Treatments (Face) -Paula's Choice -RESIST BHA 9 Treatment

on 10/16/2018 11:05:00 PM

First, about me. I have large pores, oily and textured skin. Sun damaged, aging skin. I'm using Retin A but my skin is sensitive and even at its lowest dose, it's too irritating for around my nose, mouth and chin. I use Retin A on the perimeter of the my face and BHA on the middle. I use the 2% extra strength PC serum during the day.

I bought this a few years ago now and didn't really see much benefit so it's been sitting in my cupboard ever since. I recently started using a magnifying mirror, though, and nothing like doing this to really show you how big your pores are. I put this on one night, just to see if I was wrong, and in the magnifying mirror the next morning my pores were literally white and shrunk. I've used it now for a week and I got flakey so I'm using it every second night now. It works and now I've stocked up.

The texture feels like pure glycerin to me, it's quite moisturizing and only slightly irritating. As any strong acid exfoliant would be it is a little irritating if I use it every night. It's far too moisturizing to use during the day.

I love PC BHA, it's the only chemical exfoliant my skin can really tolerate. I don't love the huge price boost the products have seen in the last few years but nothing works like this does. Deciem is a joke, their BHA did nothing for my skin, not one thing. Anything else that sort of works is full of alcohol. I do wish this stuff was affordable again because right now, it's just not.

Lips -Paula's Choice -Paula's choice lipscreen SPF 50

In some ways this is a perfect lip balm. It's emollient but not greasy. It has a very high SPF. It's double the price of most lip balms but it is far better.
However, it didn't quite do it for me. I have extra dry lips particularly in the winter and I keep having to reapply this product if I take a sip of water or have a bite to eat. Jack black's 25 SPF balm is far more effective and moisturzing for dry lips.

Cleansers -Paula's Choice -RESIST Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser

on 10/14/2018 6:24:00 PM

I really wanted to like this product.

I have combination skin, very acne prone, very sensitive. I go pretty light on makeup during the day, with just a little bit of Clinique Stay Matte liquid foundation and some blush, mascara, eye liner, etc. This cleanser did a fabulous job at removing everything in one wash. However, it also really dried out my skin to the point where it was becoming uncomfortable. Areas around where I was breaking out (e.g., chin and jaw area) also looked very dry and worse than usual (and I'm not using any prescription acne treatment.)

I didn't hate this cleanser. But I certainly didn't love it either. I'm going back to Paula's Choice Moisture Boost Cleanser until I can find my HG product!!

Treatments (Face) -Paula's Choice -Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

I've been using this every night for 2 weeks and yuk!! My super oily skin is now covered in bumps and spots (I'm 53 and only break out occasionally) I also seem far more oily, my foundation is sliding off after a couple of hours.
To be honest, I'd like to give a recommendation to all you young 'oilies' out there - stop wasting your money! I've spent the last 38 years and probably thousands of pounds on products for oily skin that just don't work. The only thing that ever had an effect was a contraceptive pill containing an anti-androgen which GPs in the UK won't prescribe over the age of 40, so here I am again clutching at straws, buying products that I know won't work (desperation :/)
Oily skin is down to genetics and hormones - so......hormonal preparations are the only things that work to stem the flow of oil from the inside - NOTHING you put on your skin will stop the oil from spewing out, cosmetic products may absorb or dry the oil on the surface to some degree but they cause their own problems!

Treatments (Face) -Paula's Choice -RESIST Daily Pore-Refining Treatment 2% BHA

I got a travel size version of this. Compared to the famous liquid BHA - this one is gentler and more elegant. The liquid is a little rough. If you have more sensitive skin, I would recommend this BHA from PC. It is slightly pricier, at $33 for 3 oz vs $29 for 4 oz.
