Cleansers -Murad -Resurgence Renewing Cleansing Cream

on 9/21/2018 11:09:00 AM

I've been interested in switching some of my skincare over to Murad and so got a sample of this cleanser from the lovely skin care SA at my local Sephora. She gave me quite a generous sample but in all honesty, this stuff smells so vile I can't even use it. Cleansing my face is a process I generally enjoy but I don't even want to use this stuff because of the smell. At first, I thought perhaps the sample tube had gone "off" from exposure to light around the clock or people touching and contaminating the tester but then I read the review just before mine and I realize that this is the smell. I can't even bear to use it long enough to find out if it has any noticeable benefits. I'm so glad I got a sample rather than just buying this "blind".

Treatments (Face) -Murad -Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum

I’m trying to understand why this product would be for sensitive skin when it burns my face when I put it on. And I don’t have very sensitive skin, it’s just a little red, probably from the Differin I use. However, despite the fact that it stings a little, it does reduce the redness of my face immediately, so I will continue to use it.

The packaging is quite acceptable, with a small pump that works well, and the product is slightly runny, which makes sense since it’s a serum.

Treatments (Face) -Murad -Revitalixir™ Recovery Serum

on 9/1/2018 11:44:00 AM

Murad Skincare Products have always been extremely hit or miss for me, and the new MURAD Revitalixir Recovery Serum is no exception. The Revitalixir Recovery Serum is housed in a glass pump bottle that makes application very easy, the clear bottle also shows off the spheres and gel which mix when you pump the serum. When I apply this my skin instantly felt hydrated, but then by the next morning my skin actually ended up feeling a little dehyrated and dry. This even caused a small breakout, which i rarely experience. After reading the ingredient list it is clear why this is happening. The MURAD Revitalixir Recovery Serum contains six ingredients which cause irritation: denatured alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate, fragrance, linanlool, citronellol, and Hydroxyethylpiperazine Ethane Sulfonic Acid. I have noticed when using skincare products that contain any of these ingredients my skin can become dry, dehyrated, sensitive, and sometimes breakout. For almost $100 I would expect more state-of-the-art beneficial ingredients and less potential irritants. There are much better serums and moisturizers by Murad. My video review can be seen here:

Masks -Murad -Pore Extractor Pomegranate Mask

This is a great scrub / mask. It’s a thick creamy consistency , after ten mins you add a little water and goes into a creamy scrub which I recommend to scrub gently for a good minute or so. It rinses of easily and my pores appear to look smaller. It doesn’t take away blackheads although nothing does for me except retinol . I have very acne prone sensitive skin and this didn’t aggravate me. A little goes along way with this scrub. I use it 1-2x a week or when my skin is looking and feeling congested in need of a deeper clean. My skin felt soft and smooth after use. This lasted about a day or so . The scent is sort of strong (sweet fruity) for those who are sensitive to that

Treatments (Face) -Murad -Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum

Holy Neptune! This stuff has already begun to lighten some lingering marks from acne as well as brightened up dark circles and I’ve only been using for THREE DAYS. I only use it at night, as I use a Juice Beauty serum during the day that I’m not ready to part with. This hasn’t had any adverse effects on my skin thus far and I hope it never does. I’m working on the trial size which will probably last me a month...but after that, if all goes well, I’ll for sure be purchasing the full size. As of right now it is 200% worth the money!!!

Skincare - Body -Murad -Body Firming Cream

I got the Murad body firming cream for half off so paid about $22 instead of the normal $45 (which is insane). Also, this product is discontinued, so if you find it, it means a beauty store is trying to get rid of it.

PROS:
-Very moisturizing for the body. Feels great. Emollient.

CONS:
-Extremely overpriced, even at 50% off.
-It's a small tube so doesn't last that long.
-It smells like dead oranges
-Does not firm your body. Moisturizes great, sure, but to firm you need to go to the gym or see a plastic surgeon.

Moisturizers -Murad -City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturiser

foto

If you know Murad's Essential C night moisturizer, the City Skin overnight is a far superior formulation that basically makes the Essential C one obsolete.
The Essential C night moisturizer smells like rotten oranges, can leave skin too greasy, and the tube spurts out too much. (though still a fine product)
This City Skin overnight detox (which doesn't detox, but whatever) is super moisturizing. Yet it's also very light at the same time. It does not leave an residue on your skin. It smells regal - almost like neroli - but the scent disappears as soon as you put it on. And the jar dispenser is lovely - you really have control over how much comes out.
Only downside? Maybe it's a little pricy, and maybe it doesn't have as many antioxidants as some other premium night creams. But for Murad this is an excellent choice. Their recent formulations (this, city skin 50 SPF, retinol youth serum/retinol cream) are much better than their old ones.

Treatments (Eye) -Murad -Retinol Youth Renewal Eye Serum

New product from Murad. Pretty gentle retinol serum for the eye area. It will help lessen wrinkles and crow feet if used over time. It did for me. But it doesn't do jack for dark circles or puffiness.
Murad says you can either use this as standalone, or dole out another $85 and combine it with the renewing eye cream (which does help mask dark circles and puffiness).
So it takes $170 on night eye treatments? Kinda a rip off if you ask me.
I know there are premium retinol eye treatments that are significantly less and proven to work well (PTR, Dr Dennis, Kate S), and even help with puffiness, so i'll be looking elsewhere.

I know hydroquinone is a taboo ingredient, but it works! And combining it with vitamin C is even better for brightening, plus it has glycolic acid high on the list as well, for exfoliation. I've used a whole travel size, and I'm 3/4 finished with the full size. I won't repurchase this, though, because it is expensive. I can find products with all those ingredients (maybe not combined) for a much better price! I have some freckles, which I like, but I also have some hyperpigmentation on my upper lip, which I despise. I concentrate my use of this product on my upper lip and chin area, and over the course of a few months, I noticed I didn't need as much concealer on my upper lip! The downside of hydroquinone is that you can get rebound pigmentation when you stop using it. I hope that using alpha arbutin and vitamin C together will combat this once I've finished the Murad.

Treatments (Face) -Murad -Intensive-C Radiance Peel

I think this product is the textbook definition of Mediocre Murad. Sure, it does something. It tingles a bit. It cleans out your skin and tightens it. It makes you look a little brighter for a little bit. It's not a waste, and it's not harmful. But for nearly $60 you would expect better. Murad is definitely not a go to for face masks or peels. I'll finish my bottle - like I said, it does do something, but for the price it's a disappointment.

Treatments (Eye) -Murad -Essential-C Eye Cream SPF 15 PA

foto

It's cute that it has 15 SPF - but first of all, SPF 15 is not enough, and second of all, SPF wears off in a couple hours... so are you going to keep applying this eye cream?
I'd rather use a different eye cream and apply some sunscreen over it.
Anyway, that aside, this is a decent eye cream because it lightens the dark circles temporarily. It's not a logn term fixer, but if you use it everyday your eyes may appear .. brighter. Almost like wearing makeup.
For that alone, I guess it's alright, but I don't think this is the best deal out there.

Moisturizers -Murad -Essential-C Night Moisture

foto

I don't mind the Essential C night moisturizer. It's like a thicker, nastier (like dead orange) smelling version of the day cream (with no SPF). It is heavy, but even with my oily skin it sits pretty chill (though I wouldn't be going out in public with the way it sits - this is a before bedtime situation for sure). Anyway, for the price I feel there's other options out there. Murad has even released city skin detox for $5 more which is like an advanced, better version of this product. So while there's nothing wrong per se with this moisturizer, I'm pretty sure there's better out there for cheaper or same price. Don't go out of your way for this one.

Moisturizers -Murad -Essential-C Day Moisture SPF 30

This is my favorite Murad product. I feel the line, while solid, is overpriced and most of its products can be found in other brands for cheaper. But I'd have a hard time complicating the Essential C SPF 30. First of all, I've used it every day (sometimes 2x a day if I'm out in the sun) and a tube lasts about 3 months. Secondly, it feels so soothing and gentle when you put it on. It could be great for oily skin (mine) or anything else really. It can sit on the face for a few minutes then absorbs in. WHILE this moisturizer is on, the uneven aspect of my skin tone dissipates. So I don't know if this fixes your skin long term, but while it's on it has that effect. Not to mention the moisturization and excellent SPF.

Treatments (Face) -Murad -Advanced Active Radiance Serum

Love that Murad uses air tight sealed containers so there's no risk of contamination. Anyway, I've felt this is a solid if not slightly weak Vitamin C serum. I don't think it can reverse a lifetime of summers like it claims, but it appears to certainly help pigmentation and even has lightened some of my atrophic acne scars. In combo with the moisturizers I can say this has improved my skin texture. Like other very pricy Murad serums, it can last easily up to 3 months so, that helps the price a bit. Since I have oily, dense, masculine skin I'll probably be looking to try out some other, more hardcore vitamin C serums, but overall I'm happy with the moderate, yet significant progress this one offered me.

Treatments (Face) -Murad -Retinol Youth Renewal Serum

This is Murad's best selling product right now and I can see why. It's a gentle, almost moisturizer retinol that eases its way in. Ideal for older women (hence the resurgence line) and for individuals with sensitive, dry, reactive skin. If you usually can't take much retinol, this is an excellent choice.
For everyone else, I think it's a good product, and has helped me a bit, but I'm a young(ish) male with oily skin, so I'll be looking for something more hardcore in the retinol department. Also, it's quite pricy - there are always cheaper alterantives than Murad.
