Mascara -TheBalm -Mad Lash

on 6/3/2018 7:00:00 AM

My HG mascara (Elizabeth Mott's It's so big) is no longer being sold in my country, and I've been dreading finding a new mascara. 9 out of 10 mascaras smudge horribly on me, which makes mascaras my least favourite makeup product to buy (read: throw away money at). I found a 2-pack of this mascara for a really good price (at feelunique), and since I like thebalm as a brand a lot I decided to take a chance.

Overall, I'm impressed. Does it smudge on me? A little, but only sometimes. I'm still trying to work out what other products, like concealer, to stay clear of to avoid smudging. The weather is also really hot right now, and sweating does make it more smudge prone. Probably not a perfect mascara for the gym. It's still a lot better than the vast majority of the mascaras I've tried. This mascara is not water resistant in the least, which some might not like, but I don't mind too much. It makes it pretty easy to wash off. I'm thinking about trying thebalm's waterproof mascara (scuba something, I think?) during the warmer months, but I don't know if it's known for being smudge free.

I naturally have very curled lashes, so I don't know how well it holds an "artificial" curl, but the wand seem very suited for lifting the lashes. I like to do the first coat with the "right" side of the wand (the inside, so that it's curved to fit the lashline), and then build volume with the opposite side in the second layer. It gives me really full and long lashes. The really deep black shade adds to the effect. The formula is quite wet, so I feel like it gets better after a little while when it's dried slightly.

The price is on par for thebalm being a mid-end brand. I basically got two mascaras for the price of one this time, but the mascara normally retails for about $22 here in Sweden (compared to $18 on their US website). If it never smudged, so I wouldn't have to check periodically how it's doing, it would get 5/5 lippies. I'm knocking one lippie off for that, but I still like this mascara more than I could've hoped for.

+ Cruelty free
+ Vegan
+ Gives full, dark lashes
+ Not clumpy
+ The wand works well for me
+ Cute packaging, as per usual with thebalm
+ Non-irritating to my relatively sensitive eyes

- Can smudge a little sometimes, especially when it's hot out
- Formula is initially a little bit wet
- Dissolves from very little moisture

Bronzers -TheBalm -Bahama Mama Bronzer, Shadow & Contour Powder

on 5/15/2018 5:35:00 PM

HG bronzer and contour! I can't believe it's taken me THIS LONG to finally get to it! It's more fitting for my C40/C6 (I mix them together via Fix+) skin than Laguna or Casino. This costs more than I usually pay for a contour powder, but it's worth it! It's the few shades that actually look normal on my skin and not straight-up gray. Please don't ever stop making this!!

Crème -TheBalm -TimeBalm Foundation

This didn't work for me at all. I have a moderately oily T-zone, the rest of my face is normal. My nose got so oily while wearing this that my glasses started sliding off, and mind you, I set this with powder everywhere.

It also never really sets into the skin - it just sits there, from the moment you apply it until you take it off or (most probably) rub it off by accident, so it's horribly transferable. Moreover, it creases like CRAZY. Literally after 10 minutes of wearing it, I get super bad smile lines.

I really tried to work with it; primers, setting powders, all of that, but with no luck. I don't recommend it at all.

Palettes -TheBalm -Meet Matt(e) Trimony

I love this palette! It has all the basic shades to create from a warm toned to a cool toned eyeshadow look! If you have Chocolate Bar palette you probably don’t need this.
Lin: Ivory
Thomas: sheer baby pink (like yogurt from MAC)
Rossi: taupe - mauve
Lopez: caramel
Kumar: rusty red
Moskowitz: eggplant purple
Reed: deep chocolate brown
Ahmed: Black (not very pigmented)
I want a light wash of color when it comes to the darkest colors in this palette(Kumar, Moskowitz, Ahmed) that’s why I don’t really have blending issues with these. Once, I tried to do a smokey eye makeup look and I realized that Ahmed was a bit hard to blend. So yes this formula is dry but pigmented.
My favorite make up look is:
Lin all over the lid, Evans and Lopez in crease and Kumar on the outer V. Reed and Kumar mixed together in the waterline and Lolita from Kat Von D on lips.
Overall, I love this palette and I would recommend it to everyone. You can create daytime or nighttime eye makeup looks, warm toned or cool toned. This contains all the basic colors you need for any makeup look but if you prefer creamy eyeshadows then you will not enjoy this formula. I personally find that more dry eyeshadows tend to last longer on my oily lids.

Palettes -TheBalm -Balm Jovi Rockstar Face Palette

Such cute packaging! What a shame the shadows are absolutely crap.

The shadows in this palette are very poor quality - powdery, fall out, fade away, blend away to nothing, not pigmented and doesn't show up in my medium brown skin.

I like the blush - pretty peachy coral and lasts much longer/performs much better than the shadows. The highlighter also performs well.

Love love love the two lipsticks:
-the red has a cool undertone and just stunning!
-the nude pink one has been my fav nude for a smoky eye. And, I ended up going and buying the full size lipstick in Mai Bills Be Paid by The Balm, as it was the closest to the lipstick in the palette.

Unfortunately, the fallout from the eyeshadows settle on the lipsticks and then its just yuck and meh.

I can't love this palette because the biggest portion of the palette - the eyeshadows are underwhelming. I would not buy this palette for the cheek or lip items alone - price not justified.

Do not recommend. They did manage to take my money with the kitsch cute packaging. But I am wiser and poorer by that much now.
