Gels/Soaps -L'Occitane -Amande Cleansing and Soothing Shower Oil

foto

I love this shower gel- it doesn’t foam a lot but foam soaps typically dry my skin out. It has a subtle and pleasant scent. It is one of the only soaps that clean my skin and makes it baby soft. I use it to shave my legs too. It is a little pricey but truly a unique product so I will continue to repurchase.

I debated giving this five stars but since it doesn't lather on my shower poof very well I decided to give it four. Honestly though since it's mostly natural I'd be shocked if it lathered well in the first place. Anyways...

Smell is not bad. Doesn't smell like almond extract but has a very light perfumy smell that lingers on the skin but doesn't trail with you all day. It has a very runny consistency and does not lather well with a loofah or shower poof. I found the best thing to do was put it directly on my hands and rub on my body, then get my poof wet and scrub away. That seemed to work well. If you've never used a shower oil before, be prepared to feel like you didn't get totally clean. You won't have that squeaky clean feeling but in truth, unless you're filthy, the warm water running on your body cleans you enough. In fact, when I used this the first time my skin was so hydrated when coming out of the shower that I hated it and felt like I didn't get clean at all. But after you towel dry you realize that you are totally clean and it doesn't leave a filmy residue and your skin is not red, itchy, or taught from the warmth of the shower. It takes some getting used to. The skin on my arms and legs is pretty dry and I did feel like I still needed to put lotion and a body oil on to feel fully moisturized. However, I think if you have normal skin then this could be enough for some people. Overall, not bad. It does exactly what it claims to which is more than most brands. You get what you pay for.

Lip Treatments -L'Occitane -Ultra riche 10% Shea butter lip balm

I love this lip balm, despite popular opinion it seems. It works a dream on my dry lips. It has quite a thick consistency - it doesn't feel waxy at all for me, and I have no issues getting it out of the squeeze tube I purchased it in. Perhaps the tube stores the product better than the stick? It comes out easily with just a slightly squeeze of the tube, even in winter that's just passed. I use this every night and in the morning my lips are smooth and hydrated. I find I reach for this more than my Laneige sleep mask. Love this product, will repurchase again once it finishes.

Lotions/ Creams -L'Occitane -Shea Butter Foot Cream

on 9/29/2018 11:43:00 AM

foto

Originally bought at Sephora for $29, I'm almost at the end of a 150 mL/5.2 oz. container that I've been working on over the last year. The packaging is the traditional L'Occitane tube. You have to struggle and push and yank and tug to get the last bit of product out. And when you can tug no more -- don't worry, friends, there is still product in there you can't get out.

I use a foot file/grater thing on dry skin and a Mr. Pumice 1-2x/week in the shower, which keeps my feet 95% nice. If I didn't do either of those things, there is no way application of this foot cream alone would improve any rough dry skin or calluses. No way. After I apply the lotion, I put my feet in socks for a couple of hours. After I take the socks off, my feet feel soft but not overwhelmingly so.

I feel like this product doesn't do anything that a cheaper foot cream won't also do; the lotion isn't particularly thick or emollient either. Unimpressed and most likely won't repurchase.

Skincare - Body -L'Occitane -Amande Supple Skin Oil

Simply put, this product is fantastic but I hate the bottle and it is also VERY expensive.
I think what makes it so good is the mix of oils and probably the alchemy of the molecules bound together...as I have tried every possible oil, including those in this one, with no long-term results (except for a very few but wasn't keen on always putting on 6 types of stuff every single day).
This really works as a wonder moisturizer, my skin suddenly felt softer and much more hydrated. It also looks far better than with my usual regimen (a friend first noticed, when I thought it was just me, how my skin had a great glow, no imperfections and literally no visible pores, without any makeup on).
Highly recommended bar for the bottle, whoever thought about putting an oil in a glass bottle....except for this, it's the perfect product.
The price is also steep, almost 50 EUR, however i've seen it on sale many times and this is how I also bought it, I paid the equivalent of 25 USD from what I can recall.
L'Occitane, if you read this, please change the packaging. The glass looks great but it's too slippery. Perhaps make it frosted (that would be a nice touch) and put some non-slip additions, like a rubber flower petal design or something of the sort. Come on, you can do it!

Gels/Soaps -L'Occitane -Amande Cleansing and Soothing Shower Oil

I'll be very honest; at first, I was disappointed with this product. I'm giving it five stars though because, once I learned how to use it, I was amazed at the results and found that none of my initial "problems" with it were long-term. Here's my (very thorough) take:

I bought this because I wanted something more moisturizing. I started using this in Shanghai in the middle of the summer. Shanghai's summers are INSANELY humid and hot. Switching from soap to oil is not a bad idea in and of itself, but switching from soap to oil in the middle of the summer is a terrible idea. On especially hot days, the fact that I was showering with oil meant that I was smelling like fried food. This was disappointing too because the product truly does have a pleasant smell. It's true; it smells like an almond cookie.

*However,* the fried-food smell went away before too long, and I think it's because I started using the product differently. Here's how I've used it and found a lot of success:

Massage onto skin with your bare hands. (This will mean you'll go through the bottle faster; I think a bottle lasts me about three months.) Then, use a cloth or a bath puff to build up the lather and to exfoliate. This is VERY IMPORTANT because, when you switch from soap, your skin will still be used to the drying effects of the soap and will be producing a lot of oil for a while, to which you will now be adding even more. If you are not careful to exfoliate once you stop using soap, you will probably have a few weeks of breakouts. Just a warning, but this doesn't HAVE to be a problem if you exfoliate. Getting away from soap seems to be better in the long run though, since soap is so stripping, and stripping is aging. Just remember that; it's worth figuring out how to use this and getting through any "adjustment" period.

The lather with this product is really minimal, so if you apply it directly to a bath accessory rather than your body, you aren't necessarily going to get clean; you need to make sure the product gets on your skin. For best effects, apply to your skin as you stand away from the spray in the shower; otherwise, it will rinse off immediately, you will waste a lot of it, and, again, you won't get clean.

After you rubbed it on and scrubbed with a sponge or a bath puff or whatever it is that you use, *then* rinse it off.

People debate about the smell. I have a super-sensitive nose, but, yes, I do smell the almond oil on myself after getting out of the shower (others might not). The fragrance barely lasts though, so if you want to emanate a fragrance, use perfume.

You won't be greasy at ALL, but you will be amazingly moisturized. In fact, on a lot of days, I don't even have to put lotion on my legs after shaving. I'd prefer a product with more of a fragrance too, but nothing I've tried beats the moisturizing effects of this. It's awesome to be so soft without having to use any lotion (saves money and time!).

I will keep using it. However, if, next summer, I find that I'm smelling like fried food again (even after learning how to use it properly), then I'll save this as a winter-only product.

Hope that helps!

Skincare - Face -L'Occitane -Divine Youth Oil

I have combination skin and find that this product is too much for me. The oil makes my skin very oily and sits on top rather than sinks into the skin. It’s probably better for dry and dehydrated skin and hopefully other people have better results

Soft and buttery cream that moisturizes well. It has a mild and calming almond milk scent. Pricy but it's still my favorite hand cream.

Yes, I'd buy again, but only if I win the lottery. I think it's way overpriced, but the scent is refreshing lemon verbena and it rinses off cleanly without drying.

Moisturizers -L'Occitane -Shea Butter Face Comforting Mist

I'm a mist fanatic -- I always have one in my purse and in my bathroom. I have dry skin, and I use mists instead of washing my face in the morning, to add a little moisture and dewiness after applying makeup and throughout the day, and sometimes on top of my moisturizer at night if I need a little extra something. This one comes in a small spray can like Evian or Avene. It has the same wonderful scent of most L'Occitane Shea Butter products, and it comes out in a very fine mist. The shea butter makes it more moisturizing than plain water alone. It's $19, which is more than I usually like to spend on a 1.6 oz. mist, but I like it so much that I'd buy it again, and it is a good purse and travel size. They make these mists in the other lines: Precious, Divine, Peony, etc., and I'm definitely going to try those too.

Cleansers -L'Occitane -Immortelle Precious Cleansing Foam

I am pleasantly surprised by this cleanser. It's very light and takes all my makeup off very quickly, yet does not leave my skin feeling tight or dry and does not burn my eyes. It has a light, pleasant scent from natural essential oils. For years I have been using two steps to cleanse: 1. Remove my makeup with an oil or micellar water and 2. Use a foamier cleanser with my Clarisonic. I don't really feel like I need to take those two steps now unless I just want to do it for the heck of it. The only down side is that it has a special foaming dispenser, and it's too large to travel with, so I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for a travel-size version of this. On the upside, there's a refill pouch available for this, which is more economic.

I adore this shower gel. It leaves my skin so soft! It works into a slight lather; scent is light and pleasant. It works really well for shaving too. I go through it quickly and it’s on the expensive side. But I don’t need heavy duty lotion after so I will keep buying it.

Skincare - Body -L'Occitane -Amande Supple Skin Oil

If there was only one product from L'Occitane that I would recommend to anyone, this is it. And not because it smells wonderful (which it does), nor for the fact that it moisturizes well, but because of the proven ingredients. This formula is 50% sweet almond oil - in itself nothing remarkable about that, but you also have 3 VERY beneficial oils in here: Sea Buckthorn, Rosehip and Carrot seed oil. All 3 of these have excellent skin benefits due to their skin regenerating abilities, in other words when you pick this up and read the packaging: "after one month of use, skin feels more supple and firmer", know that for once there might actually be some truth in it!

After using the Almond Shower Oil I gently dry with a towel before massaging this into my skin and allowing it a couple of minutes to absorb before getting into clothes. Leaves my skin feeling soft and smelling great for hours. My only dislike is the glass bottle, I have to keep reminding myself to not attempt to hold it up and spray but to set it down so that if it slips out of my hands then at least it won't fall far. This is quite perfumed too, so if you do have sensitive skin perhaps worth trying it out first before purchasing a full size bottle.

This is a bit like DHC's cleansing oil (or any other brands') but for the body! It's a light golden, fragrant liquid which emulsifies upon contact with water. Main ingredient in here is antioxidant-rich Grapeseed oil and a few other goodies too. I love the fragrance but it does seem to have been toned down since I last used this some years back. Unlike many of the other L'Occitane shower and hand cleansing formulations, this one does not leave your skin feeling dry. However I sometimes find it a bit too emollient as a shower product and tend to use only in winter when my skin can really use the extra boost of hydration. I follow with the 'Almond Supple Skin oil' to really lock in that moisture. Got this in the limited edition large size so can see it lasting forever.
