Bath Treatments -LUSH -Twilight Bath Bomb

on 4/21/2017 8:54:00 AM

I'm SO GLAD I got this as a birthday present. This is one of those bath bombs I'd never buy for myself. I like lavender but am not the hugest fan and I've gotta admit the name kind of turned me off... Twilight just reminds me of the Twilight saga of books and movies, which I never could get into.

After a stressful day at work yesterday I decided it was time to use this thing. To me, taking a bath is kind of a pamper-yourself thing and I don't do it often. I'm also kind of frugal and usually can't justify spending extra money (even if it's only $6-$8) to bathe, which is usually free (if you don't count the price of the water you use and the shampoo, conditioner, bubble bath, etc. that you already have.)

Anyways, I put this in and was immediately impressed. It starts off with pink and blue swirls and turns into a greyish lavender color which I LOVE. There's silvery microglitter in this one which is almost imperceptible unless you're looking closely. The lavender chamomile fragrance is heavenly... perfect to create a relaxing mood.

When I got out of the tub my skin felt smooth and moisturized. My boyfriend said there was silver glitter all over my body. The glitter is so fine and not chunky at all, more of a shimmer effect. Either way, I can get down with that. Using this thing straight up made me want to go work at the Lush factory in Canada. They evidently have a glitter room where you go home from work every day covered in glitter... sign me up! Haha.

P.S. Just so I can be sure to get some dislikes on this review... the mere mention of the word BUTTERY.

Tinted Moisturizer -LUSH -Colour Supplement

on 4/20/2017 10:29:00 AM

I've rebought this product several times. When I first got it I got dark yellow which was a perfect match for my Asian skin. The way I use it is I take a pump of moisturizer then a dab of this and swirl it together with a finger tip then spread it all over my face. I have very good skin and just the occasional spot so this works as a homemade Bb cream or tinted moisturizer for me when used this way. I rarely need any thicker coverage. Recently I've discovered my colouring is lighter so today I bought light yellow instead and I'll give it a whirl.

Cleansers -LUSH -Dark Angels

This is a great product for what it is - a facial treatment/scrub for 2-3 times a week - and what it costs - 10 euros for the big jar that will last you for about 6 months at least, since it's in dry form and won't spoil so quickly.

What it is not: a daily - or twice daily - face wash.

I have combination skin with seborrheic dermatitis on my oily T-zone with big pores and hormonal acne on the cheeks. This takes care of it all. I used it every second day for about a month and it cleared up most of those white acne-y bumps that don't produce a white head that could be squeezed, but just stay in your skin until pierced and removed by a professional? I don't know what they're called, but this cleared them up. Now I just use it every second day during my PMS breakouts or as a mask after shower if my face is feeling exceptionally greasy and clogged up.

This is great for clogged pores, whiteheads, and drastically improving the overall skin texture, getting rid of various bumps etc. It also improves that red, gaping-pores look my T-zone gets when I'm breaking out and my skin's oil production is through the roof. It doesn't irritate my dermatitis and both degreases and conditions my skin; my dry cheeks aren't any worse off with this than the oily parts of my face.

Now, yes, this makes a mess in the sink, but it's a good product, so as long as you wipe your sink down while the grey splash marks are still wet, it'll be fine. Yes, it does leave a black residue on your skin; that's the coal sticking to grease/dirt in your pores. I've solved this problem by using the scrub in the evening, following with an acid toner, moisturising serum, and the rest of my skincare, and washing my face with a light milky cleanser in the morning. I'm convinced the residue actually keeps on working on drawing filth from your pores if you don't try to get it off your face immediately after use. And yes, if you have dry skin, this isn't for you; and if you have big red inflamed painful acne, this is probably also too rough for you. I'm not so sure it's not for sensitive skins; my skin is pretty sensitive and I'm fine using this, but still: it's an intense scrub. Be gentle with it, don't rub your face too hard, don't use it every day, and make sure you follow with appropriate moisturising treatments; the scrub doesn't dry out your face, but it is an aggressive de-greasing treatment, so your skin needs some calming down. And NO, this isn't for taking off your eye makeup, are you serious?

All in all: damn good product. One of Lush's finest. If you have lots of cash to spend on skincare, then don't bother with this; it's not exceptional, you can probably find something with better effect and less downsides that's more expensive, but for this price point, it's a total steal. I'm almost through my first jar and I'm definitely buying a fresh one. I can't imagine my skincare without this on hand for breakout control.

Moisturizers -LUSH -Celestial

I have been looking for a moisturizer that will help my extremely dry skin as I am 25 and I have noticed wrinkles forming and I've been told its due to not moisturizing properly over the years combined with extremely dry skin. I haven't had any luck with synthetics and I am making the switch to more ethically sourced natural products. I also struggle with deep closed comedones which can stay dormant for months similar to cystic acne. My skin is mildly sensitive as well.

I tried a sample of this and noticed it looked really good under makeup and I wasn't inclined to use a primer and so far haven't needed one (huge bonus for me eliminating a step in my routine).
After enjoying the level of moisturization, smell, smooth consistency and lack of any breakouts I decided to purchase it and boy am I glad I did.
*full disclosure** I've also been using Lush's ultrabland to remove my makeup and I've heard people talk about their skin clearing up after using this as well and this is another holy grail for me.**

Anyway I had this really stubborn closed comedone on my cheek, which is the hardest place to extract from I find. I think they flourish with dry skin because it cant break out the top of the tough dry layers.
I've been using this steadily for the past 2-3 weeks and it actually surfaced on its own yesterday! I was shocked to see that because I've had this since like Christmas (despite many futile attempts to remove it) and thought I was just going to have to live with it. VERY HAPPY!

In regards to the packaging, yeah it sucks but I guess that's the sacrifice you make when using ethical products. I now use the little sample jar I got and transfer some over with a clean spoon and that way not all the product gets contaminated.

Anyway overall I have noticed a wonderful improvement in my skins elasticity and quality.

*******I will use this for stubborn dried closed comedones but I did notice it congest my pores with daily use. It is not good for daily use.**********

Lip Treatments -LUSH -Bubblegum Lip Scrub

This is the first time I've ever given a 1/5 rating to a product that wasn't painfully allergic/a scam, just because I can usually see how something that didn't work for me might work for other skin tones or types.

This lip scrub was completely useless to me. Sure it smells and tastes wonderful, but it did not do what it is supposed to - remove dead skin and leave my lips smooth. It was even more ineffectual at removing flakes than using a soft bristle toothbrush. Quite often, it felt like it was contributing to the flakes (and I only used it once a week, if that) because the outer parts of my lips would flake, and then the day after using this my entire lips would be flakey.

I know how to take care of my lips. I make sure to exfoliate them regularly (but not too often to avoid excessive damage) and apply certain lip balms that provide long term moisture (balms often include drying ingredients that provide short term moisture but worsen your lips over time) and drink plenty of water. This lip scrub was just a total fail. I have full lips, so they're more prone to cracking and any damage is prominent.

The scrub does dry out easily in the tub so make sure to store it upside down from time to time, which lets the moisture (bubblegum flavouring? oil?) renew the dry bits because it sunk to the bottom.

I liked that it was edible and in a small jar. I disliked the Elf lip scrub because it wasn't edible (having to be really careful with washing it all off was annoying) and the balm stick packaging was awful because it crumbled everywhere and ran out quickly but at least the Elf actually worked, which is the entire point of the product.

1/5 because it doesn't do the one job it's supposed to, and I'm quite sure it actually flaked my lips worse. I doubt it was an allergic reaction because I felt no pain at all.

Gels/Soaps -LUSH -Lord of Misrule

This shower cream is one of my favorite lush products ever. The green color is eye-catching and pretty. The scent is heavenly and smelling it makes me drool. The patchouli and vanilla makes it creamy, while the black pepper gives it a good kick. To top it off, it stays on for hours after use, so I can still smell it long after I shower.
Compared to shower gels, more product needs to be used, as it doesn't lather up as well. However, it is more moisturizing than the shower gels, which makes up for this. I can feel how smooth and moisturized my skin is after a shower, and it's worth the extra product used. It's a bit watery, so be careful when using. Also, it tends to separate in the bottle and needs a really good shaking up to get it mixed. Overall, this product one of the best shower products I've used, and has earned its place as a permanent item in my collection of lush products.

Cleansers -LUSH -Herbalism

This is my favorite cleaner from lush, and it does a really good job of cleansing my face. I have combination skin that's kinda sensitive, and I get pimples quite easily. After I started using this cleaner, I saw a noticeable decrease in the amount of pimples I got. Also, I have a habit of popping any pimples on my face, so I have a number of acne scars, and this cleanser made them fade away faster! The redness in my face decreased and now my complexion is much clearer.
It takes awhile to get used to using though. You take a pea sized amount, add a bit of water, and rub it on your face. The first time I used this I added too much water and it was a little messy, but I got the hang of it in the next try. The cleanser left a thin layer on my face, and it left my face feeling more moisturized and clean. A thing to note is the scent. It's quite strong, and smells of herbs and vinegar and some people might not appreciate it. I really love it though, so I enjoy using this every night. I will definitely repurchase this product when I run out.

Shampoo -LUSH -Godiva Solid 2 in 1

This is the first shampoo bar I ever tried from lush, and it remains my all time favorite shampoo bar until today. It made my hair so soft and smooth, and the conditioning bits actually work. It doesn't dry out my hair like some other lush shampoo bars, and it's something I can use everyday. It also lasts around 4-5 months with daily usage, so it's really good value for money. I'm not someone who is bothered by the scent of the shampoo bars; some people might find the jasmine scent overwhelming, but I felt it was ok, since I really like the scent, and I didn't feel it was overpowering. The only downside to this bar is that the conditioning bits don't melt at the same rate as the rest of the bar, so some small bits remain as you finish using it up, and they don't lather up so its not much good to use them. However, this doesn't really bother me, and this shampoo bar is always a constant in my hair care.

Shampoo -LUSH -Montalbano Shampoo Bar

This shampoo bar was kinda meh. I'm not too concerned about the scent of my shampoo bars, so this was ok. It left my hair squeaky clean. However, this bar was quite drying. It wasn't as drying as waves but still quite drying and I ended up needing more conditioner. It also shrinks much faster than other lush shampoo bars, so I used up this bar quite fast. While my Godiva and Seanik lasted around 4 months with daily usage, this one lasted half that time, and isn't a worthwhile investment.

Toners -LUSH -Eau Roma Water

on 4/19/2017 5:46:00 AM

I LOVE this toner. It's gentle, it's moisturizing. I've seen some reviews that say that this doesn't clean the skin. Well, a toner is not supposed to do that, that's what make up removers and cleansing products are for. This just preps the skin, after cleaning it, for the next steps (serum and moisturizer) and it does such a good job. Your skin might get dry or slightly irritated after the cleansing process, and this toner will calm it down with good ingredients for your skin health. Its composition is sooo simple: mainly lavender and rose water. I also use it as a mist, after finishing my makeup or during the day. It hydrates my skin and leaves it with a nice, natural glow. It has a strong smell (like most Lush products), so stay away from it if this tends to bother you. I will keep buying it.

Toners -LUSH -Breath of Fresh Air

on 4/19/2017 5:37:00 AM

It's a good toner but it's not working for me. I bought it because I used other Lush toners and loved them, and I thought this was a nice smell for the summer because it's really fresh, it reminded me to the sea, but truth is it doesn't do so much for my skin. If you look at the ingredients list, it's all natural and beneficial (except the only synthetic ingredient which is a preservative): Water (Aqua), Sea Water, Organic Aloe Vera Gel (Aloe barbadensis), Fragrance, Carrageenan Extract (Chondrus crispus), Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena), Patchouli Oil (Pogostemon cablin), Rosemary Oil (Rosmarinus officinalis), Seaweed Absolute (Fucus vesiculosus), *Limonene, *Linalool, Methylparaben.
I don't know what it is about this formula but I feel there's something that doesn't do so well in my skin, it dries it out, specially if you compare it to Eau Roma Water (also by Lush), one of my absolute favorite toners ever. If you have sensitive skin I would advice you to try that one first. I'm not leaving a 3-star review because I do think it's a quality product and has a good composition, it's just not working out for me. I'm still finishing the bottle though.

Fragrances -LUSH -Kerbside Violet

I brought a small size of this and while it's not my everyday scent its lovely and feminine and floral but not in a old grandma way maybe a more hipster interpatration of floral violet.

Gels/Soaps -LUSH -Dream Wash

I have used a whole tub of this and while this is something I always keep shower side I don't know if it's something I would reach for every day. I know a lot of people complain about no lather and not feeling clean, I think its important to understand this is a wash for people with dry sensitive skin. You don't need excessive lather if thats the case. I have pretty dry skin, so I like this followed up with Rose Aragon body conditioner. I don't use a bath towel or cloth or loofah I just used my bare hands and scoop it into my hand and rub into into my skin away from the water. so this is best used in the bath and just stand up and lather. I am left feeling clean and fine.
