Palettes -TheBalm -Nude Beach Eyeshadow Palette

on 6/24/2018 2:38:00 PM

Purchased last summer, this my favourite of the the ‘Nude’ palette series. Colours are definitely warmer much vibrant than the other two Nude palettes. (this would be The Balms answer to UD -Naked Heat palette). Packaging: the usual “Balm” graphic sturdy cardboard packaging, large mirror runs parallel with palette which contains 12 small pans, included is a dbl ended mini eye brush (which I gave away). That being said the palette is perfect for travel if the pkg size is not an issue. In this palette the colours are all cleverly named with positive affirming qualities that start with ‘B’ after the palettes name ‘Beach’. Kudos to the marketing team lol. This palette contains an equal ratio of shimmer to matte formulas mostly well pigmented buttery shadow formulas. Only one poorly pigmented shade and that is Brilliant, a matte light flesh tone. Brainiac is a gorgeous shimmer shade (bright berry copper) which is probably what attracts ppl to this palette among other colours. Lovey bronze gold shimmer colours as well Buff, Bullit and Breathtaking. Brave is a deep dark chocolate plum-brown matte infused with tiny sparkles of fuscia (which barely can be seen when applied), such a pretty colour seems to go on patchy, but can be worked with. Same goes for Brazen a dark brown matte shade- patchy but workable. As always I recommend primer for some of the matte shades especially, just for extra insurance. Very warm coppery feel to this palette, great for summer looks.
Overall I enjoy this palette the most given I’ve never purchased a palette until this as I prefer to customize my onw palette with shadows by MAC and UD.

Palettes -TheBalm -Nude Dude Eyeshadow Palette

Bought this last summer online with the other x2 Nude palettes in the series via The Balm. This palette is neutral leaning warm. Typical The Balm style packaging consists of sturdy cardboard casing with 1940’s pinup graphics with clever product names. Inside are 12 small shadow pans, an ample sized mirror and a mini dbl end brush which I have no use for. This palette is travel friendly. A 6:6 ratio of shimmer to matte. Some matte shades have minute glitter particles as well. The eyeshadows names in this palette all start with the letter ‘F’ named after positive affirmative attributes-cute. Fearless and Flawless (matte formulas) seem to have poor pigmentation, although I do use them both as base shadows. I do tend to gravitate to the shimmer shadows, my favs are the gold to coppery tones -Fabulous, Faithful, Firm, Fit and Flirty. These are buttery soft and apply nicely on the eyelid. Flirty (Maury plum) doesn’t seem as pigmented as the others mentioned but is lovely as a sheer plum coat. I strongly recommend eye shadow primer with these palettes. Honourable mention Fierce- this is a deep dark green almost black matte colour with tiny particles of gold fleck,( which is barely detected once applied) goes on patchy but is easily corrected and blends beautifully with other shades adds such great depth to eye makeup looks. Overall I do enjoy this palette, great colours and formulations for the most part. For someone who never used set palettes before, I do fall victim in that I tend to use my go to colours and ignore the rest. This is why I prefer to have customized palettes...

Palettes -TheBalm -Nude 'tude Eyeshadow Palette

Bought this and 2 other Nude palettes last summer during an online sale via The Balm. Love The Balm products for their pigmentation and longevity and blendibility. A neutral leaning cool palette, 6:6 ratio of shimmer to matte formulas. Buttery soft and well pigmented. Typical The Balm packaging, sturdy cardboard with kitschy graphics, generous mirror and a mini dbl sided eye brush ( which I’ve nvr used). Great for travel if you like the shadow colours. There are 12 sm shadow pans which I have yet to hit the bottom on any of the 3 palettes I own. Each shadow name starts with an ‘S’ after some nice and some not so nice attributes. My fav shadows are the shimmer shades Sassy, Snobby, Stubborn, Stand-offish, and Selfish. Gorgeous high sheen shadows, make for some awesome eyelid highlight looks. The matte colours can be patchy on application but not terribly as you’ll need to give a lil more work and I would recommend a shadow primer. Serious is the darkest colour in this group (deep charcoal black matte) can be quite patchy but needs lil work, adds great definition to some eye looks. Overall I like this palette, although I should disclose I tend to use the shimmer shades more than the matte colours in this group.

Mascara -TheBalm -Mad Lash

My HG mascara (Elizabeth Mott's It's so big) is no longer being sold in my country, and I've been dreading finding a new mascara. 9 out of 10 mascaras smudge horribly on me, which makes mascaras my least favourite makeup product to buy (read: throw away money at). I found a 2-pack of this mascara for a really good price (at feelunique), and since I like thebalm as a brand a lot I decided to take a chance.

Overall, I'm impressed. Does it smudge on me? A little, but only sometimes. I'm still trying to work out what other products, like concealer, to stay clear of to avoid smudging. The weather is also really hot right now, and sweating does make it more smudge prone. Probably not a perfect mascara for the gym. It's still a lot better than the vast majority of the mascaras I've tried. This mascara is not water resistant in the least, which some might not like, but I don't mind too much. It makes it pretty easy to wash off. I'm thinking about trying thebalm's waterproof mascara (scuba something, I think?) during the warmer months, but I don't know if it's known for being smudge free.

I naturally have very curled lashes, so I don't know how well it holds an "artificial" curl, but the wand seem very suited for lifting the lashes. I like to do the first coat with the "right" side of the wand (the inside, so that it's curved to fit the lashline), and then build volume with the opposite side in the second layer. It gives me really full and long lashes. The really deep black shade adds to the effect. The formula is quite wet, so I feel like it gets better after a little while when it's dried slightly.

The price is on par for thebalm being a mid-end brand. I basically got two mascaras for the price of one this time, but the mascara normally retails for about $22 here in Sweden (compared to $18 on their US website). If it never smudged, so I wouldn't have to check periodically how it's doing, it would get 5/5 lippies. I'm knocking one lippie off for that, but I still like this mascara more than I could've hoped for.

+ Cruelty free
+ Vegan
+ Gives full, dark lashes
+ Not clumpy
+ The wand works well for me
+ Cute packaging, as per usual with thebalm
+ Non-irritating to my relatively sensitive eyes

- Can smudge a little sometimes, especially when it's hot out
- Formula is initially a little bit wet
- Dissolves from very little moisture

Bronzers -TheBalm -Bahama Mama Bronzer, Shadow & Contour Powder

on 5/15/2018 5:35:00 PM

HG bronzer and contour! I can't believe it's taken me THIS LONG to finally get to it! It's more fitting for my C40/C6 (I mix them together via Fix+) skin than Laguna or Casino. This costs more than I usually pay for a contour powder, but it's worth it! It's the few shades that actually look normal on my skin and not straight-up gray. Please don't ever stop making this!!
