Treatments (Face) -RoC -Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Night Cream

foto

Just like the Night serum I used this during the first half of April 2017 but on the other side of my face for a good comparison to see which formulation worked better. Both had their pros and cons: this one combined glycolic acid with retinol whilst the serum had 3 types of paraben and just as many silicones (neither good in my books) yet was lighter and more suited to my skin type. I built up my skins' tolerance level and I suggest anybody who is new to retinol should do the same, by applying every third day, then every 2nd and eventually nightly. I also recommend stopping use of any retinol products, at least once every year to avoid reaching that dreaded 'retinol plateau' that others have mentioned.

This one didn't go on and sink in as lightly and quickly as the serum version. It seemed to take a few minutes to be properly absorbed and definitely more suited to drier skin types. Unfortunately I could not use this beyond day 12 as breakouts had me abandon my comparison experiment and head back to the drawing board. In my case the reaction wasn't due to a sensitivity to retinol but to Dimethicone in the ingredient list (and many other skincare products out there). Chances are if something makes your skin feel instantly smooth and silky then it contains silicones. Retinol itself is one of the best anti-ageing ingredients out there imho, of all the many products I've tried (and I've tried many!) the best results always seem to come from Vitamin C or A (retinol).

P.s I have just updated the ingredients list at top of page which were from the previous formulation in 2011.

I used this during the first half of April 2017 whilst applying the ROC Deep wrinkle night cream on the other side of my face for a good comparison (more about that in a separate review). I built up my skins' tolerance level which is something I suggest anyone new to retinol should do, by applying every 3rd day, then every 2nd and eventually nightly. I also recommend stopping use of all retinol products at least once every year to avoid reaching the dreaded 'retinol plateau' that others have mentioned.

Anyhow back onto the product. I preferred the light texture of this to the night cream and that it didn't sit on my skin but sank in quite easily. Retinol does work! Even in the short amount of time that I used it my pores did look more refined and my skin tone overall fresher and smoother. However, with 3 types of silicones in the formulation that joy would be short-lived. By day 10 I was already breaking out, despite the gaps in between without use. Bottom line is: if your skin does not like silicones go with another brand that doesn't list 'Cyclopentasiloxane' or 'Dimethicone' in its ingredients list. Unfortunately at the time of using these (and many other silicone-containing products) I was never able to make the connection.

A subpar quality lip balm that I bought hoping it would be better than my petroleum infused ones. It wasn't.
Other reviews say it was better before the reformulation so I hope they'll take their customer's requests into consideration because while this balm smells nice and feels nice, it does almost nothing to heal lips.

If you want a lip balm that will heal dry, chapped, cracked lips then I suggest the NUXE Rêve de Miel which is what I use regularly. It's in a pot so I can't travel with it since my fingers aren't clean, however I found that using it morning and night is a perfect routine.

That being said, if you aren't looking for something deeply moisturizing and just want a tube balm for on the go, I do recommend this one because it stays put on my lips pretty well and the texture isn't overly thick or slippery. Also the packaging has a little locking mechanism so the cap won't come off in your purse and dirty up the balm.

Love this night cream. I have been using drugstore retinoids for about 5 years now, and I've been pretty pleased with the results. I have been known to sometimes go overboard and use a retinoid that's a little too strong for my face - or to be more precise, to use that strong retinoid two or three nights in a row. THAT does you no good, sweethearts. It is just irritating and a waste of good product (in my case, Paula's Choice).

So now I try to only use the strong stuff once a week or so, and regular (non-retinoid) heavy moisturizing to calm everything down 2 nights a week. The rest of the time I use this. It's perfect. It keeps the progress going, but isn't enough to be irritating. I do still use the big guns on my upper lip area, trying to get rid of incipient smoker's lines (I did quit smoking, but not soon enough!).

It is fragranced, but so is Neutrogena, which is my other favorite brand. RoC and Neutrogena are also both about the same price at the drugstore. I can use this all over my neck and chest as well, which is an area I think we often neglect. This one is a little easier to travel with, as it's in a tube (Neutrogena is in a glass bottle with a pump). The regular RoC night cream is also great, but if you're new to retinoids or have sensitive skin, this is a very good place to start.

I have used product consistently for over ten plus years along with PM formula. I will apply additional sunscreen over product when needed. (My face becomes a hot mess of "stuff" in the summer.) When I get concerned (paranoid) about my skin condition, I start snooping around counters at Nordstrom for skin products. I am stopped and told to continue with what I am using. Points: Stay consistent - miracles don't happen overnight. Use sunscreen.
