Highlighters -NARS -Highlighting Powder - Maldives

on 4/9/2018 7:41:00 PM

NARS has recently introduced several new colors in a Highlighting Powder formula. The colors are all very beautiful- I picked up Maldives which is a bronzish rose gold color. I love bronze and I love rose gold so this color suits me well. The powder is very fine milled and is very easy to build the color without a lot of powder. This lasts all day without fading and I love that this formula has very little, if any, fall out. My more detailed review video can be seen here:

Liquid -NARS -Sheer Glow Foundation

Reviewing this in Light 2 & Light 3 shade for my NC10/15 skin. Gobi is perfect for my neutral-leaning NC 10/15 because the yellowness helps get rid of the redness on my face.

This is a satin-finish medium coverage foundation, so it is not for women who are looking for very sheer or "glowy" type of coverage (do not be deceived by the product name, read the ingredients!). What Nars sheer glow foundation does offer is good coverage for those of us who need it without having to cake on the product-- this product when applied correctly over well-absorbed moisturizer, can look like a hydrated, well-rested skin.

I have combination dehydrated skin with oily t-zones and scaly and flaky skin especially around my cheek, forehead and nose area. I also have sensitive skin and suffer from a mild controlled case of eczema and rosacea and have very deep scars and stretched large pores from my years of uv-related intense adult acne in my 20s. My skin, while it no longer breaks out (save for one or two here depending on my monthly hormones), is left with terrible scarring and red pigments. It's difficult to work with and finding coverage that can color correct the red pigment in my skin that applies very thin so that I don't look like I'm wearing a mask while at the same time doesn't accentuate my pores and scars.

This foundation is not perfect and my skin certainly does not look "perfect" but it's the best out of what I've tried so far. It looks natural (like my skin but better) but also has enough coverage (medium) to cover the redness on my skin.I still have to apply my Laura Mercier SC concealer on my nose and areas where I have terrible rosacea (without concealer, the redness will peek through around hour 4), but the combination of two products on my skin is a DREAM. I opted not to double layer and just used concealer to spot treat areas on my skin and then set it with powder because I still wanted my made up face to look natural and not yell, "I'M WEARING A MASK!!!" and this foundation lasted 8+ hours on my face without budging. It did seem to fade a little towards the end of the evening, but not in the ugly crackly way, but in a "glow-y" type of way that was still very pretty.

Friends commented on my skin looking hydrated and well-rested and said that it's the best they've seen my skin look with makeup on because foundation usually ends up looking very cake-y on me. This may not be for everyone, but I've found my holy grail. A little less than a pump is enough for my entire face, so I imagine this will last me a while. Sucks that it doesn't come with a pump despite its price point, but I am in love with the formula, so i don't have a problem buying a pump one time since I'll be repurchasing this foundation once I'm done.

Highlighters -NARS -Light Sculpting Highlighting Powder

After watching Mariah Leonard's "Wet Look/Glossy Highlighters" Youtube video and hearing how she described this highlighter, I really wanted to try it out for myself. So I purchased it as soon as I could and tried it out for a week. The colour I purchased is "Fort de France", a pale gold that is only slightly rosy. It is darker and more golden than Becca's SSP Pressed in "Moonstone", but is lighter and a lot less rosy compared to Becca's SSP Pressed in "Opal". It is definitely lighter and less golden compared to Becca's SSP Pressed in "Prosecco Pop". For your reference, I don't wear foundation so I used this on bare moisturized skin, and my skin tone is around NC20 in depth.

The texture of this highlighter is nice and smooth to the touch, but it feels slightly firmer and not as creamy compared to the Becca highlighters that I have. It is only slightly less shimmery and is definitely more sheen-like (glossy and reflective). If I look up close I do notice the very fine shimmer, but not from half a meter away (same with the Becca highlighters). I've tried applying this with two different highlighting brushes: a wispy fan brush (the old Laura Mercier Fan Brush) and a denser, fluffier dome brush (Sephora Collection PRO Highlight Brush #98). It's easy to blend out with either brush. I can achieve a natural highlight or a very glossy/wet highlight with both brushes (with minimal/close to no emphasizing of texture) but if built up too much, "Fort de France" is definitely noticeable on my skin due to its golden hue. That isn't a bad thing, but people can tell that your glow is from a golden highlighter, not from "within". It lasts 7+ hours on my combination skin. If you care about cost/gram: this highlighter costs $3.60 CAD/gram, while Becca SSPPs cost $6.57 CAD/gram.

Note: This highlighter can look patchy and be hard to blend out if I don't wait for my skincare to fully absorb (I realized this one morning while applying it half-asleep). Slightly tacky skin is a no-go (but again, duh, this is a powder). I don't find that I have the same problem with Becca's SSP Pressed in "Moonstone" though, but maybe it is because "Moonstone" is only a bit lighter than my skin so I don't notice the patchiness (if there is any).

The packaging is made of NARS's iconic black, soft-touch rubberized material. The compact is slim but is sturdy with a very nice mirror on the inside. It is easier to open than Becca's SSP compacts.

Overall this is a good, solid highlighter. If you are into the glowy, golden goddess look then you'll probably like this. Do you need to run out and purchase it ASAP? No, definitely not. I don't think that I will purchase this again.

EDIT:

So after playing around with this highlighter for a few more days as well as examining it closely from different angles, I'm starting to love it more and more. I just want to reiterate that this is so glowy and beautiful! "Fort de France" might've knocked Becca's SSP Pressed in "Moonstone" out of its Holy Grail spot in my makeup routine. I'm going to change my stance on this highlighter from "will not repurchase" to "repurchase - especially when there's a sale". I still don't think that you need to run out and buy this ASAP, but if you are really debating whether or not to get this, you should go to a store and swatch it in person. A small warning though, it looks mediocre swatched with fingers, so if you have the chance to try it on your face I highly suggest you do so.

Bronzers -NARS -Casino

This is a fantastic bronzer but it breaks me out with cystic acne. I have tried using it and stopping and every time I go back to it I break out. This is a tragedy as it's really good otherwise.

Lipstick -NARS -Dolce Vita

I got a sample of this from Sephora, excited to finally try out the famed Dolce Vita lipstick. However, it's basically invisible on my pigmented lips -- it looks exactly like I'm wearing chapstick. Not a gloss, because it doesn't have a glossy finish -- just a slightly shiny finish. The formula is lovely though, non-drying and seems to last a couple of hours, so I would definitely get another NARS lipstick, but in a different shade. 4 stars for formula and packaging, 1.5 stars for color.

Liquid -NARS -Sheer Glow Foundation

The color "Punjab" is the most perfect foundation match for my skin that I have ever found!! It's not sheer at all, for me this is full coverage! You only need the smallest amount to cover the entire face. I found that it cakes up really easily through out the day even though it blends so beautifully into the skin in the beginning. Which is why I deducted one lippie. What i like to do now is mix a drop of any beauty oil with the tiniest amount of foundation and I can achieve a nice sheer coverage which is what I prefer. Its a pain to get off the skin so I reserve this foundation for special occasions. I would love to know shade dupes of "Punjab" of a good drugstore foundation if anyone knows.

Concealers -NARS -Radiant Creamy Concealer

I got so happy when I swatched it at sephora! It actually seemed to be a light enough shade for me, no yellow ondertone more neutral /pink, I bought it in shade:chantilly. I rarely find shades that matches me.

In swedish kronor it is 350:- maybe about 35 dollars, expensive, but it is a more luxury brand.

Personally I love the packeging, I think its luxury enough for the price, but the black top easely gets dirty, and I can't be bothered to keep it neat and clean. It feels quite heavy and the glass component looks pretty, it has pracitical applicator with a doe foot.

It creeses less than other concealers I have tried, but its not perfect, the bes t yet for me :) right now om setting it with nars translucent powder in crystal with an eco tools brush. I blend it out with a damp beaty blender, i prefer the little small green one. I have to play around with different methods and see what works better/worse. Right now Im happy with it, a little does go a long way, and also great coverage in my opinion comparing to other concealers I have tried.

My skin is wery drie so even the eye area can get really flake and irritadet, I even covered up a wound with this and it worked fine. DOsent irritate my eyes. I cant use it as an eye primer, I havent find one concealer that wokred for me like that so nothing strange for me, I use eye primer instead, I got hooded eyes.. I Do have wrinkles under my eye, I rccomend using pandas dream cool eye stick underneath. Its just an all trough good experience with this product!

Stick -NARS -velvet matte foundation stick

This is good for a light to medium coverage, The colour is too dark for me at the moment but it’s very underrated product I think. So quick stripe it on buff it with a buff brush not a beauty sponge.

Foundations -NARS -Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation

I love this foundation. This is in my top 3 foundation brands. Its full coverage and goes on dewy. I was more prone to wear matte foundations until I discovered NARS. This foundation just makes my skin look super healthy and hydrated though I have only recently adopted a skin care routine. But, when I wear this makeup, I get so many compliments on my skin. The best part is the color range though. I am in the shade New Caledonia and its a deep dark with "olive" undertone (really?). It fit my complexion perfectly and blends in with my chest which says a lot since my chest area is lighter than my face but its like this foundation adjust to the different areas making for a smooth transition. I don't have to work as hard to match this foundation. Because I can get super oily, I do find myself blotting throughout the day though and it is NOT transfer proof. Its a dewy finish so I knew that i'd be blotting away. But the texture, color range, and overall ambiance of this foundation makes it worth it.

Stick -NARS -velvet matte foundation stick

I love this foundation. Deauville is a perfect match to my NC20-25 skin. It does not oxidize. It does not feel tacky. It spreads very easily using a dense buffing brush, and it stays put. It does not go super oily on me, and does not need powder to set. My oily skin is usually a challenge, and eats foundation for breakfast, but this does last most of the work day for me.

Blush -NARS -NARSissist Unfiltered II

foto

I can’t get over how pretty all around this palette is! The palette itself is the mirrored narsissist style but with a pink background and looks sweet sitting out on my vanity. All of the blush shades are perfect on my fair/light neutral/warm skin tone, the only exception being the shade hot sand as it disappears on my skin.
Nars recommends in the little instruction booklet they include to use more than one color a time to add dimension and to use them around the eyes as well - my plans for the hot sand shade - the formula works equally well as an eyeshadow as it does as a blush. As the formula is sheer and buildable, this is a great palette for anyone who is scared of blush because one would have to be extremely heavy handed to put on too much.

Lipstick -NARS -Orgasm

I got a sample size of it in my Sephora box. I can safely say that this is very sheer barely there color that doesn't even show on my lips. There is nothing whatsoever unique or remarkable about this color and its not worth the price. I actually have several Nars lipsticks and those are full coverage richly pigmented. Organism seem to have catchy name but one of the worst lipsticks in their line.

Eyes -NARS -Eye Paint

foto

I got this in “porto venere” which is a semi-sheer shade of pink. I wanted to try it as a cream eyeshadow but couldn’t get it to build up enough to work for this, so I used it as an eyeshadow base. It made my eyeshadow last all day with just a minimal bit of creasing. It worked very well with the Nars wanted palette, matching the pink tones. I need to experiment with it more to decide if it would be something I would rebuy.

Eye Primer -NARS -Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

You know, I didn't find this to be very effective. I even used it with Nars shadow (the Narsissist shades). It felt like it wouldn't sink into my skin, or dry quickly enough. Maybe it was supposed to be that way? In any event, I thought something was wrong, so I never used it - or the shadows - again.
