Crème -Revlon - ColorStay Whipped Crème Makeup

on 10/22/2017 9:00:00 PM

This past weekend, I had almost $40 in CVS Extra Bucks and decided I would stock up on my new HG foundation. This product started out as a definite Meh for me - but recently, I'd dug it out and gave it another try, to find that the color (Warm Golden) is the best match ever for me, and that it has durability throughout the business day. Not sure why I didn't like it initially, but this is now my go-to for most days. I find the gel texture to be easy to work with using fingers to apply and blend. I don't get much, if any, oxidation. It's subtly perfect - initially it can seem kind of blah, until you look at yourself in hour 5 or 6 and see how well everything is holding up.

So with Extra Bucks ready and waiting on my card, alas, I found that the Whipped Creme foundation is no more. I bought instead the liquid ColorStay for normal to dry skin, in Sand Beige (since Warm Golden is not offered in this product), and will give it a fair trial.

I found a site today that sells discontinued cosmetics, mostly drugstore brands, called Buy Me Beauty, and they have all shades of the Whipped Creme foundation in stock. I bought 4. (FYI I should mention that I was not a drugstore foundation girl until this product. I've tried so many, from so many different high-end brands, that I just have never been wild about or wanted to buy twice. It was just chance that I dug this out, probably left over from some business trip on which I forgot to bring foundation from home.)

Lipstick -Revlon - Super Lustrous in Wine with Everything

This is a soft red that I can wear everyday and it's one of my favorites, along with Rum Raisin, from the Super Lustrous line. Finally, my red lipstick! Will definitely buy this again!

Lips -Revlon - Colorburst Lacquer Balm (all shades)

on 10/22/2017 10:15:00 AM

I have the shade "Coquette", a bright, warm, Barbie type of pink, that actually goes on much more flattering than expected, when applied lightly. Not a color I would normally chose for myself, but glad I took a chance on, because I do reach for it often. This shade does have some silver shimmer in it, but it's not over the top at all. Love the peppermint flavor, and how hydrating this is! This along with Neutrogena's color balms, are my two faves at the drugstore, especially since I have chronically dry/chapped lips! Would repurchase!

Polishes -Revlon - Colorstay Gel Envy - Dealer's Choice (240)

on 10/21/2017 5:53:00 PM

Dealer's Choice is an aquamarine, shimmer polish. The shimmer is only visible close up.

The consistency is on a thick side, which means you can't apply too many coats, which isn't a problem as this polish is highly pigmented. You will only need 2 coats for a full opacity. I reckon the thickness is there to create that 'gel look' effect. I didn't enjoy applying this polish. My biggest frustration was that after I cleared the brush from the excess polish, by the time I'd bring the brush to my nail more polish would trickle down the stem, flooding the nail.

I ignored the fact that this polish includes base and used my own base coat, and I am so glad I did. This polish is a stainer. Due to the base coat I used my stains weren't too bad. I recommend you take great care removing this polish, try not to rub the polish into your skin around the nail (applying a little cuticle oil around your nails before you start the removal might help with this). I removed this polish before taking a shower, so by the time I came out of the shower most of the staining on and around the nails disappeared.

If you are looking for something similar, but better quality I recommend you try Essie Viva Antigua or Essie Naughty Nautical.

I was looking to try a new primer, I'd tried Revlon's PhotoReady Perfecting Primer, and liked it.
Base on reviews, this sounded like a new and improved version of that.
I have a very oily T-zone and use primer not as a base for foundation, but to mattify and blur pores and fine lines.
Sadly, this did none of these things. It's quite liquid-y and it applies much more like a lotion than a primer.
It's effect was also more like that of a lotion, there was no matte finish at all. My skin look as if I'd just slathered it with a moisturizer- left a kind of wet, dewy finish. Definitely not what I want in a primer.
Returned it the next day, and picked up NYX's Angel Veil in it's place.
