Polishes -Revlon -Matte Suede - Fire Fox

on 4/24/2018 12:21:00 PM

Fire Fox is still easy to find at low prices from eBay and Amazon, so I thought that I'd add my two cents here; it is a pink-tinged poppy red, with a satin [in between matte and creme] finish. A lovely suits-all-skintones, all-ages, all-seasons, all-occasions colour, which has a retro feel to it.

The first coat of the polish applies smoothly and covers the nail completely, but the formula is on the sheer side so it takes three coats to build the opaqueness fully, as it's a curious mix of a satin and a jelly - if you have longer nails, then there will still be a hint of vnl. The formula dries quickly to a smooth finish, I don't mind going to three coats. The shade doesn't stain my nails [I always use a basecoat though], and the polish wears as well as pricier brands like Nails inc, OPI , and Essie, which is a huge plus.

Eyeliner -Revlon -ColorStay Exactify Liquid Liner

I am trying to improve my skills with eye makeup and was excited to try this. I am generally a big fan of Revlon products for their quality and price point. I bought in the mulberry shade, which is a lovely purplish-brown. I thought the little wheel applicator was pretty easy to use. I apply eyeliner directly above my upper lashes and below my lower lashes, not actually on the eyelid rims. This makes a very thin, precise line, which may not be best for me since I am older and a softer look is better. However, I can use a pencil to add some smudginess, so that is doable. When I wore it for a 12 hour shift, however, I noticed that it flaked off a bit in a few spots, which looked weird. I will keep trying this out, but not sure if I would repurchase.

Foundations -Revlon -Youth fx

Oh my, what a disappointment. This one is all hype and marketing. There is certainly no 'blur' effect - it's a plain old heavy BB cream. I found it too heavy, it had a greyish undertone, and it did not prevent the oil coming through either. I had to blot and blot. Not really a quality product. Certainly nothing special about it and no 'pretty' finish. But they got me with the 'blur' hook and now I'm stuck with a bad product that I don't even like using when I'm working from home and only the postman sees me! How to use it up? My discard pile of disappointing foundations for oily faces grows and grows...

Mascara -Revlon -Ultimate All-In-One Mascara

on 4/23/2018 3:16:00 PM

By far the worst mascara I’ve tried. I threw it away after one use. For starters, the brush is incredibly small. There is no way to get all your lashes in one swipe, so you need multiple swipes and naturally some areas get more mascara than others when you do that, creating major clumping. Secondly, the bristles are spaced far from each other which means even if the wand was longer, you’re still going to get spider eyes. Thirdly, this mascara will not hold a curl whatsoever due to how thick and clumpy it is. I ended up using my nails to scrape off the excess so I didn’t look worse for wear at work. Overall, there is nothing redeeming about this mascara.

Lips -Revlon -Revlon Kiss Plumping Lip Creme

The plumping claim pulled me in (even though I should know better). While these don't plump any more than your average gloss or liquid lip, I was pleasantly surprised. I picked up Barely Blush (MLBB) & Almond Suede (a brownish pink).
The color is opaque, but with a high shine. They're very glossy, but not at all sticky or heavy.
It has a lot of slip, almost too much (more working with a liquid than a creme), and application can get messy. The slanted plastic applicator isn't useful at all, the tip of the finger works better at evening it out.
There is a slight cooling sensation upon application, but any plumping effect really comes from the glossiness of the product, IMO. These remind me a bit of NYX Butter glosses, only more slick. These feel like they might have moisturizing effect.

There is not much lasting power though; with all that slip, it kind of slips right off. That doesn't bother me too much as I'm a frequent applier of any lip product I happen to be wearing.
