Maybelline New York

The Maybelline Company was created by a 19-year-old entrepreneur named Tom Lyle Williams in 1915. Williams noticed his older sister Mabel applying a mixture of Vaseline and coal dust to her eyelashes to give them a darker, fuller look. He adapted it with a chemistry set and produced a product sold locally called lash-in-brow-line. Williams renamed his eye beautifier Maybelline, in honor of his sister Mabel, who gave him the idea. In 1917 the company produced Maybelline Cake Mascara, ""the first modern eye cosmetic for everyday use"" and Ultra Lash in the 1960s, which was the first mass-market automatic

Brows -Maybelline New York -Brow Precise fiber volumizer

on 1/20/2019 5:09:00 PM

I don't have the world's thinnest or thickest brows, but 8 years ago my brows had VOLUME. I got this product though because I want to make them look more volumized. I don't want insta-brows or anything too perfected, I just want my brows to look fuller, even if they look messy because I already have a bit of shape to them. IME, if your brows already have a decent shape or well defined shape, you don't need to do that much to them for them to look good, like this product.

PROS: It looks really natural. Even though it is a fiber product, it looks more like a brow tint. Whatever fibers are present, you can't see them one bit. I also think it's one of the few products that I think look better the more you build it up, instead of looking like makeup or fake. It also is extremely long wearing - I've had this on for well over 24 hours (yes, I slept in it) and it looks exactly the same. No crumble, smear off, nothing. It's not very difficult to remove either. And the brush also doesn't pick up tons of product or need to be wiped off or create clumps or any weirdness. It looks like nothing special, just some design with dinky ass short bristles, but it truly works well.

CONS: The first time I used it, I was ready to return it. The only reason I didn't was because Walmart didn't have the shade down and I wasn't in the mood to go to a ton of stores, so I thought I'd give the product a try and see if it was good, even though the color was off. I have this in dark brown and although I have dark brown hair, it's not black. I have natural highlights in my hair and brow hair too from when you're a child that makes them more dimensional looking without being obvious. This is why I often go for dark brown of softer blacks (if I had to choose black) when using mascara products, they are not stark or harsh looking compared to black. The dark brown in this fiber mascara might as well be black and yes, it comes off as stark or unnatural. The first moment I applied it, it's like "what have I done?" because it appeared kind of "inky" too, like just ink like or not matte though. It dries down a bit less shiny after, but you can kind of tell I'm wearing this, even though it is natural looking in the sense that you can't really directly see it.

OVERALL: This product is really a 4 or 4.5 to me but I'm giving it a 5 because of everything combined. It's cheap, it's easy to use (just short swipes and build it up), it looks natural, and it stays on forever. I'll use this tube up and drop down to the medium brown shade because the dark brown is really a soft-er black is "woah" on me right now, so I'm trying to go in with a lighter hand.

Mascara -Maybelline New York -SNAPSCARA Washable Mascara

on 1/19/2019 3:15:00 PM

I thought this was supposed to be a tubing mascara, which is the only reason I tried it. Tubing mascaras to me = minimal (or no?) smudging or flaking. Maybelline Snapscara in Pitch Black flakes *horribly* on me. I'm on Day 5 or 6 of daily wear (I wanted to give it at least a few tries after the first day) and this has happened every day. I haven't written a product review in years, but I just stopped everything I was doing right now to write this one -- because I am so frustrated with this product. The flaking starts in the morning and continues throughout the day. TONS of flakes under both eyes.

I added a star because the mascara applies fairly easily. It does clump, but not nearly as badly as some others, and it's wet enough that the existing clumps are pretty easy to correct.

I wasn't a fan of the packaging, since I find square mascara tubes are easy to drop.

Needless to say, I will not be repurchasing. =)

Brows -Maybelline New York -Brow Precise Micro Pencil

on 1/19/2019 3:14:00 PM

I purchased this product in Soft Brown after having tried pretty much everything else on the market in the form of a fine brow liner. I second the reviewer who compared this product with Clinique’s Superfine Liner for Brows, that was my ultimate HG product for defining the lower part of my brows but it is no longer available where I currently live.
This product is identical to Clinique’s in terms of shape and thinness, as well as with regard to the natural tone of the Soft Brown shade. The only advantage Clinique had was the lightest shade which was Light Brown from what I recall, a very natural light brown with gray ash undertones with a hint of light olive, perfect for blondes and light, ash-toned brown haired ladies (and gents). That shade is something I personally haven’t found replicated by any other brand, unfortunately the product is unavailable to me, I hope it was not discontinued.
This Maybelline pencil has the advantage of having a great spoolie at one end and, in contrast to the Clinique one, it can be twisted upwards and downwards as any usual twist pencil/wand. The Clinique one could not be twisted back once twisted up (how... twisted was that?!)
The pencil is beautiful, natural, it doesn’t seem too creamy to me, blends beautifully with my brow hairs (thick and coarse, skin showing through in some spots), the product stick inside is so thin that it doesn’t need sharpening as it has a very fine tip, perfect for delineating or doing fine strokes. As for the spoolie, i find it great as the bristles are much shorter than others’ and reach all the way to the skin, blending the product among the brow hairs.
To the reviewers who complained that the product gets blended out by using the spoolie, I suggest a mild powdering before and after applying it, prior to brushing through. It makes a big difference from the typical powderless application.
My only complaint is that it does not last too long as the stick is relatively small and the product is indeed soft, thus it gets finished quite fast (this isn’t a hard brow pencil at all).

Mascara -Maybelline New York -Great Lash Lots of Lashes

on 1/19/2019 1:03:00 PM

This is the best of the "Great Lash" mascaras, both in formula and brush style (IMO). This gives me really long, defined, super black lashes. The angled rubber bristled brush allows you to easily get the corner lashes, and is great for coating bottom lashes too. No flaking or smudging, and is not difficult to remove at night. Price is fantastic at $4.50. I prefer Maybelline mascaras in general, and this is one of their best! Will def. repurchase!

Eye Shadow -Maybelline New York -Stylish Smokes in Natural Smokes

on 1/19/2019 10:30:00 AM

This is one of the better pigmented quads I have tried in Maybelline's lineup. Excellent everyday neutrals, that can be applied lightly for a softer/natural look, or applied heavily to create a more dramatic/smokey eye. I usually stick to the lighter 3 shades for my lids, and just use the darkest brown to fill in my brows, using an angled brush. So, this is kind of a 2 in 1 product for me! The shimmer is subtle versus very glittery, but not chalky like some totally matte shades can be. These apply smoothly, and the color wears a very long time. Would repurchase!
