Love this on my fine wavy hair. The smell is amazing and it leaves my hair feeling good.

I bought a small, $3 sample sized jar from Target to try this out. So far I've been loving it. Smell is lightly citrus/orange to me, but I barely use less than a dime sized amount, I scoop out more like a pea-sized amount with the back of my fingernail, so the smell doesn't linger that long. I warm it up in the palm of my hands first before finger combing it through my hair, starting at the ends first. Overall, I'm happy with the result of smoother ends and adding some shine, which is exactly what I bought this for.

i was really surprised to see the bad reviews for this. i was on the hunt for a leave-in conditioner that has NO protein, which is very hard to find. my hair is dry, wavy, thick, and very coarse. every leave-in I've tried has made my hair more dry and crunchy and the common thread seemed to be protein in the ingredients list.
this one makes my hair super soft. the scent is kind of oat-y or wheat-y but it is a non-factor for me, inoffensive.
as for price, it's a little spendy for the drugstore but i think it's worth it. i bought the travel size for under $4 just to try it. with as little as i use, it will last forever. i think the full size is $13 or $14 at cvs.
my one word of caution is to only use a tiny bit. for my mid length lions mane i use a dime sized amount - any more than that makes my hair flat. it would probably be too much for those with fine hair, but if you have hair like mine it's definitely a game changer.

NOTE: I originally left this review for the almond leave-in, oops. It's this one - the original formula.

Shampoo -Carol's Daughter -Sacred Tiare Anti-Breakage and Anti-Frizz Sulfate-Free Shampoo - 12 oz

**ORIGINAL REVIEW:**

Not sure what I think about this shampoo yet. My hair felt extremely dry and straw-like upon rinsing. I'll update my review after a few more uses to give it a fair chance, especially since it has so many good reviews.

I bought it because it is "sulfate-free". I thought it would be gentle on colored hair. Perhaps I assumed so wrongly. The first few ingredients sound similar to SLS. I presume they are just lesser-known surfactants that you would expect to be less damaging compared to the infamous SLS, but I'm not convinced. Admittedly, I'll need to do more research on the ingredients before judging. All I know is that my hair felt extremely parched and stripped upon rinsing.

The smell seems very luxe. It has a heavy, perfume-like fragrance. I can't pinpoint exactly what it smells like. It is an intense, sensual smell, but not a particularly pleasant one in my opinion. I don't really care for it. Once rinsed, however, the smell didn't really linger.

**UPDATED REVIEW:**

Well, I've been using this shampoo for three weeks and have decided to downgrade my review from two stars to one star.

I can't get past the extremely dry feeling it has upon rinsing. It makes my normally smooth hair feel mangled and dry in the shower, like a dry, clumpy bird nest. I smother it in conditioner afterwards to little avail.

My flyaways and frizzies have worsened over the last few weeks as well.

I had mentioned in my original review that the reviews here seem favorable overall, so I thought maybe it was just me. Since then, however, I've come across many reviews on the Carol's Daughter website that seem to line up more with my not-so-impressive experience. At least I'm not alone!

I have also decided I don't like the scent. There's something in it that smells faintly, yet distinctly, like an ashtray to me. It's very odd.

I really tried giving it a chance. I hate to say it, but this is my least-favorite shampoo of all time. (And I've washed my hair with Dawn dish soap before!)

I haven't tried any other Carol's Daughter products, so maybe this one is just a dud. Some people like it, so I guess to each their own. On to the next...

I am white and have very baby fine hair that gets weighed down easily. This has been the perfect balance of moisturizing, yet not so heavy my hair looks greasy. I've even used it on my 4 yo daughters baby fine hair to enhance her curls and it works beautifully. I honestly didn't know this was even considered an ethnic product because I grabbed my first bottle at TJ Maxx. I don't think I would have tried it if I had known it was for ethnic hair simply because I assumed it would be too moisturizing and heavy for my hair, but I'm really glad I tried it because it works amazingly well for me and smells delicious.

I'm white with very fine, dry, wavy hair that I keep shoulder length. My hair NEEDS oil but gets oversaturated very easily by creamy and gel-like anti-frizz products. Prior to this I was using Biosilk Silk Therapy and thought that was the best I was going to get. Putting oil in a spray bottle = genius if you ask me.

I find that I have to go very light with this stuff to get the right results. When my hair is wet and has been treated with heat protectant, I hit the ends with one spray of Black Vanilla, scrunch it together with my fingers for a minute or so, and then blow dry. This makes my hair really silky, bouncy, and healthy looking WITHOUT any limpness or greasiness. I don't care for fragrance in products, but luckily this one fades in a matter of hours. I'm very happy and will definitely be checking out more black haircare products in the future.

My hair is completely transformed into softer, lighter, and shiny locks. I love this so much, it's lightweight yet moisturizing. I've been struggling to manage my hair forever and this seems to be the solution. I love the scent so much and it really lasts without being overwhelming or greasy. I would recommend to anyone even with fine hair. I would definitely repurchase, wishing I can find it in a bigger size though. And I love the pump, makes it so easy to use in the shower.

This is missing something... it doesn't moisturize my hair at all, actually it feels dryer when I use this and completely unmanageable. I don't mind the smell although its strong so of you don't like it its going to be too much. This is the second Carols Daughter product I've tried, the other was the black vanilla conditioner, and I don't recommend either. Both left my hair in worse shape than before.

I receive compliments on the smell. I dont like the packaging. The label wears off if oil gets on the bottle. I couldn't tell which product it was on my shelf. The product coats the hair and the shine last till the end of the day.

Shampoo -Carol's Daughter -Sacred Tiare Anti-Breakage and Anti-Frizz Sulfate-Free Shampoo - 12 oz

I bought this shampoo after an online friend of mine told me she swears by it. I had told her I enjoy the smell of Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla shampoo but that it doesn't do much to tame the copious amounts of frizz on my head. So, I went to Ulta and bought Carol's Daughter Sacred Tiare Shampoo and Conditioner. It's not too expensive; I bought the shampoo for 11 dollars. That's more expensive than a drugstore brand, but it's still not "breaking the bank".

When I got home, I opened the shampoo bottle and smelled the product. I was disappointed because it's not a strong, delicious scent like the Black Vanilla Shampoo. The Sacred Tiare shampoo doesn't smell bad at all. The scent of the Black Vanilla shampoo is difficult to beat, for sure. I think the Sacred Tiare shampoo smells more like a standard drugstore shampoo, like one from Garnier or some other drugstore brand.

I first used the Sacred Tiare shampoo later that night. I had gone three or four days without washing my hair, so at that point, my hair was fairly oily and very frizzy. The Sacred Tiare shampoo felt awesome in the shower! It didn't lather too much but still made me feel like my hair was getting clean. The shampoo didn't dry out my hair too much, though. I followed the shampooing with the Sacred Tiare conditioner.

After the shower, I debated whether I should use a leave-in conditioner. I decided I'd see what the results of the shampoo and conditioner are without the leave-in conditioner or other product. When my hair was done air-drying, I noticed that my hair was mostly smooth. It was also more shiny and healthy looking than when I used Garnier Fructis's hair care products. I still have some frizz, but I honestly don't think any shampoo and conditioner will tame all of my frizzies by themselves. I still use Sacred Tiare shampoo and conditioner, and I'll soon try the Sacred Tiare leave-in conditioner, as well.

I recommend this product for people with frizzy hair who don't mind spending a little bit more money on a quality shampoo. Do not, however, expect this shampoo to remove all of your frizz. You'll probably have to incorporate another hair care product into your routine to do that.

Horrid product. Has a nasty, cheap, cloying synthetic vanilla scent.Does not replenish moisture in hair, for me, it actually made my hair drier. Does not add shine or manageability either. Total waste of money.

Hair -Carol's Daughter -OVERALL Product Line Review

on 4/19/2017 11:18:00 AM

I have tried to love Carol's Daughter products repeatedly over the years, and have failed miserably each and every time. For a company whose whole existence is based on natural hair, not one CD product has shown any positive effect or difference on my hair, ever. After purchasing a couple of products from one of their newer lines, and yet again experiencing dry, poufy feeling hair, I have promised myself to *never* waste my money on another CD product!

I bought two travel sizes and can say I will only be using this as hair perfume.
Moisturizing it is not. My hair felt drier than before. Ive tried this on wash and go days and had to rewash my hair.
On days I'm blowing out my hair, I will spray this before putting my hair in a doobie.
My daughter who has a curl pattern similar to mine (think 3b/c) but has softer thinner hair (very typical biracial) cannot use this for anything other than moistening hair to slick back into ponytails. For her wash and go, I was scared this would cause breakage.

It makes my hair smell good. But for the price, will never purchase the full size.
