couple of hours but so what, for $3 bucks Ill take it.
My only complaint is I chose the wrong color, way too light for me but its workable for now until I order from ELF again. Try this you wont regret it.

Eye Primer -e.l.f. -Essential Eyelid Primer - Sheer

Maybe I would wear this on a no-makeup day so my lids can just have a finished look. For me, it was a little oily (though I have combination skin) and I had some transfer of eyeliner. Would not repurchase, though. My favorites are shadow insurance, Lorac eye primer, and Urban Decay primer potion - in order. If anyone would be interested.

Mascara -e.l.f. -Essential Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara

Cheap brow gel that gets the job done. Both sides are the same product. I just use it on my brows, not my lashes. It doesn’t leave brows hard or crispy. It doesn’t flake either. This is like flexible hold hair spray for your brows! It does a good job of holding them in place. No fly aways. I still like to use a tinted brow gel with this once it dries to add more texture and fullness. Only complaint is the wands are quite large. If you have thinner brows, this may be a problem. Otherwise a great product.

Eye Shadow -e.l.f. -Best Friend Eyeshadow Duo

So excited to finally see these at my local WalMart that I picked up 2 of these: Peach Squad and Pink Pal. Peach Squad has a strong peach and a shimmery copper/gold shade - beautiful compliment on my blue/green eyes that literally makes them pop! The other duo has a pale pink and cool-toned brown that is nice for a minimalistic every day look. Both duos have good pigmentation, little kickback, and wear well for many hours. Packaging is minimal, cheap, but I don’t travel with these so it’s fine, and I’d much rather not have useless applicators or tiny mirrors in the package which increases size/bulk. What especially draws me to these duos is that I have hooded eyes and can’t really rock multiple shadows like those with more generous lids can so shadow duo sets are perfect for me, especially since I will use highlighter for inner corners or under the brow bone if I’m in the mood. If you like any of the combos I’d recommend picking these up, they are a hidden drug store gem. Very inexpensive and good quality.

Makeup Brushes -e.l.f. -Beautifully Precise Swirl Foundation Brush

I purchased this as it looks like it could be an affordable dupe for the rms beauty foundation brush that is a whole lot pricier. My preference when applying foundation is a blending sponge (for liquid foundations) or my fingers (for rms “Un” Cover-up) as brushes tend to leave streaks on my skin. Using this brush to apply the rms is brilliant. No streaks (yay!) and it really helps to make the product one with my skin giving me an even more natural finish (if that’s possible) than when applied with my fingers. It is more expensive than most of the other e.l.f brushes I’ve bought in past, and I’m not sure it should be because aside from the appearance I don’t think the bristles are as soft as they could be, however I have no regrets adding this to my collection. I haven’t tried it with a liquid foundation as yet, but will update once I have an opinion on that.

Brows -e.l.f. -Instant Lift Brow Pencil

This replaced my 30$ Lise Watier eyebrow pencil. For 2.50$ CAD it is unbelievable ! The packaging is sturdy. The spooky is the best I’ve used, the pencil is creamy enough to glide on without dragging but yet it is long lasting even through 12 hour shifts and running, even on my oily complexion. The two cons someone might run into is colour selection as it’s only three shades and none are light. Both the taupe and medium brown work on my brows. Also, someone with thinner brows might have trouble if they have to draw most of them on as it doesn’t sharpen. But I only use to fill in so it’s no trouble for me! For 2.50$ I will be buying 2-3 more and keeping them in my makeup bag.
