Polishes -Chanel - Le Vernis 572 Emblematique

on 10/19/2017 6:55:00 AM

Chanel Emblematique is a blue based dark red nail polish. Perfect on hands and feet. It is beautiful but looks very dupeable. Flormar 385 red velvet is the exact dupe for this beautiful color. They look exactly same both from their bottles and after applying on the nails. Sally Hanson 575 red handed looks a tone or two lighter on the bottle but after applying on nails they look very similar. If you have either of them there is no point getting both. I love this color, it is a classic color that will never go out of style and perfect for year around.

This is one of my absolutely favourite shades of Barbie pink. It is a blue-based medium shade of bubblegum pink - truly a Barbie girl shade! I love wearing it as a pedicure, I have worn it so many times on my toes that I have lost count. It also looks stunning as a mani, and has an excellent formula. One coat is all you need for a fully opaque, creme finish with no streaks or patches. It applies very easily and dries quickly and to a shiny finish, though I think adding topcoat to this one gives it extra shine and really makes it pop. It has excellent staying power, lasting around 5 days as a mani when paired with base and top coat and even longer as a pedi. It is a very flattering colour that I believe would be universally flattering on all skin tones. I would highly recommend this shade for anyone who loves pink or wants an easy one-coater they can pop on or anyone looking for a go-to pedi shade. This is an amazing shade of bubblegum pink, one of my absolute favourites. A+

Moisturizers -Sulwhasoo - First Care Activating Serum

I'm glad I bought a tester size to try. This was supposed to be one of Sulwhasoo's star products. Everybody loved it (...again, the hype had finally caught me...), everybody said it was "one of their holy grail skin cares" ... "a 'must-have' " and you know, all that jazz.

Well, I was carried by the hype. Despite that, I did a research on it. I even made a poll on how many people satisfied, and compared to how many did not. Considering that I didn't want to splurge my money on a pricey skincare (around $ 70), hence I MUST do some research!
Eventually, I decided to get a tester size (8 ml) for just $ 6 and I'm glad I didn't splurge on a full size.

I was excited to try. To be honest, I felt like I finally fit in to the hype. I thought that I finally belong to the group that (will) used this skincare and will eventually love it.

Firstly, I loved the smell. It had a light scent of ginseng. Secondly, I loved how it felt on my skin (possibly, the placebo effect...?). Thirdly, it brightened up my skin after I used it 1-2 days, and it made my face less oily.

However, there came the downside. It gave me breakouts! I had small bumps all over my forehead and on my cheeks! Optimistic, I thought this was just a first reaction, so I continued using it until I know that I HAD ENOUGH!

Sigh... I was disappointed.

Another part of me couldn't blame Sulwhasoo because it could be solely my sensitive skin. But another part of me thought, with such price?! It should work with every skin type, that's it. I used Clinique and other drugstore skin cares which were much cheaper than Sulwhasoo and I encountered no breakout.

Sulwhasoo could be very pricey because of their natural/organic ingredients, but again, I must reemphasize that WITH SUCH PRICE, IT MUST WORK WITH EVERY SKIN TYPE. Although most people were satisfied, yet not a few encountered breakouts. And it was very unfortunate especially for those that purchased a full set (approx. $ 900) and needed to stop using it.

I felt very fortunate that I trusted my intuition to go for a $6 tester size, instead of jump to splurging on a $70 full size. No heart break, Sulwhasoo, though you gave me breakouts. This is a happy goodbye.

Lipstick -Clarins - Rouge Prodige - Rosewood 109

on 10/19/2017 5:24:00 AM

This stuff is expensive but amazing! I am a lipstick lover but also experience dry lips. I really like a matte lip, but often they are too drying to be comfortable. I stumbled upon this and decided to try it out. It has a nice package, which feels luxury. What really is amazing about this is the formula: a soft, gel-like substance which gives a very smooth and very soft feeling on the lips. It's almost as if there are silicones in this, because it feels like that silicony primers on your face. Some people hate that, but I love that soft, smooth feeling. The color is also amazing; a 'my lips but better'-tone. It's not long wearing and not very pigmented, but I don't mind, because it feels like a lip balm but with a nice sheer color, easy to apply on the go when you don't have a mirror. The consistency is really unique, so I am looking for lipsticks with similar formula.
Cons: Unfortunately, the rouge prodige line is discontinued in Europe I believe, and the joli rouge line is just not the same. And I wish there was more in the bullet, you don't get a lot of product for your money.

this stuff is AWESOME! It works sooo well with my skin. let me tell you, my skin is oily as heck. like, I had to re-powder my nose multiple times an hour with the other stuff I was using, and it cost like twice as much. THIS is cheap, comes with a mirror, and the best stinking finishing powder ive used. save yourself the money and annoying powder breaks, get this!

Scrubs -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash pink grapefruit foaming scrub

on 10/19/2017 4:46:00 AM

foto

I really wanted to like this but it was too harsh for my skin. I felt like my skin was really irritated and stripped of moisture after using and when I apply any moisturizer/skin care on top, it felt like my skin could not take it? I don't even have sensitive skin to begin with.

I'm not a wasteful sort of person but I will probably use it up as a dish soap. Life is too short trying to waste 3-4 months panning this product and risk ruining my skin texture for a long long time.

Lip Treatments -Chapstick - 3 in 1 Total Hydration

on 10/19/2017 4:00:00 AM

foto

For straight up, non-tinted, non-gloss, stick lip balm, I prefer Chapstick Medicated - softer and not as waxy as original chapstick. But as I couldn't easily find it, I purchased the Total Hydration 3 in 1 in Soothing Oasis. While I generally liked it (fragrance and flavour free, nice click-closed tube), overall I found it to be lacking for a few reasons.

1. It was too soft and mushy. I'd sometimes end up with a glob coming off on a swipe. Need to be really careful about not exposing too much product or it will bend/break easily.
2. Although it seemed like plenty of product, I used the entire tube in a month. I don't think I've used up a tube of any lip balm in a month. I think because it's softer, it gets used up more quickly. Or maybe...
3. The hydration didn't last. I had to reapply more often. I think because it's softer, more emollient, it wears off more quickly. Thus gets used up faster. And...
4. It's not cheap - about 2x cost/ounce as the Chapstick Medicated. I'd be spending a small fortune on this if I used it as my only moisturising balm.

So, while not a terrible product, I won't be repurchasing.

Moisturizers -La Mer - The Moisturizing Matte Lotion

on 10/19/2017 3:09:00 AM

foto

It is the replacement of the Oil Absorbing Lotion from La Mer.
Let me point out the biggest difference from the previous product. The first ingredient is water, while the original lotion did not contain water, only seaweed extract (Algae), which is the part of the "Miracle Broth". Unfortunately it is impossible to know whether the amount of the Broth is the same as in the original formula and then it contains much less oil (emollients) or the concentration of the Broth is the same (or just above) the next ingredient (Squalane). I believe that this lotion contains between 5-10% Squalane which might mean that the concentration of the Broth is just as low.
Does it then worth the same price as the other moisturizers in the line that contain the Broth in a much higher concentration?!

Otherwise, this lotion is basically formulated on the same base emollients and emulsifiers as the previous version. Although I believe that the new version contains lower percentage of emollient oils than the previous one. Hence the much lighter feel on application.
It contains excellent actives and cell-communicating ingredients. It seems that this product has much more actives than the Soft Lotion. Maybe to compensate for the lower concentration of the Broth?
It has oil absorbing powders in higher concentrations that give a matte finish to the product.

What I find lacking in this formula is the choice of the emollients. It is based basically on Squalane and two synthetic esters. While Squalane is an excellent moisturizer, it is comedogenic. Not the greatest choice for acne-prone skin! The two other synthetic esters are very fine in this respect but they leave a way too shiny and tacky feel on the skin.

While the feel is very light and perceptively moisturizing, I believe that the choice of other emollients would have resulted in a more elegant product.
I think this product can be a nice choice in humid, warm climate for those who need a matter finish that lasts at least for some hours. (But there are plenty of moisturizers you can choose from that deliver the same benefits and cost the tenth of the price!)

Foundations -The Body Shop - All-In-One Face Base

I really like this powder. I apply it dry with a makeup sponge and it provides good coverage quickly. I have normal/dry skin and it doesn't leave my skin dry or flaky. my only complaint is that after a while it can settle in my pores and lines but it's not too noticeable. also, they have a pretty good range of shades.

Cleansers -Marcelle - Ultra Gentle Cleansing Gel (non-foaming)

on 10/19/2017 1:07:00 AM

foto

I decided this was worth a try because it is cheaper than my previous favourite non-foaming cleanser (Cerave Hydrating), and I'm really glad I did. In spite of being labelled a gel, this is a lotion textured cleanser, but one that rinses clean. I've never really used a cleanser that removed makeup so well and rinsed so cleanly without stripping my skin. In the evening I use it by itself if Ive used only a little makeup or none at all, and I use it after makeup remover if I've worn a full face. It is also my morning cleanser. Really impressive stuff. It's made me try more of Marcelle's skin care line.

Scrubs -Freeman - Charcoal and Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask

on 10/19/2017 12:37:00 AM

foto

This is an amazing mask/scrub to use 1-3 times a week. If you have very sensitive skin I would avoid this scrub as the sugar crystals are very coarse and might lead to excessive redness and irritation.

I've been using the mask for about two weeks now and my skin has gotten noticeably smoother and stubborn blackheads on my chin have gone away.

When I use this scrub I usually do leave it on as a "gel mask" for five minutes while I shave/shower and then scrub it off before washing my hair. The sugar and charcoal do not stick to the floor or sides of my shower which is a big plus.

After using the scrub I apply a witch hazel toner prior to using either aveeno daily cream moisturizer with spf during the day, or at night use Clinique' moisture surge and Josie Maran's argan oil under my eyes.

I really love this mask/scrub and you get a lot of product for your money. I paid under $4 at Walmart.
