Treatments (Face) -RoC -Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Night Cream

foto

Just like the Night serum I used this during the first half of April 2017 but on the other side of my face for a good comparison to see which formulation worked better. Both had their pros and cons: this one combined glycolic acid with retinol whilst the serum had 3 types of paraben and just as many silicones (neither good in my books) yet was lighter and more suited to my skin type. I built up my skins' tolerance level and I suggest anybody who is new to retinol should do the same, by applying every third day, then every 2nd and eventually nightly. I also recommend stopping use of any retinol products, at least once every year to avoid reaching that dreaded 'retinol plateau' that others have mentioned.

This one didn't go on and sink in as lightly and quickly as the serum version. It seemed to take a few minutes to be properly absorbed and definitely more suited to drier skin types. Unfortunately I could not use this beyond day 12 as breakouts had me abandon my comparison experiment and head back to the drawing board. In my case the reaction wasn't due to a sensitivity to retinol but to Dimethicone in the ingredient list (and many other skincare products out there). Chances are if something makes your skin feel instantly smooth and silky then it contains silicones. Retinol itself is one of the best anti-ageing ingredients out there imho, of all the many products I've tried (and I've tried many!) the best results always seem to come from Vitamin C or A (retinol).

P.s I have just updated the ingredients list at top of page which were from the previous formulation in 2011.

The colour drew me to buy this but the application is so awful I will never buy China Glaze again! And here in Canada, it cost $8 so it wasn't cheap either. Booooo.

Palettes -Anastasia Beverly Hills -Subculture

I just recently purchased this palette. Sephora did a dramatic markdown of this and it was a steal so why not? I've seen all the terrible reviews on this but I also saw the good reviews for this palette too. I love this palette and I'm shocked. I know how to work with this one because I did my research. The formula for this palette is super powdery and highly pigmented. A recipe for disaster if you don't know what your doing. You only need to dot your brush in the pod, not dig into it like you would other palettes. The colors blend effortlessly, no patchiness, and there is not a lot of fall-out when applied with a light hand. The colors are vibrant and each compliment eachother. This is my favorite palette right now and i NEVER thought i'd say that.

Treatments (Face) -RoC -Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Serum

I used this during the first half of April 2017 whilst applying the ROC Deep wrinkle night cream on the other side of my face for a good comparison (more about that in a separate review). I built up my skins' tolerance level which is something I suggest anyone new to retinol should do, by applying every 3rd day, then every 2nd and eventually nightly. I also recommend stopping use of all retinol products at least once every year to avoid reaching the dreaded 'retinol plateau' that others have mentioned.

Anyhow back onto the product. I preferred the light texture of this to the night cream and that it didn't sit on my skin but sank in quite easily. Retinol does work! Even in the short amount of time that I used it my pores did look more refined and my skin tone overall fresher and smoother. However, with 3 types of silicones in the formulation that joy would be short-lived. By day 10 I was already breaking out, despite the gaps in between without use. Bottom line is: if your skin does not like silicones go with another brand that doesn't list 'Cyclopentasiloxane' or 'Dimethicone' in its ingredients list. Unfortunately at the time of using these (and many other silicone-containing products) I was never able to make the connection.

Foundations -Dior -Backstage Face & Body Foundation

I love this foundation. On me it’s a very natural matte finish. On drier skins this would be too matte- but in the summer when I am more oily and wearing a sunscreen underneath I love how it looks. Wears well throughout the day too. I have tried most foundations out there and I am very picky about what I like and this ticks the box for a great long lasting summer foundation.

I love this, it tones my hair perfectly but it also dries it out like a b**ch. my hair is seriously over processed at the min though. I use this only once or twice a month now and only for a couple of minutes otherwise it goes silver. I love the smell of this too, its super strong like old perfume’s. I prefer this now to the Fanola no yellow because it tones better as its a bit less pigmented and doesn’t turn silver/grey as soon as I put it on.

Foundations -Revlon -Colorstay Makeup Normal/Dry Skin SPF 20

This stuff made me look like I had a mask on and it was very unnatural looking no matter how carefully applied. The pump broke after just two uses so it went into the trash where it belonged to start with. A big disappointment and total waste of money. There are many much more affordable drug store products out there!!!

Body Scrubs -Frank Body -Coffee Scrub

foto

Good product, has a strong coffee smell, but I don't mind it. I used to get ingrown hairs on my legs after shaving, but ever since using this scrub I've had barely any.
My only complaints are that it does go everywhere in the shower (and sometimes bathroom), but I saw they made a creamy scrub, which shouldnt be as messy, so I might try that next. Also the packaging can get a bit wet and doesn't dry very well. Other than that its a great scrub!

Sunscreen -Unlisted Brand -Brush On Block SPF 30 Mineral Powder Sunscreen

I am the type of person that forgets to put sunscreen on unless I am purposely going without makeup for a day outdoors. I do make an effort to wear sunscreen under my makeup but truthfully that is only when I know I will be exposed to the sun. When I saw this powder sunscreen in a two-pack at Costco I snatched it up and immediately threw one in my purse, problem solved! Now I have sunscreen with me all the time. There is a locking mechanism on the cylinder and the brush has a retractable sleeve to protect and keep it in shape. The brush is not scratchy and works well to deposit and blend product on skin. It is a broad spectrum SPF30 mineral powder that claims to be sweat and water resistant. The only downside to this is that it’s hard to tell how much has been applied. I pretty much do my face in quadrants, shaking the tube between each section to make sure enough product comes out. Would I recommend this sunscreen? Absolutely. It has become my safety net and it hasn’t failed me yet.

Deodorants -Schmidt's Naturals -Lavender + Sage

on 7/17/2018 9:10:00 AM

I picked up this deodorant at TJ Maxx for less than $4. Previously I had been using doves clinical which just didn’t work anymore. I was smelly and the deodorant was ruining my clothes.

I use this in lavender + sage as I find the scent to be quite pleasant. I haven’t had any issues with smelling. The only issues I have is that the product pills a little when you put it on and some product will also get pushed over the side of the stick. Other than that I have no issues! Love that it’s all natural!
