Liquid -NARS -Sheer Glow Foundation

on 12/14/2017 6:11:00 AM

I decided to buy this foundation after researching non-comedogenic high-end alternatives after using Revlon Colorstay pretty much religiously for about two years. The main issue I had with Revlon was that I'm very yellow and it's hard to find a match in their range, but I also loved the finish of it and it did not seem to break me out. Now as for Nars, I loved loved loved the colour match in light 6 Ceylan, it basically was the exact shade of my skin. Sadly, that was pretty much the only thing I liked about it. Usually I stay away from primers as they tend to break me out, and with the colorstay on its own I managed just fine for everyday wear. This, on the other hand, just goes on very patchy and stays on top of my skin in an odd way, so for example I can see my pores possibly even more than without foundation on and even though I do not really struggle with redness, it just leaves any redness uncovered somehow. I just can't seem to push it in so that it blends into my skin and it ends up looking super cakey once I set it. I've tried just fingers but that was too streaky, I've tried just a beauty blender sponge but it used up so much product and did not cover, and then I mixed the two methods ie applied mostly with fingers and used sponge to blend in by tapping but that left me patchy... This is all mostly an issue with my T-zone, and on the sides of my face where the skin is drier it looks fine, but nothing special. All in all I'm off to try out other high-end non-comedogenic yellow-based foundations because this has sadly not worked for me at all despite all the great reviews!

Masks -NARS -Aqua Gel Luminous Mask

on 12/14/2017 3:06:00 AM

I use this less as a mask and more as a "pre-moisturizer". Toners just don't to do much for me, so I go the granny-who-is-an-adorable-living-time-capsule route and just use various flower waters... rose, neroli, or lavender, and sometimes witch hazel. But I do find I need a little something to go under proper moisturizer and face oil, and this fits the bill.

When you first squeeze it out of the tube, it looks thin (even kind of watery), and translucent, not very promising. But something happens when it goes on... it's not full of moisture but it nicely quenches the thirst my skin so often feels. It's not thick or plumping but somehow skin feels so much smoother and fine-textured after this goes on. It's not cushiony but soothes and comforts skin that is hot and bothered. It feels cooling even when I haven't put it in the fridge. Going by that and a slight tingling feeling I often feel on application, I would be tempted to say that one of the ingredients is alcohol. But I've tried other products that include alcohol before, and with very little exception, they wreck my skin... I actually break out when my skin is too DRY, I think it has something to do with the barrier being damaged. That's not what happens here.

It's a great product and a little goes a long way... I use an amount that's literally the size of a pea, and it's enough to brighten and refresh the whole face (I don't think I've seen any benefits from using any more... if anything, it tends to blunt the effect). I use it morning and evening, alone in summer (when the weather is hot and humid and my skin soaks up water from the air anyway), and during the rest of the year I layer it under moisturizer and face oils. Not necessarily every day, because I am terrible about maintaining a consistent routine, and also because I'm trying to economize because of how darn expensive this is, but this does tend to be the first thing I reach for whenever my skin feels dull and ready for a pick-me-up. On that count, it always delivers.

Concealers -NARS -Radiant Creamy Concealer

I decided to re-write an old review because I've changed my mind about this completely. I loved it when I first got it, then after wear, watching my undertones more and including a more dewy foundation I just can't get on with it.

The formula is quite nice. It is very creamy, incredibly easy to blend and isn't at all flat- it really does look radiant. I'd say for a concealer it has medium coverage, which is just not enough for my particular brand of crazy dark circles. The lightest shade (chantilly) is also too yellow for my liking and other more neutral options are too dark. I'd more class it as a cool yellow though, so you more yellow toned cool peeps might love the shade. Personally though I need something like a cool neutral.

My main problem with this is the creasing. DEAR GODS THE CREASING. I've tried my newer foundation without this and had no problems at all, but with this I crease like absolute crazy. I have tried every method to work with the formula but I just can't. Powder first, Powder then primer, Powder after, Powder sacrifices to the great lord satan- just nothing works. I have large-ish round eyes so I have a small amount of deep natural lines under my eyes which have been there since childhood, i'm not sure if it would be as bad with fine lines caused by age but it might be something to take into account.

All in all, this just isn't worth the money for me any more.

Lipstick -NARS -Audacious Lipstick - Barbara

on 12/12/2017 1:26:00 PM

Executive summary: this color is beautiful, this formula is the pits.

This color is beautiful: I am a very fair woman and this is basically the color of my lips when I'm having a very pale day. It's not my lips but better, it's just my lip color in lipstick format. So basically it is the end all be all nude lip for me. It's a sandy pink with a dash of yellow, and it's transparent enough that a lip liner can really be fun to play with here. Today I wore it with MAC's Enoki and I am having a lovely trippy time remembering a mauve combo I wore at Estée Lauder in the early aughts. It's so gorgeous.

This formula is the pits: I am completely in the minority here, I know, but this is a wretched formula. The colors are so gorgeous though that I finally caved on Barbara (and might do with Shirley, too). It can give me "fadey" lip, and kind of a dry crusty looking lip if I don't baby sit it and if I go sans liner, it isn't lasting for longer than an hour. It feels gorgeous going on, but then it's done. But again I feel like I am so in the minority on this opinion that if you're on the fence, go try it. This color is so so fetching.

Eye Shadow -NARS -Narcissist Eyeshadow Pallette

on 12/11/2017 7:37:00 AM

I saw this on the Sephora web site and decided to try it. This is another warm toned pallette, that has primarily glitter/sparkly shadows, which makes it very hard to do am eyeshadow look using this alone. I like some of the pink and red shades, but 2 of the colors are basically glitter, and only 4 are matte. I am going to use it during the holidays, but I do no see this as being something I would use very often. I really should have returned it.
